  1. random story time... i've seen TA three times before, opening for other bands (circa survive and envy). always thought they were good and admired their energy, but never really listened to any of their recordings. my wife and i ran into jeremy and clayton outside of a local record shop (Vinal Edge) before the show tonight--we were across the street getting coffee, and i thought i recognized jeremy from a distance... walked over and sure enough... i asked 'em what time they were going on because we were running a little behind. they were supposed to go on in about an hour and asked if we could give them a ride to the venue because Uber rides were like 30 bucks (there was an Astros game and I think maybe a Rockets game too going on at around the same time). we had to move carseats, but it was no problem. SUPER nice guys. it was a lot of fun talking to them during the ~15 minute drive to the venue. when we got there, they got our names and told us that their manager/merch guy would hook us up. boy did he... they put on a killer show!! and i can't wait to give these a spin.

  2. Woke up with a hangover and a $170 charge on my card to the NIN web store. Pretty excited for The Fragile and Downward Spiral. Not sure what possessed me to throw in The Fragile Deviations 1 4xLP...

  3. In the beginning Gumbo, you were over the top, but seemed sincere to me anyways in your passion for THE genre. Felt sorry for you had that string of "bad luck" (my worst was 3 in a row, but now on a 2 1/2 year + streak) with shipping incidents, scratched/damaged records, misrepresented/overpriced records from overseas, etc. etc So you got SA Kickstarter pack for less than 1/2 price, a free PSOTY shirt, Te' 3xLP (with pictures, priced for the jacket dings from Denovali, etc). Offered you an Aussewelt /100 at LOW price since your copy was marred, and then you played the "I'm poor" card. You should have said, No thanks, changed my mind, or "simply fine with my imperfect record" vs. I'm outta work, etc. All the while, you're starting PO threads for pet bands $, spearheading group buys $, jet-setting across the pond to festivals!, etc. And continuing to wax eloquent And recommend bands "new discoveries" that 90% of already know about That's why I suggested you start a blog or go write for Pitchfork, instead of hijacking this thread, really.... this whole site. No ill to you dude, people have tried every which way to get through to you and you still don't get it. I had forgotten Evan's quote of yours above re: "playing the troll" BS. Here's your latest shipping gripe/mishap for those who don't have the privilege of enjoyment. Literally 1 hr before I had mentioned you were on FB and didn't know you had posted this gem. And for the record it was /100 that Dan on Cavity Records put up with no hoopla and they sat there FOR A YEAR. FB had started charging bands to post there, so they wouldn't advertise it until they needed money for a tour. Once they posted the link (I had emailed Armine and Matt W about doing it for the $6 FB fee months before), they sold out in hours. $60 from overseas -good for you - from your 'early post-rock collecting days.' OK, this blog belongs to you, meet the rest of you at the usual place until things get back to normal here.

  5. Man....I do not like this album. its so one-note. I feel like it goes nowhere.

  6. Its a strong compilation from start to finish. Also there are exclusive tracks to this as well (Smashing Pumpkins and PJ). Those tracks weren't anywhere else but here and unless you want to shell out for Rearviewmirror, its the only place to get them on vinyl. To call it baby's first grunge comp is a bit dismissive. Many people see this as the definitive snap shot of those first years of Alternative rock.

  7. Counterpoint to the guy bitching: Until DD, you basically paid $4-6 a month (vs. $25-29 a month) and you had the option of buying every single AOTM up to this point... albeit a month late, but with the added bonus that you could pass on any album you didn't care about. DD was the first time your plan backfired on you, but let's not pretend you weren't getting the better end of the deal for the last couple years.

  11. There's probably only 10 people here who know who Rick Wakeman is - but you never know - there might be someone who is keeping up with his solo stuff. Discogs is your friend. $13.99 sealed

  12. Thanks for the heads up! Still can't afford it right now (could barely afford the misprint price, hahah), but I showed a close friend the link today and hinted for my bday. they acted like they might get me that... even if not, I can buy it by next month if it sticks around that price

  13. Figured someone might find use of this. The Guest RSD 2xLP on purple is on amazon UK for £10.39. Comes to under $20 shipped to US and around $15 shipped to most of EU.

  15. Many people have already preordered this thru Amazon for the black version for at least two months. There were no variants on this until just a few days ago when NC announced their variant. But before that there were rumors for years already that this was coming to Vinyl.

