  1. Okay, this one's going to be a bit weird. This isn't my record storage area, but it was my record mailer & other packaging storage area. For some reason I still had almost every mailer, box and padded envelope since my very first ebay purchase in 2006, tucked away in the garage. I reused quite a few when selling stuff, but other than that everything was still there, so no packaging was ever thrown away. 7 and a half years later I decided to finally get rid of everything, but put it all in a pile and took a pic first. So this is the postal packaging for almost every internet purchase I made (music, movies, games, electronics) between March 2006 and November 2013:

  2. Serious LOLZ at the folks who think their releases are just "kinda pricey." I struggle to think of another company out there ripping off so many collectors at such a quick pace. Act quick: I hear that this year's sub will come with a FIVE mil poly sleeve! Support labels that give back to a community, release original music, and offer it at a reasonable price. There are TONS to choose from! Besides, as it has already been said, all of these $RC releases are easily found down the road at a fraction of the price through other avenues.

  3. This is dumb. I should stock up on those Circa Survive represses because even if I have zero intentions to keep them, I can easily throw them up on eBay for profit simply because "PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO PAY" flipper prices. That's not econ 101. That's just being shitty. What you should've done is offered your red copy (or your sonic boom record) here at VC. Either in this thread, or in the Sale board. You could've easily explained what the situation was, and broken even in the process. Hell, you probably could've asked for a couple bucks extra and obtained plenty of potential buyers in the process. That's just my take, anyway. Have I sold a record and made a profit off of it? Absolutely. I'd be lying if I said I haven't. What I've never done, though, is turn around and sell a record mere weeks after obtaining it. Everything I've sold has been in my collection for a good amount of time, and a lot of my "profitable" sales have been after careful consideration and much reluctance. But what can I say? To each his own, I guess. Do what you want. But don't sit there and play off flipping as "basic economics" (Jesus. Really?) And fuck off for implying that the rest of us - those who don't flip - don't have bills and financial burdens of our own. Unbelievable.

    Numark TTUSB for $50?

This! I had that table and it was pure garbage. First impression is how light it is, seriously a 1 hander. I was wondering why the sound was all wonky every time I played it. Took out my trusty scale and every time I weighed the stylus it would be different, 2 grams, 5 grams, 7 grams, back to 3, etc. Returned it 2 days after I bought it. Plus it doesn't even come with a dust cover!! Was a good learning experience, I'm glad it was pure shit or else I wouldn't have upgraded to a real TT, or at least not as soon. 50 bucks can get you MUCH better in the used/vintage market.

  31. I guess I'm the only one that does have a problem with SRC then, from the fact that they don't communicate with the bands whose albums they license (see Hum) to the fact that they somehow get stock of Record Store Day releases every year and put them up for sale online on Record Store Day, to the fact that they sold copies of their TDAGARIM variant on Amazon for $10 extra after they "sold out", to the fact that they put up preorders for albums before labels even announce releases just so they can be the first in line to take your money (several labels have called them on this), to the whole SRC subscription deal from earlier this year where in exchange for paying well above regular price for a bundle of 6 or so unrelated releases, you got some assorted trivial bullshit like 24 hour exclusive access to preorders and a fucking obi strip. They're in it for the money, mining the music underground for its vast deposits of weak-willed nerds who care more about getting their high school CD collection on vinyl than they do about who's behind it all and what their ethics are.

  32. Don't know why anyone would ever commit to blindly purchasing 14, or even 7, releases from a "label" that just licenses random albums.

  33. Following the transition from Asbestos Death to Sleep at the time there was really very little in the landscape that sounded anything like what Sleep was doing when Holy Mountain came out. The fact that it come out on Earache was a whole other mindfuck only equaled by Lee Dorian moving from Napalm Death to Cathedral. I listened to Sabbath and the Melvins and Neurosis but had never heard of Pentagram, the Obsesses were a band in legend only, I did not care for St Vitus at the time, and Cathedral never did much for me. The Stoner/Doom stuff as a genre was nascent. If you were into metal and hardcore it was still all about speed. As the years went on there was Fu Manchu, Kyuss, Noothgrush, 16, all the bands that Kozik introduced to the world with Man's Ruin, etc but Sleep stood out with Holy Mountain, that was the template for modern Stoner Metal. To my mind it hardly gets better than Dragonaut. As the years went on and the legend grew we would read in magazines that they had a major label deal, blew all their money on weed, recorded an hour long album that would never be released, etc. But we had Holy Mountain because nothing else scratched the itch quite the same way. Songs about weed, dragons, druids, and outer space coupled with pummeling riffs. At least until Jerusalem finally saw the light of day in 1998. I haven't smoked weed in years and I still love Sleep. I have two tattoos that reference bands, one is Sleep, one is Black Sabbath, and I don't regret either of them. I honestly don't understand how someone could NOT love Holy Mountain if they like heavy music.

    Shit on bands here

I hear this song everywhere and it makes me want to punch things. I hate how most Top 40 hits are simply based on ear worming to make them popular. While I don't pay much attention to what is popular, I am enough places to have it get stuck in my head and hate every moment of it.
