  1. Like a 30 year old collecting posters and pieces of plastic with Phish music on them isn't dorky. We are all lame. Get off your high horse.I'm "socially awkward", do not want to talk to a single person in the RSD line and proud of it.

  2. You guys are better people than me. The few times I went out on RSD and waited in line I immediately hated the folks around me in line. I just stood in line silently and quietly seethed about the annoying people around me until the store opened.

  5. Alright, this thread is where it started for me with TAC so I'll post this here. After hearing all of the hype about these guys, buying Two Conversations on a whim and loving it, I decided that, over time, I was going to get their discography and listen to each one for the first time on vinyl. I went from Two Conversations, Illumination Ritual, Sagarmatha, LLO, End of Ring Wars and ending today with Mare Vitalis. The depth of their discography is mind boggling. After hearing TC through LLO I thought I knew what they sounded like; more or less had them figured out. I was sorely mistaken. End of Ring Wars absolutely blew me away. I didn't have any backstory on how TAC started and so it was a great shock when I started hearing 90's emo blasting out at me. Listening to Mare Vitalis now, I can definitely see the transition from that into more of their current sound. I remember talking to Derek when I first listened to TAC and thought it was strange when he told me he couldn't really rank the albums sequentially in which he liked more than the others. After listening to all of their LPs that makes a lot of sense to me now. I don't necessarily think I could break them down into a certain order but I do know that this band has slowly become on of my favorites. The body of work that they've put together is really some masterful stuff. Super glad I stumbled into this thread a number of months ago when I did. So I guess I just wanted to say thanks for providing all of the hype and piquing my interest guys!

    Thrift Store Find

Guys, I have been looking for a cool vintage stereo for my garage for a while. Today I scored a 1964 RCA 4VF326 console stereo for 32 dollars at my local thrift store. It still has the original manuals, its a tube unit and it still works. I may sand it down this fall and apply some fresh stain. Here are a few pics:

  15. I got my copy of Pinkerton today. This is my first Mofi release and experience with sound stage direct and I must say, I am throughly impressed. From the sturdy gatefold cardboard jacket, to the fancy "archive quality" vinyl sleeve, the packaging is just exquisite. SSD shipped my lone LP in their own fancy mailer inside a larger carboard box; they made damn sure there was no wiggle room. I asked in the notes to place the LP outside the jacket to prevent seam splits (which they bring to customers attention as an option during the check out process) and sure enough the vinyl was packed inside its archive grade sleeve inside a seperate polybag. As I was opening this package I began to feel guilty for using the coupon code and getting the package for $26 shipped. Listening to the album and it sounds amazing. I cant think of an LP I own that sounds much better. Now I know not to hold any reservations. I waited a while to pull the trigger due to that $30 price tag, but if the presentation and sound quality of this release reflects the mofi catalogue, I wouldn't hesitate from ordering any future releases. Worth every penny. If you're on the fence, JUST BUY IT.

in the same breath, it's not fair for you to judge how someone else grieves. people deal with shit in different ways, just the way it is. dane, my deepest sympathies. i wish i could be more of a support. i know you said you're an RN, so i'm sure you're familiar with kuebler-ross and the stages of grieving. i suspect your current obsession with suicide is part of an attempt to understand your brother more. that's perfectly reasonable, but i suggest you try to split that time with something that will progress your own healing. read stories written by survivors, read about the grieving process, maybe join a support group, seek therapy. you can spend the rest of your life trying to come to peace with something that might never make sense to you, but you can certainly find peace with yourself sooner. stay strong, buddy.

  31. Between this and Mogwai, I'm glad to see you're expanding your horizons into some quality jams, good sir. Not to imply there was anything wrong with the music you're already familiar with, it's just nice to see fellow VCers appreciate wholesome music outside of Thrice / Blink-182 / Brand New / Balance & Composure / Circa Survive / City & Colour.

  33. Why would you lose respect for a band who licenses their most popular album to a company that's gonna do a really top-notch audiophile release?? It was $50 because it was a double 45 RPM audiophile release, from a label that specializes in those. (I picked up their 45 RPM version of "Blue Train"... AMAZING. Could I have grabbed the $15 cheap-o repress instead? Sure... If I wanted a record that sounded like ass.) Anyway. There's also a cheap-o version of August as well from the Back To Black reissue in England. Still pricey due to import fees but if money's your primary concern... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Counting-Crows-August-Everything-After-Ltd-Ogv-12-VINYL-NEW-/390620951504?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item5af2d2b3d0

  34. Would like to discuss this. I'm a big live show geek, a concert goer before a vinyl collector. What was the crowd like? I find so often that a live show has more to do with the people watching it, than the people up on stage performing. Specifically I'm talking about in modern rock, be it any genre of metal, punk, whatever. Don't get me wrong, those on stage are absolutely the ones giving a presentation of their art, and are responsible for influencing the spark that ignites the excitement in the crowd. I'm not trying to let them off the hook by any means. That said, was everyone standing there with their arms crossed wearing a scowl on their mug? If you have a venue full of folks not scared to let go of inhibitions & smash their neighbor & run around in a circle, crowd surf, a live show like Norma Jean has the potential to go from 0 to 60 as soon as they start playing, every time they play. But if everyone's standing there with their hands in their pockets, you might as well be watching the DVD at home. Not to mention the band gets way more into it when they've got a crowd full of people participating. Though I know moshing isn't for everyone. But you at least get what I'm saying. I've been at shows where it isn't extremely fun or exciting & it's because the people in the crowd suck & are being defiant, while the band is doing just fine on stage. Or maybe they're just standing their holding up their iPhone recording. You're seeing this LIVE-WHY are you filming this?? I have nothing against a picture or two but put it away. Leave it in the car. "I'm here seeing this in person, but I'm gonna film it-and watch it later on my laptop!"

  36. They should make a special exception for A-Rod. Each opposing team gets four "special" pitches per game to direct at him. Special pitches cannot be pitched consecutively and they may not be above the shoulder. A team must not exceed four pitches, but there is no minimum requirement. In the event that the first three special pitches make contact the fourth is considered a "free pitch", A-Rod will not be awarded first base if struck by the fourth pitch in that scenario. Just an idea.

I disagree based on experience. I have no shortage of self confidence in my work. I also have hearing issues and if there is background noise, which is often, I direct my ears towards the speaker then turn to talk to them. You want my creative? Well, don't be a weak pansy and take offense to me not staring you in the eye 100% of the time. I'm fairly successful, landed four new projects in the past two months that I've fully pitched and negotiated. Let's at least leave room for exceptions instead of speaking absolutes. Also, when will dudes learn that crushing someones hand in a handshake doesn't make you look strong as opposed to an asshole. Yes, firm is good, show you want to be there but there is no need to hurt people in some macho display.
