    My vinyl "investment"

this guy has it all wrong. you don't buy records for an investment... you buy them so some other geek can't have it, and then you post pictures on the internet of it to mock them for not having it.

  4. Hey, guys. Things are really hard for me right now. My girlfriend of 12 years and the mother of my two kids decided that she wanted to separate a week ago. It would mean a lot if you looked at some of my stuff off of my tradelist because I am trying to sell up to $1500 worth of records. Hopefully, some of you guys are interested with some of the more rare stuff that I have. Please send me fair offers because I haven't needed money like this ever in my life. I am staying at my buddy's and need to afford a place and a cash car on my own. I appreciate you guys so much. Thanks. https://deadformat.n...tetsuodaironman

hey guys this is cory from the video thanks for "getting" what i was doing lol. thats def pics of nick alt on the wall of his own store wtf. the cultish vibes in there are palpable. nick was actually there but he RAN in the back of the store when i walked in (thats why i ask whats back there). the #dinnerparty rack was so dire. fucking helen reddy's greatest hits for $12 and a fucking walter murphy ("this guy does the theme to family guy!") for $15 or something... the other nice woman working at the store was srsly bummed after i asked about the lack of metal and proceeded to punish by listing all these doorcore bands she was into (shes a huge sleep fan btw). she also mentioned that they poached her from southern lord. i asked if vynl was taking care of her and she gave me an enthusiastic "yes!" i can't hate. sorry for the shitty video i was trying to be discreet jeeze.

  6. I hate that mentality. "Hot Topic ruined it." Then you must've liked it for the wrong reasons. A good movie is a good movie. Who cares who likes it?

  7. Last week, I went to the grocery store and used some coupons. Then I grabbed a jawbreaker from the coin-operated machines on my way out. Later, I cooked and ate a dinner. It was some solid sustenance.

  8. "Do you have more than 16 records for sale?" "Well, don't hatch those chickens yet...cause right over here...we have our Instagram wall with this cool neon sign that says 'Records are my bae'...and people have been snapping pics there a lot...and next to that is this freshly vibe'd copy of tUNeYaRdZ. Think African tribal beats meets #cooking...it's $26."

This is what money does to hobbies. Instead of seeing the joy in it people see the financial gain/loss in it. Just enjoy the music/records/art for crying out loud.

  20. One of the challenges of design criticism is that it takes some background in the discipline to articulate the negatives. Someone may not be able to cite design principles to explain why a piece feels off, but they can still feel it. The same is true of great work. It's why art appeals to an audience broader then the artists. I think it is commendable to stand by your designer, especially if you're happy with the work. Or if you just enjoy the collaboration. You seem to have no problem selling product so the strength of design is sort of moot at this point, but I think the criticism is fair, even if it hasn't been particularly constructive. My two cents. I don't really think anyone would have a probably with large sprite artwork, but, to my eye, the proportion is off here. The size of the sprite within the borders is too large, which creates an uncomfortable tension with the "subject" and the other elements. Also, The red swash at the top, behind the letters, has a strong downward movement. The sprite itself has a strong rightward movement. My eye doesn't really know where to settle. Speaking of the red, that is the only use of it, which is a little weird given the attempt at top-bottom symmetry with your background elements. These are some of the reasons, off the top of my head, that the composition just doesn't feel quite right to me. Most of the elements seem to be competing in some way, not in harmony. I think it is a perfectly fine choice to want to utilize or incorporate original asserts or artwork. It can be a challenge to work around when they aren't strong, like the Megaman logo here, but I think it can be done effectively. It's a brand choice and it is yours to make. Again, since you're selling through you could make an argument that none of this matters. At least not short-term. Anyway, I guess what I am saying is you can add me to the list of people pushing for stronger design.

  21. So the guy who runs the HUM Facebook page mentioned the band wanted to have full control over it. The band also just created an official Instagram (@Hummusic). So it seems like they're gearing up for something. Hopefully it's a new record! https://www.facebook.com/HUMunofficial/posts/10152967887193697

  23. I used to pay for sex, but then I realized if I ran out on the prostitute while she was in the bathroom, I could get a good collection of orgasms for relatively low outlay. Sure, I figure some day the pimps will catch up with me, but my collection of erections has had a hell of a year!

  26. This has nothing to do with "re-imagining iconography," the design looks terrible aesthetically and from a design perspective. I'm not saying this to be rude or combative, but you're working on a product that I care a lot about and it looks like a cheap Korean bookbag. You can do a lot of cool things with pixel-art, but taking something made with a few hundred pixels and blowing it up to take up 90% of the cover is an objectively horrible idea. If you honestly say you "stand by your work" then I would seriously consider hiring someone with a better eye for graphic design, because "your work" is not good enough.

  30. I will definitely buy this. Was just talking to my lady the other day about how we wish more 90s alt records were getting repressed. I need Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Wallflowers, Sister Hazel, Marcy Playground, Better Than Ezra, Gin Blossoms, etc. At least Barenaked Ladies' Stunt got a release about a month ago via MOV. Need to grab that.

    ATTN: Vinyl Elitists

On topic: For me it's all about signal path and sound quality. So pressing digital music on an analog medium is silly. Pressing old pop-punk albums sucks because the recordings are usually sub-par to begin with and the labels pressing them don't put money into properly remixing or remastering them for the format appropriately (Thrice -- Artist In The Ambulance is a brilliant example). Pressing video game music is sincerely fucking wacky to me....8-16 bit digital bleeps and bloops pressed to an analog format....how many spins does shit like that get from the consumer? This isn't a hobby to me, this is a preferred format for listening to music that I love. I don't have great taste in music and I won't pretend to. I also happen to hate Sound Tracks (corporate mixtapes is what I call them). When major labels have money to throw around and press or repress bullshit releases from their back catalog with super shitty packaging and put really really high price tags on it and it has a negative impact (influencing the over-arching pricing scale for ALL releases) it happens to really really piss me off (currently dealing with this issue at work right now). They're also clogging up the pressing plants with this crap which ends up pushing quality releases further back in the cue. I can't wait for this whole damned thing to die back down so I can get decent music at a decent price on a format I prefer. Sincerely, Christopher Lynn Birdwell
