  1. You guys could have also just as easily ignored it entirely. Nobody was forcing people to read/post in there.

  2. i would love it if we could get some general posting guidelines and ground rules for what is and isn't acceptable when posting here, and what will get us banned/suspended. i am 100% serious and not trying to be disrespectful in the least, but lately i've become scared to even post in threads for fear of an arbitrary ban for making an 'off topic' post. part of what i love about this place is that i can have a great time posting with people whose e-company i truly enjoy, and as of late i feel like that is being derailed with no reasoning other than 'i said so' or 'so and so with post count of 20 doesn't like that cat gif you posted in their blink thread'. a lot of the thread locking and anguish could be mitigated by a sticky with some community rules for posting.

  3. Seems like Dave nailed it. From what I saw those thread derailments weren't particularly funny, it was just noise. The argument about it being good, clean fun works if everyone is in agreement. I could give a fuck about Blink 182 but those who do deserve a place to talk about it. Even if all they do is bitch incessantly about Michael's being sold out of LP frames. You guys knew you were trolling them, which is fine, but you can't get all sanctimonious when you get called out for it. I don't really know what was going on in there, but it seemed silly. If everyone one was in on it, then I've my point is moot.

  4. This is my issue. I get that people think the Blink-182 thread is dumb, or the Cartel thread was pointless, but what excuse do people have for making it worse? There are plenty of threads for people to post GIFs and laugh among themselves, so let's keep it there. Too many threads have been derailed lately - and I've talked to several members who have visited a lot less lately because of it. I know I have too because when I see a thread bumped repeatedly I just assume it's the same five people posting a 'funny' image over and over again.

A couple months ago my girlfriend of 8 years and I found out she was unexpectedly 5 months pregnant, so I will be starting on the journey of fatherhood in September. I've never seen one but sorry if a thread exists for this already. I just figured I'd make a catch all thread to talk about parenting stuff. I'm the first of my friends to have a baby so it's tough not having another new/contemporary parent to talk to about stuff. I'd be particularly interested in hearing about invaluable resources or resources I might not know about concerning raising a kid. The old lady and I are pretty excited. Even though we weren't expecting a baby at the moment, we had agreed we would have kids in the future. It's just a little nerve wracking to feel so unprepared all of the time.

  7. So in honor of my 1,000th post (this very one) I am giving away a record (thanks to captainaldous who did this recently and gave me the idea). I recently won a free LP from a contest on here and thought I'd pay back the favor. The album will be of the Punk Rock variety, so if that genre doesn't interest you then please dodn't post as I'd like to give this to someone who will listen to it. Also I will pay for the shipping. Here are the rules to enter: You must have over 250 posts (sorry newcomers, stick around and you'll get there). Tell me about the best concert you've ever been to and why it was the best. Tell me your favorite album that you own. And lastly tell me what your first vinyl purchase was and when you first started collecting. I will pick a winner at random at 5PM CST on Friday 6/5/14 (tomorrow). Good luck everyone

  8. Let's do this. This thread is needed. Post, seriously, what some guidelines and rules should be. Some have been posted so far and they're good. I will get it all together to get one major one to post and be official. May as well come together as a community on this matter.

  9. How about this too: If you are a newer member of the board don't post nothing but gifs over and over in threads. If you aren't a known member here then you will be seen as a troll. There are a couple of folks currently trying to win points with the cool kids by doing this and it's downright annoying. Jokes are always welcome. Annoying the piss out of everyone repeatedly is not. Also: Don't be stupid. Instaban: Making any post crying about a corner ding. Points: Posting in the running thread. (We need more members)

  10. Not to be a dick (guess there's no way this question can be asked without coming off as one), but why exactly don't you just ban the individual users derailing the blink thread? There was actually some decent discussion happening occasionally, but when the idiots came in you guys just locked the thread (which is what they wanted you to do. They had no interest in the releases and just wanted to mess with people who had what they considered to be juvenile music tastes, so, congratulations, they won). You punish users using the boards correctly and the jackasses who caused the issues laugh and move on. Point being, the releases are popular enough that the discussion really shouldn't take place in a generic Hot Topic thread, as it'll probably get overrun with Blink posts. I don't see why you guys have to lock a thread instead of warning and banning problem posters. Some of them even had pretty decent feedback ratings so I think they would've taken the threat of a ban pretty seriously if they knew they'd have to start from square one again. I know I would, and my feedback rating is tiny. Apologies for being (somewhat) off topic, but it'd sure be nice to know exactly what the rationale is there.

