  4. Anyone else hear about the new A24 horror film coming out called “Hereditary?” It premiered at Sundance recently and people are saying it’s one of the scariest films to come out in a long time. I know those words get thrown around a lot, but A24 hasn’t let me down yet, especially when it comes to horror. They know their shit. http://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3480180/sundance-film-hereditary-getting-buzz-scariest-horror-movie-years/

  6. Women's rumble was better than the men's, I thought. I enjoyed a lot more of the surprise entrants. There were a couple iffy spots, I guess. My only big gripe with it was how often the competitors rolled under the bottom rope and out of the ring. It became hard to keep track of who's still in the match. Not surprised by the winner, but I was definitely excited to see the debut at the end of the show.

  8. New to Vaporwave or just curious about what the genre has to offer? All releases below are a great entry point with each being vastly different than the next. Most already have vinyl releases, some are in the pre-order stage, and others have been sold out for a long time. "Coming Soon" section is for releases with confirmed vinyl releases upcoming but are not yet available by the label or artist. I will actively work to update the links to these pre-orders and restocks when the information becomes available. If you see a missing release (must have a vinyl release of some sort) please feel free to post the info here or pm me directly to have it added. Thanks and enjoy! 9. PO vinyl - http://www.fatwreck.com/record/detail/984 Dates/info - https://www.punknews.org/article/65782/lawrence-arms-to-release-hits-rarites-comp-and-tour ----------------------------------------- So, the Lawrence Arms are 'bout to drop da fyre. Or just a new album. TBD. Speculate/ Report here. I'm antsy as shit over it. Update: Probably a Greatest Hits album called We Are The Champions Of The World. Probably coming out on FAT Wreck Chords at the end of May. I'll probably order two color variants in hopes of trading up to a store variant. Most people will probably buy this even though we already own all of the songs already (several times over even). We're probably suckers. (yes that's my actual dumb face when the Larry Arms had an actual new album)

  13. Saw him on Saturday. He had the 2lp of All Melody, Spaces, Victoria, Screws, Solo, Wintermusik, The Bells... and probably something else I don’t remember with him. Pretty much most of the releases in print. The concert was wonderful, by the way. If you have the chance, go see him live!

  14. Hi, first post ever. I just received a new copy of "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye that I bought on Amazon. Side 1 played as expected. But then when I started playing Side 2, instead of hearing "Right On," I was greeted with "Neat Neat Neat" by The Damned! Color me confused. To add to the confusion, the next song that came on was "Easy" by The Commodores! It turns out, my Side 2 of "What's Going On" is actually Side 2 of LP1 of the soundtrack to the film "Baby Driver"! Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty happy that I can listen to "Mercy Mercy Me" and then flip it over and hear "Debra" by Beck! But I'm still put off a bit by this. Does anyone else have this pressing? Further, does anyone know how to contact Motown to let them know that they might want to raise hell with whoever is pressing their records?

  17. @Gumbo72203 Making my way through The Sun Burns Bright now. EDIT: Sorry @Gumbo72203, think you are on your own on this one. That was about as cliche of an album as I've ever heard. Everything from the band name, to the album & song titles are just like . And every song literally unfolded the exact same way with no real melodies or moments that stick in your brain. I can't say it's just a flat out bad album, it's just so cookie cutter that I'll never revisit. I'm honestly a bit surprised as well this one does it for you. I can definitely hear the Coastlands influence, but their music (recorded) is infinitely better than this. It just seems like they sprinkled some of what works for them on a loaf of stale wheat bread lol. I said (recorded) because after seeing Coastlands perform at Dunk, I'm honestly not surprised to see their name attached to this album. Coastlands recorded was really good ambient post-rock with some climactic moments that weren't over done & accented their albums really well. That's what I was expecting at Dunk, and I was really looking forward to their performance, especially as a come-down after End of the Ocean burned the place to the ground. But I couldn't recognize a single song of theirs during their set because it was just this punch you in the face blurry wall of sound that made them sound like some bland post-rock band that just wanted to see how loud they could get for no good reason other than to be loud. So coming off of that, I'm not too surprised that someone from that band would help produce an album that sounds like a dime-a-dozen post-rock band. I hope new Coastlands material doesn't start to suffer from that. And I'll forever be puzzled by that performance of theirs. I even had some random guy come up to me before they played asking what they sounded like, and I adamantly told him something along the lines of "Oh yeah these guys are nice & ambient & will be a good palate cleanser". Midway through the set I found the guy and apologized because I was so wrong haha.

