I have a question for vinyl collectors
NewOldStock and 8 others reacted to allenh for a topic
I got into vinyl records at the tender age of 9 in 1977 in the forlorn but laudable hope I could in later life bore the living shit out of people at parties about the subject once vinyl records were no longer fashionable, all went fine with this cunning plan all through the 1990's where I could hold an air of unfounded superiority at social gatherings ad infinitum, in fact as boring the shit out of people went I was the man right up until the early 2000's and then some cock womble decided to make vinyl records cool again with the facial topiary single speed bicycle riding types and there I was cast out into the fashionable herd once again. I've been in stunned silence on the subject ever since around 2006 and I've never really recovered, do you think there is some support group I could talk to about this?9 points -

I really hope that someone, somewhere, has cherry-picked their favorite contributions to these "research" threads (or survey websites) to share in a PowerPoint presentation. Ideally among peers. "Going off the sample pool taken from 'Vinyl Collective', you can see right here that the current consumer of vinyl over the age of 20 was introduced to the format through cat gifs. There's also an indication that vinyl connoisseurs residing on the East coast share a correlating belief in worshipping the devil, and a select percentile found themselves entering the vinyl world solely to fashion bowls."7 points -

it all started when i was 7 years old. My sister and i both had 45's of we built this city by Starship. I was rocking out so hard that I accidentally stepped on hers, so i had to give her mine. Fast forward to today my collection consists of a few Corey Hart albums and roughly 600 copies of we built this city by starship.5 points -

Ally of MTHR here... Floored by all this appreciation - seriously. I wish there was more MTHR for you all - it seemed right we started gaining a little momentum and planning shows that things took a different turn. But, seasons do that. MTHR remains as I wished for her to sound - a ghost. I wrote and sang these invocations during one of the more chilling seasons in life. It means everything to have shared that with you all. I'm still making music. It's a little different...but I hope to share it soon.4 points

180g records suck, it's a marketing gimmick that people confide in for someone odd reason but in all reality, adds an extra 40g to the record(s) when it doesn't need it. this is the main reason people open 180g records to find them instantly warped and/or unplayable in some way.2 points -
You might also just need to clean the record.2 points

i know that. but trump loves attention. why not tweet it? he tweets EVERYTHING. it was a canadian white nationalist who did it. that is the answer i was looking for. Louvre tweet: A new radical Islamic terrorist has just attacked in Louvre Museum in Paris. Tourists were locked down. France on edge again. GET SMART U.S. QC city tweet should have read: A white nationalist and domestic terrorist just shot up and killed 8 muslims while praying. -------- Silent about an attack that doesn't fit into his islamaphobic narrative Fox jumped the gun so fast, a majority of uninformed still think the Moroccan guy did it.2 points -
Guys, if anyone is thinking of making a music purchase today, I would encourage you all to do so via our Bandcamp page rather than The Ghostly Store. Today, Bandcamp is donating 100% of proceeds to the ACLU in response to the egregious and disgusting policies implemented by the orange fascist currently occupying the White House. Read Bandcamp's statement here. See which labels/artists are donating as well here (over 150 as of writing). Ghostly's Bandcamp page is here.2 points

My ex-girlfriend and I bought a record player together. She had a collection of 80s and 90s stuff, and I only picked up about 4-5 records before we broke up. She got the record player in the "divorce." Fast-forward a few months. I've got a new girlfriend, but we're long distance. She buys me a record player as a birthday present after I mention having a couple of records but nothing to play them on. It was the most thoughtful gift I'd ever received, and I started going crazy buying records. It's been a while since I counted, but I bet I have over 500 LPs and probably 400-500 7"s. Also, now she's my wife. So, win-win, really!2 points -

I understand you are a fan, but do you really think ATL will win? I'm genuinely wondering. I mean, anything can happen, but I just don't see ATL pulling it off, other than some major injuries/errors on the NE side. Even then, they always pull the game out of their ass.1 point -

A lot of people have complained about the recent reissues of this album. I just checked discogs and people were complaining about the 2nd side and especially B2 skipping. Here is what someone said. "The second side of my version is close to unplayable. Skips abound (similar to those saying B2 skipped). Will be looking for another version soon. Very disappointed." Might want to look into a better/older pressing of that record.1 point

Why are people so bothered by variant collectors? I am one and I think it's awesome and fun to pick up each piece especially if there is a cool story to tell about it. Your collection and set up look rad. Nice job.1 point -

It really says a lot about a person if they think it's acceptable to destroy private property, threaten violence, and use force against fellow citizens as a means of protest. You don't get to hurt people or their property because a third party is making an argument you don't like.1 point -
