  1. I never understood why "quitting buying" necessarily has to mean "selling my entire collection." How about just show some restraint and pull back for a while? Just my two cents.

    CONFESSIONS

posted this on Facebook earlier. I know I don't post much around here anymore, but this is as much a confession as any, right? I'm going to go ahead and put this out there in a public manner after countless years of private deliberation and thought and questioning - and if you feel the need to cut off ties with me, you are more than welcome to, though, I would prefer to retain the friendship of all of you: I am pangender. This has raised questions to a few that I have spoken privately to about this, though to most who know me in a closer way, this shouldn't be a surprise at all. What is pangender? Most equate it to the trans category of which this is not. In short, pangender is the eschewing largely of identification with either of the two hard binary genders. I've never since I've been able to re-collect things from childhood been comfortable fully as a male, but at the same time, have never had a desire to identify as female, despite largely taking influence and queues from feminine sources. Consequently, I've always felt comfortable somewhere in the middle. Biologically, I am still a male, of course - but 'gender' and 'sex' are two separate things. The relationship I've been in for quite some time is still very much intact and this is not a sexual thing at all - just a coming to terms with who I am and that I cannot subscribe to a hard binary gender code now, nor have I ever been able to (maybe it started when I found, at the age of 4, that out of the entire cast of the 60's Batman series, Julie Newmar was the one I idolized the most). In reality, this changes very little, if nothing at all, in how I view my friendships and relationships with people. My only request is that those of you are respectful enough to do so, please refer to me in terms of "they", "their", "them", etc. I understand how this adjustment will likely take years as I've spent my life going by "he", "him", etc, despite my near constant discomfort with it (I took on the spelling "Kriss" in early high school due to distaste for the more male derived "Christopher" I was given at birth). This has been fairly difficult for me to write out, partially because it's so very public and because there's a part of me that's genuinely worried that there will be some who will now view me as some kind of freak. I certainly hope that's not the case, though I except that as it comes in the event that it does. This has been a source of struggle, in particular, over the last several weeks, as I've come to realize that I need to embrace and accept this after so long trying to ignore it - for those of you whom I've been short or testy with, I apologize. Now you know why. Thanks for reading, and thanks for being rad!

  3. It's common with shipping records. And when you are shipping a high number of packages, that small percentage of packages that gets damaged seems larger. Our mail is taken directly to the local hub, which means we are actually skipping the whole first step in the USPS chain. There are even fewer hands moving packages since we aren't taking it to the local post office, which then loads it into a truck and ships to the hub. We are on a first name basis with the postal workers on the dock, they like us, they know what we do, and they don't man handle our packages.

  6. is it because they dont want to be seen as greedy? LIke every FS thread has "dont ask me how much", "questions of how much will not be replied to". I mean if you want to sell it and someone wants to know your price, whats the problem there? at first i thought it was that sellers didnt want to sell themselves short (i.e. asking for $50 when someone might be prepared to pay $60), but almost everyone has a price in mind that they would sell something for. why are people so against telling you that price?

  11. last week i stepped on a scale for the first time in about 6-8 months, which was right around the same time i really got back into buying vinyl. no joke, i've dropped 40 pounds, and it's definitely not from exercising more or juicing or anything like that. it's just because i'd rather spend my money on vinyl than food. actually now that i think about it, that kind of sounds like something a heroin addict would say so maybe you're making the right choice

    SECULAR HAZE'S FINAL GIVEAWAY

SECULAR HAZE’S FINAL GIVEAWAY Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Tonight is the One Year Anniversary of this thread, and to commemorate it I've decided to do one final giveaway. This past year has been a great experience for me. I have met some outstanding members that I can now call friends, and I've also had the opportunity to explore some new genres of music that came as recommendations from others. I will deeply miss hosting this thread and I hope that others will continue paying it forward, as they have been doing lately. This final giveaway serves as a tribute to the community as a collective. One lucky member will win the following package: (2) Records of your choice from any online store (no price limit) (1) iTunes gift card or Barnes & Noble gift card (10) Brand New 12” Polybags (5) Brand New 7” Polybags (1) Box of popcorn (to consume while you watch your favorite threads spiral out of control) (1) Giant bag of Skittles or Starburst TO ENTER, post the following information: (2) Records of your choice (description and link) Your choice of iTunes or Barnes & Noble Your choice of Skittles or Starburst The winning member will be selected at random on the night of Friday, April 11. Good luck to everyone that participates. I’d also like to give a tip of the hat to a very integral member of our community that doesn’t get enough credit for the hard work that he puts in behind the scenes. I’d like to recognize the efforts of our Administrator, jhulud. For your dedication and service to the community, I award you this: As soon as it goes up for sale, consider it ordered!

I was starving and had: spaghetti cream cheese spices 1 jar of Big Lots brand meat-sauce 2 cans of chicken in water 1 ass-old bag of Parmesan cheese Amazing what happens when you throw stuff together from the bottom of the barrel.

  24. what's more annoying is the "check my list and send me offers" messages... bad enough I need to price your records out for you, but then i have to send a bunch of messages to find out you are actually willing to sell 5 records out of your list of 500 and then I have to argue about a price...
    1 point
  25. It's because whatever you offer they want to increase that amount by a good margin It's bullshit

  26. Probably the easiest $1000 a person can make, sucks for people who actually would have appreciated the tests.

  27. Maybe you've just gone a little overboard lately. We've all done it/continue to do it. Doesn't mean you need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Budget your money, have a set amount set aside for records. That will force you to think about what you are doing and buy only the albums you REALLY want while not adversely affecting your life in other ways. You don't need to quit and sell off your entire collection unless you really just don't want to own or collect records anymore.

  28. I like what everyone is saying here. If you have records that are important to you, records you enjoy and have been stoked to have in your possession, why get rid of them? Sure, stop buying records the minute they come out, revisit it when you feel like you can find prices you can justify.....or just do a little bit better digging, you can always find deals everywhere, online or in store. There is a pretty good percentage of my collection at this point that I never would have dreamed I would find at the price that I did because I was patient / committed to the dig.

  46. How is that not a reasonable answer? It's a perfect comparison. Yes, 99% of the time the label owns the rights to the record and has complete control over it. That doesn't make it right. In my experience, the point of reissues is to have music you love, from a band you love, on a format you love. If you really love the band and the album, wouldn't you want to have some contact with the band instead of just going behind their back and doing it? It is their art regardless of who "owns" it and I would reckon most artists would like to have some input on how their art is represented. The only reason you'd not try and get in touch with the band is because you simply don't care and are just reissuing the album because you know it'll sell copies, which is exactly what SRC is doing. So yes, it is fucking shady. It's essentially an authorized bootleg. It's amazing that it's such a non issue for most of you guys.
