  1. Good evening, VC. I’ve spent the last few days checking out museummouth’s YouTube channel, OffTheRecord. This giveaway is open to everyone across the globe. One lucky entrant will receive a brand new copy of the record of their choice from the list below. I will randomly select the winner out of a hat on the eve of March 5 (next Thursday). To enter the giveaway: SUBSCRIBE to his YouTube Channel here. COMMENT on one of the videos on his channel. CHOOSE one of the following records and POST your selection in this thread: My Chemical Romance – Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (Clear w/ Red Splatter) (10) My Chemical Romance – The Black Parade (Bone & Black Swirl) (10) Sleep – Holy Mountain (White) (5) Sleep – Dopesmoker (Sativa Edition) (12) Torche – Restarter (Purple & Green Merge) (3) Mastodon – Remission (Purple & Black Split) (2) Mastodon – Leviathan (Gray) (0) Brand New – Daisy (Green) (6) AFI – All Hallow’s EP (Orange) (4) The Ataris – So Long, Astoria (Coke Bottle Clear) (2) Circa Survive – Descensus (Clear w/ Blue & White Splatter) (9) Periphery – Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal (Red Swirl) (2) **total entrants as of 10:24 PM EST on 3/3 is 65 (selections in parentheses)** Thank you for your participation and good luck to all!

  4. Yes, it's definitely better. Our final allotment is somewhat in question, but we'll take care of people in the order they ordered. It was great to see how many people deciphered our cryptic Tweet about the presale.

  5. If this thing is $40 I'll jump all over it. $40? What a bullshit price! This should be $30, tops.

  6. Well, in our case, here is the thinking (and depending on how you read it, might sound defensive, but it's not... it's something I've thought/talked about a lot in the last week or two):1) this label was started with two releases that didn't sell out for months, and 1/3 of the first three STILL hasn't sold out. and it's not like this was a 3 second sell out. It took almost 72 hours before these were gone, and it was posted on this board (twice) within the first couple of hours of being on sale. 2) Scott approached us about doing "IT" because he liked the limited and weird handmade vibe, and because my partner in the label is Dimitri, his bandmate in Dr. Dog. He didn't necessarily want to release this album as a full length, "proper" album, mostly because it was old and had already been partially used for other things. 3) The whole "limited, never repressed, and no digital" philosphy is not because we want to deprive the world of anything, or jack up prices, it's because artists like Scott or Grandaddy (who are the next one), would NEVER release something with us if we WERENT limited and somewhat gimmicky. Their labels and managers wouldn't allow it either. 4) We feel your pain. It's not fun for us to invest $2300 in expenses plus LITERALLY 80-100 man hours of assembly and production (we have 4-5 hour packing parties that take 15-20 people to put those damn things together) to make $3000 gross. So we make a whopping $700 in profit (which (hopefully) just pays for the records that don't sell out, or the beer and snacks for the packing party.) while somebody else takes a $20 investment and makes 1000% profit on it for really zero work. 5) we don't want to be a "business" record label and take it seriously... because that involves way too many artistic compromises and money investment. "Will this band "move units"?", "How can we maximize placement?", "How much $$$ should we be dedicating to marketing/radio/digital", "How can we "maximize the buzz", etc. We just want to make fun stuff for bands that we love. I would rather work my ass off with 5 jobs (which I do) and not have to care about whether an artist will "recoup" if I want to release their record. And almost nobody buys anything I release except for the occasional release like this for a higher profile artist. We don't intentionally limit things. It's just sort of the nature of the beast in some ways. This record was an extreme example, and I'm sure the Grandaddy one coming in a couple months will be even worse. But, next time I'll put up a thing that says "Hey, if you don't want to own this record, please don't buy it just to flip it immediately. If you do, just know, we think you are kind of a jerk for buying something that somebody else would love to own and then making them pay 10 times as much for it". That might not actually work, but at least maybe they will think about it. Also, I tracked down about 75% of the flippers on ebay and discogs (the ones I could find) for the McMicken record and removed them from my email list so they will at least not have early notice of upcoming things.

  8. Sometimes you want a stuffed crust pizza that's going to make you hate yourself.I fully endorse garbage food chains, sure you can get a legitimate burrito from a small restaurant where the menu is only in Spanish, but sometimes you want a shitty $.35 Taco Bell nightmare. Sometimes you gotta treat your body like a trashcan in a hotel room, disrespect the shit out of it and cram it full of nonsense.

