  1. Do NOT order from SRC INSTEAD, order directly from the band/label and Get a cool splatter. https://plainwhitets.fearlessrecords.com/products/plain-white-ts-all-that-we-needed-yellow-splatter-lp/?fbclid=IwAR2L6Bd3PG_oUlbL16EDK9yKWLSbJT6V_2px2r5eyUczIN9EWmHNEftwt9c

  4. Only have one complete listen thus far, but right away I can say this isn't as straight-up aggressive as their previous releases, especially early in the record. There are moments of chaos that seem to be emphasized by the longer passages of dulled vocals and eerie guitar work, but it doesn't bust out of the gate like The Task, Image of Control (I), or Thorn in the Lion's Paw. It will take some time to digest, as per usual with Sumac. But I will be interested to hear other people's thoughts when they get their copies. On a different note, I kinda wish Thrill Jockey would have made this a gatefold and charged a little more if necessary, tbh. The inner cardboard sleeve arrived with the glue already worn away, so I will need to repair that at some point. And the outer cardboard sleeve is just big enough that it makes it tricky putting it in a poly sleeve. But the records themselves look and sound fantastic. Lastly, if anyone is worried about their copy taking too long to arrive and would like my download code, lemme know.

  7. This all reads like a true Sumac experience, nice. From my experience, all their albums have taken quite a while to digest and I feel as though the explosive moments pack so much more of a punch when they're a payoff to the more restrained and experimental passages. Eventually it all begins to congeal with every winding passage and left-turn making sense. That's always my favorite moment in exploring a new Sumac record – that turning point – where it all magically kinda' clicks into place and feels like a familiar journey start to finish. I'm seeing photos of the gold circulate and it's a beaut. Almost a little translucent on top of having those nice ripples. Your copy sound pretty good? Kind of a bummer to hear the jacket itself is so minimal despite the incredible art.

  9. IMO there isn't a single reason other than their prime video service. I've been getting things faster or as fast from everywhere else. I'd rather support other businesses anyway.

  11. I was nervous because I had something sent to me on the 8th and it had to go through there but it got to me just fine, I feel quite fortunate. Seems like a crap shoot these days, I hope you get resolution soon. On a random note, had a mail lady yesterday mark a package as not deliverable because of the wrong address. I went out and found her a few stops over and talked to her about it. She said "oh, I thought it wouldn't go there." She did end up bringing it back, but damn...

  13. Not going to lie I am super sick of people who have tons of buyer ratings still act like theyre clueless about these mail delays. People who are looking at the same tracking number as me day to day still messaging about it. Pay for expedited or shut the f*ck up. Have a great day at work everyone!

  15. Records are getting mailed out from California at Lauren Records HQ. Postcards are coming from me here in Philly and I'm still writing them. Will get there soon if you're in the first 100!

  18. I downloaded Vimeo on my Roku TV and watched it that way. Just search “Dear Jack” and the full thing is on there. And yeah I enjoyed it! I didn’t know the full extent/timing of his leukemia, so it really puts that aspect of his life into perspective.

  19. Got my gold copy today, it looks great. I love the art by AT on these past few records. Haven’t spun it yet but will do so on Wednesday when I’m able to.

  21. by the way, i think the first AMITW record has gotten harder to find, discogs and ebay copies are selling for $40 or so. it's still available direct from the label for $17 if anybody needs it before it goes OOP. https://store.fantasyrecordings.com/products/621400-andrew-mcmahon-in-the-wilderness-andrew-mcmahon-in-the-wilderness

  23. I also love BoV, and think it sounds great. Abyss on the other hand, despite having some great songs, has terrible production, IMO, and the vinyl doesn’t save it in that regard. It’s actually a tough listen for me. Abyss has the lowest DR of any of her albums. Its so dense, dirty, and supposed to represent this dream like hellscape (so dynamics would seem important) to begin with, no need to ruin it with excessive mixing/mastering.

  24. Hi y'all, thanks for posting this. Appreciate the support. For the vinyl heads - we have had really good luck with the random colors this time around. I've done a ton of random pressings and sometimes I've gotten the "transition/mixed brown blob thing" as someone else mentioned. Most of the "transition colors" that I've seen for this pressing have been varying levels of translucent yellow. They look really nice, especially alongside the shiny gold matchbooks that come with every record. The main records (/400) are a nice opaque turquoise and they sound really good. One of the better quality / thicker pressings I've ever had for my own music (other than the time when the plant accidentally pressed all of the first pressing of the first Signals LP on 180 gram. Really lucked out on that one!). The jackets have a nice rough matte finish on 'em, too. And thank you to anybody reading this, whether you know my work with Signals or any other projects or not. A lot of these songs were inspired by time spent listening to stuff that we listen to on the road. Tom Petty, Neil Young, Jets to Brazil, Weakerthans, Laura Stevenson (who sings with me on a song here), Magnolia Electric Co. (whose lap steel player Mike Brenner plays on about half this record). Super proud of it, hope y'all like it. - Max

  25. I vividly remember being broke working my pizza delivery job and managed to make just enough in tips during my shift to buy it. I rushed to the bank and put just enough in my account and ordered it leaving me with a couple cents to my name. I too wish I could have bought an extra copy, lol.

  26. I think we’re about to see lots more higher priced vinyl now since bands aren’t touring. The $40-50 release might be standard for a while.

  28. I just received the ultimate vinyl set. 4 copies, a 7 inch and a few other things. And it’s all destroyed. They packed it in a 15x15 box with some bubble wrap and paper. Nothing to support the records at all.