  13. I remember in the summer of '97 and '98 gas dipped to 65 cents a gallon. We road tripped all over the damn place and I only worked for about $6/hr a few days a week. I never felt broke. I've often lamented that with minimum wage not coming close to the rate of inflation combined with the insane rise in gas prices that there is a whole generation that are missing out on a great American rite of passage. Road tripping, seeing this country or just getting out beyond the confines of your home area should be essential. In fact, they breed a curiosity and adventurous side that pays dividends in experience. I cringe to think of how so many fewer kids out there are getting these experiences. It's sad to me.

  14. 1) 90% of the people here are annoying as hell and post cat gifs all the fucking time thinking it is funny/cute/witty and I dont consider them my friends or part of my community. 2) I dont even go in the threads, but to try and say what is and isnt allowed on the internet based on what you are offended by is stupid. This isnt 'cat parades perfect board' and it involves a lot more than just you. 3) I come here for baseball/wrestling/and the occasional update on a pre-order I care about and I dont click on the shit that annoys me/makes me mad.

  17. it irritates me that when a female brings up that something is mildly offensive, or objectifies woman in a way that makes her uncomfortable, a good portion of the time she gets dismissed because men don't want to deal with that 'feminism' crap.

  18. Yeah this is exactly how I feel. I don't care for the Blink threads, but I don't want the same thing happening in a thread I care about. If you like Blink and want them all on your wall, you should have somewhere to talk about it.

  19. I killed it. If it's going to get derailed like this one may again, just going to be deleted. And warnings and bans/suspensions will be issued regardless. If it has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, don't post. This is not 4Chan.

  20. I don't think I once saw a mod say "NO MORE FUCKING BLINK 182 THREADS". So there are what, like 2 more of these splatter records coming out? Who is to say you can't make a "PO SOON Blink 182 Greatest Hits" thread? These catch all threads always wind up being the biggest cluster fucks because there is too much going on. So even the catch all thread for just Blink 182 got out of hand because none of the casual new members of the board could keep up with what was going on, then the same stupid questions get asked, then the veteran board members get irritated/bored and start spamming the thread with dumb shit.

  22. Hello everyone. I decided a few months back to start my own label, and I posted some general information about it over in the everything else board. I've seen other cassette pre-order information listed in here, and I just wanted to do that with the releases I'm putting out as well. The hope is to build this one step at a time to then get to vinyl releases, instead of jumping in to an outrageous initial investment. I already have plans moving forward with over 10 different artists/releases, and I currently have the first three available to stream / digital download / pre-order. The first three are only $5 a piece. Tapes should arrive by June 30th, and will be shipped out immediately. Stream all releases here. Pre-order all releases here. More info over on our facebook page. Things will be even more legit soon over at www.fleshandbone-records.com First three releases are as follows: Sky Flying By - Can You Say It With One Word? Track Listing: 1. Welcome 2. Reliving 3. Endearing 4. Irreplaceable 5. The Long Way Around First pressing: /50 Black/Silver Swirl Cassettes Each cassette will include: Digital download card J-Card insert in clear case 1 8 page zine with song explanations 1 Flesh and Bone Records sticker Other Minds - Close Enough Track Listing: 1. Go Home 2. Only Thoughts 3. "Forget It" 4. Fall 5. Ravine 6. Sydney First pressing: /25 Transparent Blue/Pink Swirl Cassettes Each cassette will include: Digital download card Front/Back full color insert 1 bird feather 1 Flesh and Bone Records sticker Wolves&Wolves&Wolves&Wolves - Scorched Earth Track Listing: 1. 23. You should up vote it someone's downvotes me so I'm -2 now lol.And it's hard to tell with this one. It's the first time on vinyl and I think the black/grey will look nice for those who like "cool splatter" between that and flippers expect it to sell fast but I think as long as you try by the morning of you'll be ok. Myself I'll wait up. I missed s/t but I wasn't on here and didn't know there was a series, I just happened to look at the site when TOYPAJ came out, so happy that's being repressed. Good luck I hope you have no issues finding them.

  25. Nice. I know he's been wanting to contribute to this for a while now. Glad to see him finally win one of these things. Also, just to throw this out there: sometimes I have a life and obligations outside of VC, or I'm just forgetful, and I won't have the first post completely updated with entrants. I made the "entry list" to help out whoever does the drawing, but they should by no means rely on it, 100%. I'm hoping they add any additional members that I neglected to put on said list. Just food for thought.