  22. Permanent records Chicago was sold but still in operation as joyride records. From what I can tell it is still very similar to permanent. If you go to Chicago I recommend June-August with shoulder months may and September. There are tons of free or cheap outdoor concerts, movies, yoga, street fests, fireworks, etc. you will have a much more entertaining time. For how long you are traveling and the price of flights id really suggest staying at least 5 nights. If you can go longer I’d also recommend taking the train to Milwaukee for two nights. It’s about an hour and a half train ride. Milwaukee has almost everything Chicago has without a lot of the big city congestion. Or take a bus to Madison, WI. It’s about 2 1/2 hours and is a university town & state capital.

  27. Yeah, I should have prefaced that with "I only saw them on the Apocryphon tour and this last tour." I imagine as a young band they were at least more fun. Last time I saw them John couldn't even hold a tune with 5 hands, all their instruments kept falling out of tune, and they just fucking STOOD THERE playing incredibly sloppily. If you're gonna be boring, at least play everything right.

  31. So many labels order "first" and "second" presses at the same time and literally sit on the second presses, although I guess you can call them first press technically. It's more common than you think. And in this case Saddle Creek more than likely didn't plan on it or do it strategically to save money on their overall unit cost, they were simply trying to give more people an option to get a color variant cause it sold out so fast. My point is... I only see this as a positive thing unless you're a selfish asshole Looking forward to this album though. AOTY potential. I copped the second press tri + the indie exclusive. Will totally buy / trade for the /500 tri color if someone wants to make some ca$h off me or wants a different variant of the album (I'll order it for you) xoxo

  34. I’ve wanted to continue to support 30StM since I got into them after hearin’ a demo of “Bhudda For Mary” on some ol’ Epic/Interscope promo CD and fell in love. The debut album is fantastic, ABL was strong, but they started their downhill slide with the second album. And things just continue to get worse. I like parts of “Walk On Water,” but overall it’s pretty bad. ...and to think I saw them like seven or eight times in support of their first album, and Jared Leto even began to recognize me at their shows...

  39. This is what I managed to collect so far. Glad I was able to find a copy of the green from US. // I need that spectacular Rainbow Splatter to complete the set now. To all of you please help me out to find a copy of it!! In case any of you have one and want to part with it please let me know. I can eventually trade some of the multiple variants I have of many Converge releases or pay in cash. You can check my list at the link in my signature below. (Only if you have TDIU Rainbow Splatter, no other trades or sales atm).

  40. I default to this mentality with anything that sends blood to Gumbo’s lil’ gumby, and seeing Don post “yeah, I would’ve bought this a decade ago” basically reinforces that stance. You dig what you dig so there’s truly no “right” or “wrong” answers... but at risk of sounding too pretentious, it has way less to do with preferring “avant-garde” spins on the genre, and more to do with just being fatigued by the through-and-through approaches. You’re allowed to enjoy bands that do not push the envelope, but some of us have been listening to that formula for over a decade and struggle to find any real merit in it today. Burnt out.

  41. I respect individual tastes, but this one really has my scratching my head wondering what you hear in this. This album makes Collapse Under the Empire sound like Godspeed in their prime. Literally EVERY song sits at 5:30 ± :30, and I've never seen a band so egregiously milk the "start slow, then explode" post-rock archetype. For anyone that wants to challenge me on this, I invite you to click the link and listen to two timestamps on each song: one at 1:20, and one at 3:40. With ONE exception ("Sky, Wind, and Waves"), the former is your average ride-cymbal beat, tender guitar plucks; the latter your cookie-cutter multi-layer guitar riffs in major keys, titanic drums - you get the idea. (In "Never Departing Shadow" the crescendo comes about 30 seconds earlier, and in "Home is Not a Place..." a little later, just in case Gumbo comes for my head.)
