  1. I'm not a fan of becoming involved in discussions like these - but the culture of immediately dogpiling on someone after they say something insensitive is a little annoying. Often people like Mike have very different intentions than what their text may convey to other people. I don't condone any of the deplorable misogynistic remarks many people make, and I'm not jumping to defend Kinsella, but everyone really needs to step back and take a look at how everyone, especially the person who made the mistake, is reacting. Considering how soon Mike retracted the tweet and made ground to apologise, I don't think his intentions were anywhere near as dastardly as some might make them out to be. Twitter is harsh and the world of immediate black-and-white "you're either perfect or you're terrible" is an awful mindset to have. I am in no way trying to defend the actual, real, disturbing culture of misogyny - correcting him is a logical, good, reasonable step to do - I'm just asking people to not immediately go "well, he's terrible, I hate him now" off of one instance that very likely may have been a slipup in speech. There's a very good TED talk about this. I would recommend watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAIP6fI0NAI tl;dr: what he said was wrong, it was a bit shocking; but intentions are never clear especially on the internet: considering his reaction towards his fans, and his response to the situation, I would sit back and try not to immediately assume the worst of him. Correct the statement, explain why it was wrong, but don't demonise him off of one thing - we're all human beings.

  3. It's 2016. EVERYTHING is worth getting in an uproar about. In fact, I find the term "uproar" to be insensitive to lions, tigers, and bears.

  9. Important bump. After revisiting this record today, I'm both pleased and disgusted that even after half a year, I can't hear Phantom Bride without picturing that fucking goober vape his heart out on Instagram. Sometimes I hate this board.

  10. I was quite ticked off because I ordered X&Y off amazon and it came super badly warped and wouldn't even play properly. Just got a replacement in and it's even worse than the first one that came. Wanted to find out if there were other pressings but instead found this page on Sterling's website (It's a mastering studio) which says X&Y was mastered for vinyl there in 2016. http://sterling-sound.com/albums/x-y-vinyl-mastering/ Wonder if that means there's a new remastered version coming out this year or the next! Or it could well be just a typo..

  12. After listening to the mix on CD all the way through this weekend, and just finishing up a quick A/B of the new 1LP remix to the MOV, here are my observations: -MOV cut is louder. No surprise as its spread across three sides. -New mix has reverb removed or lessened from Chris' vocals. Levels are adjusted so vocals and drums aren't as prominent. They are very up front in the original mix. -Guitar and bass parts are clearer and more even in the new mix, giving it a fuller, more fleshed out feel. -Overall the new mix sounds a lot less slick. I really like the new mix. I think its an improvement. It's adds an intimacy that was hidden in the original colder, shinier mix. That's not to say the original is bad. Not at all. It was a tribute to Andy, and the stark, slick, cold mix fits the record, and the time it was originally released. I definitely recommend this to fans of the record. Sound quality is good, record cut is good.

  13. Nabbed the tour color when I saw them this past weekend in Tampa. They were amazing live...as well as the other bands on the bill. With all that I've has going on lately in my personal life, I couldn't help but get emotional and broken down I cried during "No Rest For The Weary"...older song but it hit me hard. I was only able to secure an extra copy for my buddy Chuck who couldn't hit the show as his son was sick.

  16. It wasn't exploitation and it wasn't a loophole. It's amazing how you can spin a story based on 3 pages of a thousand plus page tax return. Her people are foaming at the mouths trying to make him look bad for this. His people are calling him a genius. It's amazing. The truth is, especially in real estate, you have periods of loss and periods of gain. That's why you look at several years of financial statements when making decisions, not a tiny fraction of one. If I invest a million dollars of my own money to open a record store, and it fails, the government will cover my ass by allowing me to not pay income taxes for a few years. The amount of years is determined by how much I lost. It's a good practice. You can even apply this to personal losses in the stock market. Good to know right? We can thank Trump for helping us learn something valuable about finances today. You raise a really good point about his morality and ethics. There has been an interest in a business type running for President in almost every election cycle. The guy is his own worst enemy. He has trouble forming his thoughts into clear and coherent sentences plus he has no filter. The people running the RNC must be shitting their pants every time he opens his mouth. Does Clinton have the moral character to lead the Country? It always comes down to the lesser of two evils. This election is no different in that way.

