  1. Wanna' know how I can tell you're really worth holding a conversation with? Your response to a well-constructed post [with plenty of valid points] is cool story. Dead giveaway. And also a concrete indicator that you can fuck off. If you've actually been buying vinyl for 20 years of your life and still feel like every single label and order owes you a 100% pristine copy, I feel legitimately embarrassed for you. You must be absolutely insufferable to be around in person, and I sincerely feel sorry for any coworkers, friends, or family that have to interact with you in public or on a regular basis. Just had a double LP show up about 20 minutes ago. Can't believe how shitty the packaging was, and how ruthless the post office handled it. Demanding a new copy or at least a replacement jacket, stat. I mean, it's absolutely perfect otherwise, but this is heinous and completely unacceptable when I'm paying for a brand new product.

  2. I'm honestly more surprised when a record I order online arrives in perfect condition. 9 times out of 10 there is some slight "defect" on the jacket that drives me nuts at first, but then I get over it because it has always happened AND WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN. If anyone is that concerned about damaged jackets, they may just have to stop ordering records online.

  4. Jesus Christ! Was there a tornado in the back of that USPS truck, or did they just take turns stomping on it?

  5. My favorite part of this comparison is when the USPS handles the car haphazardly in the mail. But I also like the part where we compare a $20 record to a $20,000 motor vehicle, too. But seriously; if you're just going to compare apples and oranges, it's probably in your best interest to sit this one out.

  6. I'll ding the corners on my own records. I don't give a fuck. SHELF WEAR LIFE, FAM. . Edit for an anecdote: I bought The Cure - Pornography off Amazon recently. It came packaged perfectly...but it still had a crushed corner. Like, pretty bad even for me. It clearly happened before it shipped. I immediately took pictures to send to Amazon. They're a giant company and its a massive pressing. They've got tons of copies and I've been a Prime customer for a decade god damn it. Put it on my turntable and after spinning it for a week realized "Oh...I never contacted Amazon. Well, whatever it plays great."

  9. Are you dense or just trolling? Fresh carton of milk ≠ spoiled carton of milk ≠ carton of milk with crushed corner. And there are various grades of things worth bitching about. Would you return a candy bar that someone broke in half, unbeknownst to yourself at the checkout line? Would you refuse to sign for a $20,000 car because it arrived with a small scuff on the left headlight, from a stray piece of gravel on the highway? That's entirely different than buying fruit that's spoiled, or having your car arrive with a busted windshield and loose locks on the back door. Seriously, stop and consider what you're writing. Or stop altogether. I think it will benefit you a great deal in this thread.

  10. Let me know when you all order a brand new vehicle and it shows up with a bunch of dings, dents, and scratches and you're just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  14. That bump is pretty minor and either you're going to have to live to deal with them or stop ordering records. Even the best packaging gets damaged, it just happens. Unfortunately, it's part of the hobby.

  15. You must not buy a lot of vinyl then, because corner dings like that are common as hell. Most records in stores have some general shelf wear like that as well, and you probably have never bought anything used than either right?

  16. Fowty Dollaz

    Baby Fowty Cent

So, I'm going to be a father in just a few weeks. It's my first time being a biological parent (I have an ex with a kid who's like 22 now...long story). Anyway, I'm genuinely seeking advice from millennial types like myself who know what it's like to be a parent for the first time. I don't really know what to expect. All I know is he's a male and he'll have a killer onesie collection (so far we have "Appetite for Destruction" GNR, Bowie, and Bob Marley-still working on some of the punk ones). So, hit me, what do you have for guidance, advice, etc?

  19. So due to some miscommunication – and also in part to living as far as humanly possible from Bull Moose – it looks like my spare blue copy is still up for grabs if anyone wants it. It showed up yesterday, finally, and the folks who initially PM'd me were all able to track down copies in the time it took to arrive. I've still left the box sealed in case no one is interested, and I end up having to return it. But I'd rather eat a dollar or two and just sell it now, instead of shipping it out and waiting a week and a half for a refund. So $40 PPD. That's pretty comparable to $35 + shipping on Discogs, or $37 and sales tax in store. Story of my week. I'm glad someone else can relate to the struggle... maybe one of us will luck out on Monday.

  25. I certainly wouldn't accept delivery without the issue being fixed---i.e., Sandbag should send replacement mailers and address their shipping issues, the first of which has already happened for a bunch of people on here with Deviations, including myself. My Before the Flood showed up perfect. The other records should too. There's no reason a company cannot get records to consumers in mint condition. They're brand fucking new.

