  1. Yep, I remember the comic book insanity. They kept pushing out inferior product with many variants riding on the fear of "missing out" by collectors. Resale prices inflated. One day people realized that that pointless variant of an obscure soundtrack Lady Death comic wasn't worth much of anything. I see happy days ahead for collectors' record portfolios.

  2. Bubbles and collapses can absolutely happen within niches and subcultures without the larger culture ever noticing. I'm sure most people aren't aware of the comic book crash of the mid-90s, and yet it had an inescapable effect on comics.

  3. Sorry for being a post-whore but I just confirmed a trip on a very doomed boat along the coast of Sweden with Electric fucking Wizard headlining. Was set on not going but was lucky to find some last minute tickets from dudes who'd bought early and it will be a two day marathon with the free afterparty including Spelljammer. I'm losing it. Also, if for any of you die-hard Monolord fans, they'll be selling a sick print there that I might grab if any of you are super keen on it.

  4. The silver vinyl is available at Amoeba, by the way. https://www.amoeba.com/slowdive-silver-vinyl-lp-slowdive/albums/3927451/ The current Music On Vinyl pressing of it is fantastic.

  7. As long as people are continuing to purchase vinyl for the purpose of listening rather than the purpose of collecting, I believe there'll be no bubble to burst. But if folks are only buying them as an investment, there will be a bubble to burst.

  8. Saw them last night in Pittsburgh and they were amazing. They put on such a solid and emotional set. Grabbed me a peach copy as well.

  9. I'm already looking forward to their third album Piglet. I heard it comes on Winnie The Pooh yellow/red swirl with heavy honey splatter. Also, selling my Goya Die Hard, enamel pin and all, if anyone's interested?

    MAN ADVICE v2.0

You're a good man Gumbo. GOTCHA on the other hand.... A guy who can be this much of an asshole on the internet can no way be a standup guy to his girl in real life. My bet is she has no idea of this Internet persona and would be appalled by this behavior if she ever found it. Living an alter ego out online and acting another way in real life is not healthy and will manifest itself in his relationship soon enough. I sincerely hope you stop this and go spend your time learning and loving your wife/girlfriend instead.

    Why vinyl?

I figure all money I spend on records is penance for the albums I pirated when I was younger.

  20. The part of me that nerds out over the most limited variant is the (your quotes) "hobby" in me. Take that out of the equation and rekkids is how I enjoy listening to music. So the only way a burst affects me is if it shuts down pressing plants. Actually, if the bubble bursts, we'll probably get better music, since pressing plants won't be choking on RSD bullshit.

  21. Just relistened to it, I remembered it being a lot slower... maybe to me I just was bored by it compared to Sugar for The Pill which is instantly likable IMO. either way, I look forward to the album as a whole and how the songs'll flow together.

  25. That's a good point. I guess it depends on the size of the bubble. For example, everyone knows about the Beanie Baby crash, to the point that it's become a pop culture reference.

  34. I go every other year, because mostly I end up spending way to much money. On average prices are a tad higher than on Discogs, but you will save on shipping. Also I often find stuff I never seen before and aren't listed on Discogs. Plus there are so many high ticket items to choose from, rare 70's Springsteen singles, they are there, Dischord, Revelation classic are for sale, booths filled with Japanse/South American/South Africa pressings. The list goes on. I do find a few good to very good deals if you take the time the whole day to search as much booths as possible, you just have to dig and be a bit lucky. 2nd press Bad Brains - Pay To Cum for 40 bucks. Green Day slappy EP on green for 10 bucks, which sold for 430 three days later. Quicksand - Slip LP for 5 bucks. Inside Out 7" on blue for 2 bucks. Ray and Porcell 7" out of 100 for 1 buck. A few of the ones that stood out for me.

    Why vinyl?

Why vinyl? Why, to listen to it of course! One night, I was half asleep thinking about how I wasn't supporting artists anymore because 95% of my music came on promo for review....so...that's when I realized I could break out that turntable that was given to me, and use that Crobot EP I accidentally bought, and start listening to vinyl records. As others have said, good speakers, good turntable and you'll get a wonderful experience. I liken it to home theater set ups in the 90's on VHS...some of those tapes sounded JUST like being in the theater, some sounded a little better, and some sounded the same. So, for sound quality, it's at worst a zero sum game, but my vinyl library is in ONE room and I have to go work to listen to it...not the shuffling I do with my iPhone the whole rest of the time.

    MAN ADVICE v2.0

So we're still running with that joke, huh? Nice. I do admire how you completely ignored cantdance's inquiry about your immaculate marriage. As much as I value your innovative and not-at-all uninspired """sick burns""", I really am curious to hear how content you are with your personal life. It must be a slice of heaven considering how much you enjoy lashing out at various members in threads, and just how bitter of a shitposting troglodyte you come off as, in general. How old are you? 40? And you're peddling Hot Topic records on eBay while preying on the hardships of complete strangers on the internet? I'm sorry that you genuinely fucked up in life and had to settle in every possibly regard, but there's no need to take that out on the boards. Please keep attacking me and cluttering up this thread. I would quite enjoy seeing you banned. Again.

  40. So I'm a sucker and part of the problem. I am the reason why Newbury Comics gets away with their bullshit. About a week and a half ago I stopped into one on my way home from work. And I found a copy of Newbury's exclusive The Strokes - Room on Fire. $49.99. And of course, I bought it because I was seeking that variant and it was the cheapest I was ever going to find it considering what it goes for on the secondary market. I asked the cashier why it was so marked up, and he said, "I don't know. We're just told to change the prices. But this is a really good price for this pressing." To which I replied, "It's unfair to hike prices of your exclusives just because of how its sales are behaving in the secondary market, but I'm the sucker that's falling for it so whatever." He just laughed. Anyway, I found something amusing when I took the shrink wrap off of the record. All of the price tags were placed on top of one another. Since the beginning of its sale back in 2015, the price had changed 9 times. There were 9 separate tags on the jacket, all on top of one another. I tried to peel them so I could get a picture to show the increase, but basically it went from $26.99 to $49.99 gradually. Usually when something sits on the shelf it goes down in price, right? Hits clearance maybe? So I'm done with Newbury. Will never support them again, and don't have to now that I've moved from rural Massachusetts to NYC. But I guess they got the last laugh. TL;DR I suck.
