  2. I can be the same way for first listens of things I'm really excited for like this album. That's why I like the idea of waiting for my record to arrive I head into the record room, dim the lights, usually get the dog up on the couch with me and give it a good listen. If it's something with heavy bass one of our cats usually joins me at some point, and if the album is a little brighter, the other cat usually comes in instead.

I believe this is the gameboy version.

  9. At the moment I’ve only got 2 hooked up to a ceiling light, so it’s nothing elaborate. But even the 2 are pretty effective – I tested it out with a couple of shades of green and yellow-green for a trial listen of Isis’ Oceanic, and it was killer. (Just wish there was a way to have them slowly shift and transition into one another. Maybe with an app.) They’re not cheap so they’re not a priority at the moment, but I’d like to eventually get one of those 5’ floor lamps that can house 4 or more, starting from the ground up. That’s the dream. I’ve played around with a few apps that are supposed to synchronize them with the music detected by your phone but I haven’t found one that feels right just yet. Anyway, I digress. It’s cool to see so many others serious about their first listens though. I think it’s a bit of a lost art these days.

  10. Agreed. The only way I’m paying $17 bucks for a 7 inch in this series, is if Sugarcult gets pressed. Nothing else is remotely close to being worth that price.

  11. Damn, got the two De La's and will probably grab Handsom Boy as well.. VMP came back with a vengeance at my wallet this month, it's been awhile.

  12. I'm really partial to LP2, but it seems they spent WAYYYY more time crafting these songs

  13. Are you paying by PayPal. If so, you need to click on the PayPal icon at the top of the page.

  14. I've noticed sometimes Media Mail doesn't show up if I use Google's auto-fill option...for some reason. I dunno, maybe that's what happened and why it didn't show up.

  16. I know this is going to sound nerdy as hell, but as someone who’s a little ritualistic with the first listen of new albums I’m hyped on, I really like to kick back and give them as much of my full attention as I can. To add to the immersion, I recently got a hold of a few LIFX smart bulbs and have been programming them to reflect the album art or packaging of albums that I listen to. It really helps to bathe the room in as much atmosphere as possible, and switching the lights back to normal when the album ends really heightens the “whoa” experience. I’ve already got LP3 dialed in and it’s a beaut.

  17. Looking for innovation in a Bad Religion song? Lol. I'm just glad they're still making music.

  18. I’d cave so hard if a proper 320 or FLAC leaked before mid March. I’m weak. Much respect for anyone waiting to have the album in hand for their first listen.

  19. You can grab both; if you sign up, be sure to choose the Essentials track, then you can buy the other one from the store if it's still in stock. Be sure to be on around 5 EST though; it'll go fast. It's a good pick, but let's be real here...better than DLS?

  20. Had this in my cart and questioned if I really need this. I could have probably sung the vocal melody perfectly with just the words and the music without ever hearing the song. It sounds exactly like most Bad Religion songs and that is fine. I'm a big fan, but I'm going to wait to hear the rest. At least they are pretty damn reliable and you know what you're going to get every single time. Kinda like the Ramones, you wanted to hear something different, but in reality you didn't. I wish Social Distortion stuck with the sounds on their first two albums. Just an old man rambling about the punk of his youth.

  23. Since streaming got so easy and my record collection got bigger I've been way better at holding off for release dates, but this is a test. Thanks for the heads up about the 320 rip, that would have got me to cave I think!

  27. Don't have the box but this was my thought. Really surprised there's not a red. Also Epitaph/KRM usually does a variant they they send out a link to people who have purchased band's stuff before, but isn't linked in the store. Going to wait a bit and see if we get one.

  29. This band just gets cornier by the year but damn they know how to entertain live. Alexandria 2 is really solid. Haven’t seen them since the Flash Flood tour but after listening to this one I’d go see them again

  33. I think you can start collecting no matter what your preferences are. One thing vinyl has done for me has expanded my tastes, and introduced me to new things. Browsing here and reddit (r/vinyl) and following vinyl-centered instagram accounts and reading comments and reviews has led to me listening to new things. As well as shopping in store- you'll see something that looks cool and throw it on their demo setup and end up bringing it home. Expanding a bit on Derek's advice-- If you want to enjoy the hobby definitely focus on setup first. It's easy to want to skimp on your first bit of gear and spend the $ on records, but consider the fact that if you can get a good quality TT, amp/receiver, and speakers together, you'll enjoy each and every record even more, and maintain them more easily. A lot of people spend $100 on a Crosley or LP60 and then have trouble playing some of their albums due to poor construction on the cheapie tables. The ceramic stylus common to those turntables wears down quickly and starts damaging your records. Furthermore, if you buy just 10 new albums and that's at least $200 into the hobby, much more than some people pay for their first TT. What I'd do is check your local craigslist, as well as USAudioMart, or any stores near you for some good vintage gear that's been cared for and runs smooth. Quality and performance of that stuff will far outweigh new gear at the same price point. If you can save up $300-500 for your first setup, it'll be several years before you'll consider upgrading. Good luck and keep us posted!

    Video Game OSTs v2.0

My votes are for MGS and Sonic 3. Sonic 2 would be cool too, but I prefer 3 cause of the MJ influence. Hell, even Moonwalker would be groovy. Or just give me a goshdarn Sonic Genesis collection. Moonshake loves a good collection/compilation. 1, 2, 3, S&K.

  35. I've had an Audio Technica AT-LP120 for a few years now. Yesterday I went to pop-up the white target light while dropping the needle, and it flickered on and off, and won't turn on now. I'm assuming it shorted/burnt out. Has anyone replaced a target light before? I found the little light online for a few dollars, but I've got no clue how to replace it. There is a shop near me that would probably be able to do it, but is it possible to do it myself without much effort?