  10. You guys may want to put your ccmusic orders in soon... Looks like they're realizing how much money they can make on their vinyl. Check this "new" vinyl site that importcds and ccmusic just launched, www.ccvinyl.com. http://www.ccvinyl.com/seth-avett-and-jessica-lea-mayfield-sing-elliott/696859945861 http://www.ccmusic.com/music/vinyl/4163196/avett-seth-mayfield-jessica-lea-seth-avett-jessica-lea-mayfield-sing-elliott

  16. I can guarantee you wouldn't have said anything if you had your record already. CYLS is one of the biggest labels in the scene that is run by a constantly touring band, all of your comparisons just don't work. I'm sorry for recommending this album to you, please stop shitting on my thread.

  18. Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. It's one of my favorite books ever. It's just kind of fucked up, but not really depressing. I mean, it is depressing, but in an interpretive way. You could read it and just laugh constantly. It's all perspective I guess.

  20. I never did post a photo of my record room after selling my old shelves (that everyone here loved but sadly they outlived their usefulness due to space constraints and the fact that my fiance demanded that i keep the vault contained to one room). Here's the new room as of a week or so ago. I redid the room last spring, my lady liked the expedits in white so we went out and grabbed enough to fill the room. At some point that 2x4 is going to be replaced by a 4x4 when I run out of room in the existing shelves. I don't give a shit about that window being blocked as I have never opened it. The current total count of records is a little shy of 10,000. I think I will have a party to celebrate when I hit the 10k mark. Most of the old shelves are still in service over at Logan Hardware in Chicago. I kept a couple of them up in my office for the mailorder stuff.

  30. I don't see the problem with them doing this. I know for a fact my LEGALLY REQUIRED insurance will barely pay for half my little car and vans definitely cost more. If fans want to see them tour they can donate, if they don't and don't mind not having the chance to see them they don't have to. They've never come down here so I didn't donate, simple. Also, complaining about it taking two weeks when three or four people are packing more than a thousand orders is hilarious. I'm pretty sure you ordered it after most of us too (just got mine btw, love the new layout) chillax. Youu also don't know why they put the tour copies up as soon as they got home. Touring is expensive, maybe they were hungry or cold and needed the money you never know. This band actually isn't one to do this unless it was REALLY important. They straight up ignored a ton of people asking them to kickstart this repress because they couldn't afford to press it again. Their reasoning was very vocal and very similar to what you're saying without being nearly as mean, this isn't a light move for them to do this so it must've been straight up impossible to pay it themselves.

  32. I once bought a new shirt and wore it on my way to Cyrpus. The label in the collar started itching me about 2 mintues after leaving the house and I couldn't cut it off for at least another 8 hours. I was very annoyed at a 'label' that day.

  36. It's up to you if you want to view getting your money back as "shitty". It's not a universal opinion though or one backed by PayPal, Discogs, or any business philosophy outside of the 'be cool, bro' code. You're a customer and the onus is on the seller to make sure the package reaches you safely and incur any costs or risks associated with that. They are making a profit from transactions and any long term seller will have incurred costs that eat from those profits but it's part of doing business. If a seller doesn't want to wade into this issue, it's their option to choose Insurance to protect themselves. Insurance isn't intended to protect the buyer. Unfortunately, the seller can't make $8 from the transaction and then also want the risk-free perks that one experiences as a buyer when they shop. That isn't ideal for sellers but it's how shipping policies and culpability is set up by the moderating marketplaces. If following the protocols and guidelines is "shitty" then maybe the best option is to avoid Discogs and PayPal and do transactions via Craig's List and cash so that everyone can be cool and nice about settling these things.

  40. Small tip for those purchasing vinyl through Hastings: if you put an item in your cart and then just leave the site and don't finish making the purchase, they'll start e-mailing you to "complete your purchase." After a few e-mails reminding you of this, an e-mail should come with a 5% off coupon code as an extra incentive to complete your purchase. It's not much but I've found it handy to cut down on the tax.

  42. On the plus side I've seen worse as a suggestion for someone's first turntable and I'd take it over a Crosley or similar plus it is only $70 but on the down side it is still poorly made from poor materials with shody quality control (much like a Crosley in fact) and $70 is still $70. How reliable it will be is down to luck as is it what you will get back for it when you try and move it on after you work out that $70 was about $50 too much for it Also Pyle is the shortened brand name as the words "of shit" are silent in the full name.