  26. It was an honest question! When I am on a list for let's say a preorder for a video game I don't fret about when it's going to be in stock. I know they will let me know when it's time to come give them my money for the product.

  29. I'll start out by saying I, even though that user made a stupid post about my daughter and I, added fuel to the fire. I haven't been into the vinyl game long, but I REALLY like this community. Even as a dude in his 30s with a career, a hot wife, a child, the ability to waste stupid amounts of money on vinyl, and growing debt, I did something I'm embarrassed about. In order to be internet cool, I started trolling the tolls in the Blink thread. It was dumb and pretty much uncalled for. I began recycling what others have been saying/doing for a long time; I kept it going. I became a part of the problem to the people who legitimately wanted to participate in the Blink thread. That wasn't/isn't cool. However, with all that said, I feel there are members here (who have been here longer than I have) who are acting way too entitled; some of these are the same people I was copying in the Blink thread. (I still don't know where blonk came from). Yes, you may have a lot of posts, be known on the forums for lolz and coolz, but this doesn't mean you get special treatment. What you want it life doesn't always happen. Why should it be like that for you on a free message board? Yes, people are stupid; go look at the "which turntable should i getz" on r/vinyl, or watch a non-internet savvy relative try to use Facebook. We don't have to be the stupid police. If people are trolling, report them. I vow not to be a jerk anymore, even to people like Enyfour5. He's a troll. However, a lot of us are. Their stupid question is just as stupid as me pursuing the shocker discussion in the Blink thread. Let's just be nice. That's my spill and apology. Rule: Stop trolling the trolls; just report them. Don't be a part of the problem. P.S. Please don't turn this awsome community into r/vinyl. We get it: you're cool and have a lot of posts and people know you by name. But. Please. Don't. Turn. This. Into. A. Jerkfest.

  30. i think it's important to realize that none of us are without blame for everything that's transpired here. we cannot change what punishments were previously dealt or how things were handled BUT this is to help us move forward and determine what is appropriate for the future. once the rules are in place, everyone will be dealt with fairly and accordingly.

  31. I'm a noob and I've gotten along with everyone pretty well. I haven't had anyone be rude to me. I try and stay polite with everyone and search a whole thread before asking a question to see if it has been answered. I think maybe because I'm new, I don't want to step on anyone's toes? But I can see how posting rules and guidelines could be helpful for the newbies.

  38. I can't remember when we stopped doing the instant mp3 download with pre-orders. It's been a while though. It just didn't mesh with the way we were doing the press campaigns and the song premieres and whatnot. For example, we still have at least two more new Dikembe tracks to debut within the next month. Kinda tough to build momentum / excitement with stuff like that if you've already released the album digitally. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we've been releasing the digital at least a couple weeks earlier than the official release date. I can tell you this: I'm relatively confident that we'll have the Mediumship vinyl before Dikembe leaves for tour on July 11th. No promises, of course, but things are looking good. In that case, pre-orders will most definitely start shipping early, and I'm digital download codes will probably go out at the same time.

  42. Yeah, cause after six years of Will and I losing money and taking zero dollars from this label, we finally decided that an extra $500 a month is going to tip the scales in our favor! Nevermind the fact that the cost of production, manufacturing and materials has continued to rise each year, yet we've kept the price of our LPs at $12 (plus $4 flat rate shipping) since Tiny Engines' inception. Nevermind that we always go the extra mile with cool packaging (read about it!) or that our release schedule is the busiest it has ever been. Here's a little secret about 90% of independent labels: they don't make money. The people who run them don't make money. If they're lucky, they're barely breaking even and future releases are hanging by a thread of uncertainty. IF THEY'RE LUCKY! I say all this not as a rant, but just as a friendly reminder that if you've ever bought a record from an independent label or band, your money isn't lining anyone's proverbial pockets. No, you're helping to keep these labels alive, which is an awesome thing. We're blessed to have worked with awesome outfits like The Hotelier, Dikembe, Restorations and Tigers Jaw because those bands keep us afloat and allow us to release awesome records from other smaller, not-as-well-known-but-equally-awesome groups like Cayetana, It Looks Sad, Little Big League, Somos and so on and so forth. Just remember this: if an independent label raises its prices by a couple bucks, it's probably because they need to. Vinyl is expensive because it's expensive to manufacture. Also, we're talking about $14. This is not an insane price for an LP.
