  2. The “what happened to RFC/Topshelf?!?” comments are always pretty hilarious. I hear Pure Noise and No Sleep are still catering to pop punk “kids” and they’d love your business.

  3. Hell yeah bring back cookie cutter bands. I'm so sick of bands not having 98% of their style and output identical to what I already like.

  4. Fools will defend 'em but you're right. They lost their teeth. The last time I saw them was opening for Thrice on their To Be Everywhere tour and it was so fucking lifeless and disappointing. Even the one (maybe two?) old sons they played were completely sapped of energy. King Park was a shell of what it was when I used to see them on the heels of Wildlife being released... and that's not even mentioning the tiny, 75-cap venues they were playing in the Vancouver and River days... Those were some of the best fucking shows ever. When you play King Park live and it has no soul, something has gone terribly, terribly wrong. I like the new songs more than anything on Rooms, but short of the Woman tracks, that's not saying much. But hey, at least this song has basically the same drum patterns as woman, right?...Right?

  5. HA! Love that comparison. Really do recommend the Max Payne 3 OST if you just want instrumentals. That OST bangs and is criminal there's no vinyl of that.

  8. I am, which is how most people hear it. The vinyl version is definitely more listenable thanks to Bellman. The digital version has dynamic range of 4, which is lunacy, while the vinyl is 10.

  9. Just got mine as well. This release deserves an “A” for “Absolurely No Fucks Given.” On the bright side it looks like mine was signed by Kendrick Lamar.

  10. Was intrigued because of the discussion in here. Trying to ration money but having listened to the two singles and a bit of the album that preceded this upcoming one these guys are now on my radar. This album isn't on the RFC UK site yet but if it drops there I may grab it.

  13. this record is intense and very noisy and exactly the opposite of the last release as for RFC not being good anymore - I think they've never been better especially since they are branching out from the pop punk emo sound. This record is cool, the Wicca Phase record is dope as hell, and the upcoming Field Medic record is one of the best I've heard in 2019

  14. I think it says a lot about RFC to venture out and sign acts of various genres and take chances with their roster vs. signing bands that sound exactly the same or like whatever sound is most likely to move units. Also - this new track is great. Ordered.

  17. They used to be my favorite band. I saw them a lot up through the release tour for Rooms of the House and you could tell everything went to Jordan's head. The last time I saw them full band it was a terrible performance and his ego was too much. I'm not surprised at all they got lazy on this one. Everything so far sounds like leftover ROTH material. I guess most people don't see that?

  18. Topshelf toyed around with the idea of a Weatherboxset before I worked there. Doubt it will ever happen. For those of you that live anywhere close to NY, I’d suggest going to this show. The SD New Years Eve show was amazing, and not nearly enough people came out. Think they’re hoping for a tour that might not ever happen, or at least not anytime soon.

  20. @ Derek (Gumbo was right you can’t be found when trying to tag lol) Just finished Death Magic again & it definitely stuck with me more this time around. The opener bangs like Vol 4 but there is good stuff all up & down the album. I actually really dug the last 2 songs. As you said, more of a poppy vibe but it sounds great to finish it off. One thing I’m having a hard time adjusting to in general is how much the singer reminds me of Chadwick from Hundredth’s “nugaze” voice. He’s all I can think of haha. But yeah I’ll have to keep digging backwards into this band. It’s a nice departure from most of what I listen to, although I’ve been into more “noise” lately. But HEALTH is definitely more than just “noise”.

  21. I’m almost done with Claire B and man, it’s way different. Mr. X shows up within like 40 minutes, and he follows you into most of the rooms that don’t have typewriters. Same with lickers. I thought it was a lot harder for the first few hours, but I just got the ‘nade launcher so it’s plateaued a bit.

  23. I'd try it again. There are some slow burners that I appreciate some days more than others, but it has some gems too. Salvia is such a sweet interlude and never fails to get me hyped. Really showcases just how visceral the live drums are in their sound – I think I would ultimately enjoy this band a lot less if they used triggers instead. Flesh World (UK) is a straight up club jam with some skittish, gritty production... but I can't deny how infectious that chorus is. A lot of the borderline-commercial-ready pop tracks in the back half are refreshing, if not a little jarring for the first few listens. Oh, and I'll always have a soft spot for New Coke, simply because it (and its respective "drop") made me pay a little more attention to this band and follow their releases. It also features a music video with a finale that's equal parts disgusting and mesmerizing, if that's something you'd be interested in. And on the subject of unsettling HEALTH music videos, I may as well mention this one. I don't know if you've backtracked further than Death Magic, but this was the song that got me into their critically acclaimed "best album", Get Color. Definitely not work appropriate so I'm going to toss it in a spoiler tag.

  26. This is exactly why I could never hang around too long on VMP. The general attitude is really weird to me. People who seemingly had limitless disposable income would blind buy several records a day just because the variant was cool, and half of those people wouldn't even listen to the albums. During the whole Gatefoldgate thing I remember telling someone something to the effect of "the point of vinyl isn't the A E S T H E T I C" and people started getting on my case about it cuz they liked to frame their vynilses.

  31. Someone with more insight and exposure to the VMP community can correct me if I’m wrong, but VMP’s forums feel like bizarro world to me. The little lurking I’ve done - on several occasions - suggested that there is a disgusting amount of bandwagon that occurs over there. I’ve seen several posts in various threads where someone is either saying “damn that variant is SICK and I absolutely need it because of how limited it is and how cool it’ll look on my shelf. Someone link me to these guys’ top 3 songs”. Or even “ahh fuck it, you guys are hyped for this thing and I love the album art so I ordered. Guess I gotta’ check it out on Spotify now.” I don’t know, it’s just really abstract to me. Lots of high-fiving and people who’ve never heard of X artist who is featured as ROTM, but are now instantly dropping $120 on their discography that VMP has restocked. Anyone else feel like it’s just a nesting ground for bearded dudes in their 30s to talk about alcohol and provide one another with musical outlets to burn surplus income? Because that’s the vibe I get and it’s just not for me. Any sort of negative opinion seems to be met with little or no tolerance, too, which is pretty lame. It all comes off as feeling way too hivemind-y from the bit of lurking I’ve done, personally. I’d rather stay on the slower, barbaric board if it means avoiding that. There is some established mob mentality here, and a bit of VC-core, but it beats trying to fit in by larping as one uniform middle aged hipster.

God dammit... okay who wants to go back to Mordor with me? And NO GONDOR PRINCES THIS TIME, they're too tempted to subscribe and have all the VNYLs for themselves.