  19. I know this comes across as a cheesy gimmick, but I actually think this is a fine idea. For now, I'm very behind this. I mean, the Warner Music catalog goes deep. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Warner_Music_Group_labels Without digging into each sub-label's catalog, I'd be willing to bet that there's probably between 20-50 "must have" releases somewhere in there for any given user on this board. There's so much stuff that either hasn't had a vinyl pressing for a long while, or has never been pressed on vinyl at all. Here's an example of mine: Harvey Danger-King James Version which was released by Sire which is owned by Warner. Another example: the catalog of The Corrs (don't savage me on this-it's really well done pop music), all of which were released on 143, Lava, Atlantic, Eastwest, or Atlantic (depending on the territory), all of which are Warner labels. If there's even a chance that any of these get pressed, I'm all for this concept. I'm probably going to put down for Secret Machines. I somehow completely missed the boat on these guys the first time around but this thread diverted my attention to them. I checked the album in question on YouTube and it's right up my alley. I think this could be a good concept overall, provided the pricing doesn't get out of hand.

  20. Got mine via Eihwaz. Appears to be sold out via the band. Eihwaz and Bindrune both still have them, as of this writing. I was on high alert for this, as Marty Worm did give me the heads up that this was imminent and that the limitation would be extreme when I was chatting with him about something else. I own everything Bindrune and Eihwaz have released to date, so there's no way I'd miss this too. They've only put out a small handful of releases I didn't care for, but everything else these labels have put out are of the utmost quality. Plus, the pedigree of the members involved (members of Nechochwen, Unwlling Flesh, Obsequaie, Infirmary) pretty much guarantees excellence. These label's releases are pretty much the only things I buy on CD these days.

  22. Pre-orders for COMITY' upcoming 2xLP/CD "A Long, Eternal Fall" are now up at www.deathwishinc.eu/throatruiner (Europe) and http://translationlossrecords.bigcartel.com/ (North America). The record comes on limited royal blue/white A side/bside vinyl or black vinyl. The record will be out May 26th via Throatruiner Records and Translation Loss Records. Stream their new track "IV" via Metal Injection here. "Despite releasing forward-thinking records that have pushed the boundaries of noisy, technical hardcore, Parisian band COMITY has remained one of France's best kept secret since their formation 20 years ago. The band entered the studio during fall 2016 with producer Fred Rochette to track "A Long, Eternal Fall", their fourth album. These eight tracks are the band's most definitive musical statement to date, more extreme than the grinding madness of their early days and more massive than the aerial, post-metal leanings of their two previous release, showcasing their love for all things dissonant." 34. I wouldn't say they've been "reserving stock" of previous AOTMs for crate subscribers (or full subscribers who wanted a second copy), it's just that for previous AOTMs the supply (amount VMP pressed) has always exceeded the demand from full subscribers, so there were always some copies left over for crate subscribers. With DD, the demand from full subscribers for the AOTM exceeded the supply. EDIT: The original reason for the crate subscription was to guarantee non-full members access to the member store, not guarantee access to previous AOTMs.

  38. It's because you've completely highjacked a thread I started years ago into your personal complaints about every corner ding, scratch, missed Discogs email, shipping issue, & how literally 9 out of every 10 songs you listened to can be "improved upon". I think Mr Grohl laid out the issues pretty clearly a page or two back. And then you inject all your personal problems into half your posts. That shit never happened here prior to you. I'm sorry but that's what that Small Talk thread is for. I come here to get away from that stuff. You've sucked the joy out of this thread for me.

So you lied about who you are? Because you simply stated in the first post that YOU were Tyson Platt, Associate Professor of Psychology at the Alabama State University. 40. To be fair, you have gotten a bit better compared to when you first joined some time ago. I still think your overzealousness can get pretty exhausting to keep up with, and I'm torn between whether I find your personal critiquing of music and bands more amusing or annoying. I guess it sort of depends on my mood. But really, you have to ask yourself; if an entire community of level-headed individuals all sort of give you flack for more than a year, in individual cases, over various topics... are all of those people just being bullies / edgy / pouncing? Or is there maybe a little fire with all that smoke?

  44. Cracking into a bottle of Four Roses single barrel tonight. Never disappoints. Gotta say I'm still enjoying the heck out of that 1792 Full Proof though. Had a buddy over the other night and we drank some of that and some Blanton's and it beat the pants off of the Blanton's in taste (in my opinion).