  22. It's not really exploiting anything. Look at what happened. Trump claimed a nearly 1 billion dollar loss in 95. Under the tax law, anyone who lost that much money was exempt from paying income taxes for a certain amount of years. Why on Earth would you not take advantage of that? You would have to be a complete idiot. Do the Clinton's pay more in income taxes than they are legally required? Does anyone? I don't think so, so why should Donald Trump? A lot of people may not remember but the Clinton's tried their hand in real estate once. It was called the Whitewater Development Corp and it was an epic disaster.

  24. Oct. 14th release? Whaaaat? Regarding the thread, I'll change the title to indicate this is the place for any ST-related discussion. Because once the box set with both volumes comes, people would be all over the place.

  25. i mean, he keeps bitching about the national debt, paying his taxes would have at least put payments towards the interest of it. he also loves this countries vets (as we all should) but paying those taxes sure would have helped them out when they get their benefits. if there are loop holes and he legally avoided doing them then its whatever. but i dont see anyone being a winner with verbal support and nothing else. the gov't will do whatever they want with whoever is in office.

  26. Federal and state income tax is theft. There are many other types of taxes the government collects. Most are bullshit. Many you could argue are fair and maybe even necessary. People fundamentally disagree with the concept of a large federal government. Huge taxes on every dollar that is passed back and forth just inflates this huge terrible beast that nobody wanted in the first place. We want to reduce taxes thus reduce the size of the government. Amazon and UPS will maintain the roads if they want to keep selling people stupid shit all day long. Freedom isn't free but it only cost a $1.05

  31. This does not apply to tax returns as they are protected differently than illegally obtained phone conversations. Let's assume the NYT tries to cite this case anyway. Are the contents of Donald Trump's taxes a matter of public concern? That is highly debatable. They'll need to prove by releasing his taxes against his will, there was a significant benefit to the public that outweighed Trump's privacy. That may sound easy, but they will need to provide actual facts and hard evidence not speculation. This https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/7213 plainly states it is a felony for any person to publish someones tax returns in any manner without their consent. NYT isn't denying that it was illegal. Someone from the paper said a week ago they would risk jail time to publish his tax returns.

  32. These dudes will typically get it in, and if you haven't ordered from them before, you get free shipping. http://www.musicrecordshop.com/ I usually watch the Amazon 3rd party sellers because the UK guys start competing with the US guys pricing and still offer $4 shipping. But it does take like 3 weeks to come in.

Guess there will be another thread for this at some point but Amazon (UK) have a pre-order up (£39?!?!) for the Vol. 2 vinyl: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KA4MVFM/ edit: just noticed that Amazon has Vol. 2 listed as being released before Vol. 1?!

  39. Hey everyone! My name is Ryan. I'm 26 and currently in my last year of Optometry school. I live in the suburbs of Philly even though I don't like the city that much. I love almost all kinds of music with my favorite genres being 90s emo, black metal, and 90s indie/alt rock. I have a full Snowing collection and am working on a full Kinsella brothers collection trying to get one of everything by any band related to them (i.e. Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, Make Believe, Owen etc.) Some of my favorite bands are Cap'n Jazz, American Football, Snowing, Saves the Day, Bosse de Nage, Descendents, Weatherbox, Death, Krallice, Pearl Jam, The Promise Ring, Aphex Twin, Morrissey/The Smiths, Algernon Cadwallader, Japandroids, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, King Diamond, Liars, Owen, Radiohead, Sun Kil Moon/Mark Kozelek, Xiu Xiu. My favorite labels currently are The Flenser, Gilead Media, and Profound Lore. I'm also really in horror movies and horror related things. I love 80s horror movies the best, sometimes the cheesier the better. I love to read as well and my favorite authors are Mark Z Danielewski, Ernest Hemingway, and Phillip K Dick. I enjoy comics as well especially ones by Image such as Saga, Sex Criminals, and Paper Girls. I'm a big coffee fan as well and am always looking for new coffees to try! Here's my tradelist, which should be mostly up to date. I added a general wantlist near the top for stuff I'm currently looking for as well! Tradelist: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18N9PQqcijQ9zcHGIPWjsUzbOFJocztDUY-14uXHn0h0/edit?usp=sharing Thanks!

  41. Just me & B-dosia paying attention to the real hip-hop as usual. Just scored a black. Fucking love this album. "Miami Life" belongs on any Best of 90's Hip-Hop mix, and Ras is easily the most underappreciated lyricist of the last 30 years in any genre.