  27. Alright yous guys and gals. I know some of you are just big kids like I am, so I'm making a recommendation. If you like Rick and Morty/Adventure Time type whimsical cartoons with adult humor...watch Gravity Falls. I hadn't watched it and I caught an episode the other day and binge watched the entire damn thing this week. So good. I always wrote it off because it was a Disney cartoon, but apparently the dude who made it is friends with the Rick and Morty folks and there are a bunch of Easter Eggs in both shows that refer to each other. Plus it's only two seasons, so it's a pretty quick watch.

  29. Holy crap... that's major damage right there.. :0 id be furious.. Yeah I guess just because I haven't been collecting that long so it bugs me out when I get dings or bends. I can't imagine receiving one that bad though. That is very big. My dad did get most of his in person over the years. Online, I'd say a couple hundred. I know he has gotten some used and they had dings and bent edges. But I've seen alot of his prestine albums that he got online that don't have any dings. But yes most of his aren't from online. So I can see how the mail system can ruin them. I just wish they were padded better. Such fragile items. I can't wait to get the other represses in the mail, it will be very exciting! Also can't wait to hear the rest of the new album in a week!

  30. I'd also bet your dad didn't purchase those records online and have them shipped across the country, obviously care should be taken when packaging but you gotta be realistic as well.

  31. Is the vinyl damaged? I'm a condition freak too, but that pic is not bad. Seriously. Suck it up, people returning shit for BS like that is what drive prices up. You say NIN is your favorite band, but you are just now buying Hesitation Marks? Hesitation Marks is available everywhere, just go exchange it at any local store if you must.

  32. The downward spiral is my favorite album of alltime. The shows I saw in that tour are the best concerts I ever attended. Anything after the fragile is hit or miss for me with the slip being the worst. His current vocal delivery is really annoying. I also think the current live drumming leaves alot to be desired with the sound

  37. With nearly 1 million monthly listeners and their song (being dropped less than a day ago) already being chosen to represent Team USA in the upcoming Olympics, yeah, people actually care about this band. Welcome to Vinyl Collective, where everyone wants to start something in order to feel validation. If you're not interested, why click on the post? This is here to inform anyone who may be interested and was previously unaware; not to shit on other people's taste in music.

  40. I'm aware that "soon" threads are typically frowned upon but this is Godspeed. Pre-orders should be up very soon from every outlet; Bull Moose, Amazon, Constellation, etc. If you know me and you've talked to me about music for any amount of time, I've probably raved once or twice about Godspeed being the most interesting band in the modern post-rock scene. Not only because their music is arguably timeless, but also because they have no regard for scheduled releases or agenda. In 2012, they debuted 'Allelujah by rolling it out on merch stands during a random performance, and allowed the internet to buzz and clamor before official announcements were made. And considering that they're always touring new material ahead of time, it has always been my belief that they're sitting on any given amount of unreleased music that they can drop overnight, or whenever they see fit. And that's exciting. September 22nd isn't all that far off; basically 2.5 months of waiting to finally hear the fully realized studio versions of songs we've been craving to have since 2015 or so. Still can't really believe it.

  43. I feel they have fallen completely off. Almost all of their newest records have been boring and forgetable. I was listening to "new album" the other day and got about 3 songs in and turned it off.

  44. Hey guys,Wanted to run a story by you guys and see if anybody had thoughts on what the problem might be and/or what my next step should be...I bought my original Pro-Ject Debut Carbon during the Christmas of 14'. It proceeded to treat me well and play perfectly for the next year and a half. I could play a record dozens of times without any noticeable ware(pop, clicks, ext) and the vast majority of my vinyl was dead silent.Last summer, I began to get a touch of sibilance during playback and so I replaced the stylus (which probably had 700-800 hours of wear on it). That's about the time that things went sour. Suddenly, records that I spun multiple times began to show signs of inner groove distortion and static/pops/ticks became frequent. Thinking that it must be a faulty stylus, I again swapped it out and then I stuck to playing the same 5 or so records so that I could monitor ware and tear. When it became clear that there was still a problem, I sent the table off to Sumiko Audio (the US distributor for Pro-Ject). They spent about 2 weeks working on the table and then sent it back my way claiming no problems. When I got the table back, there was a noticable pull on the tonearm via the anti-skate weight when trying to line the needle up for a drop. For example, if I lined the needle up with a song in the center of the record, there was a good chance the needle would drift a touch towards the outside of the record. I reported the problem to Sumiko but they implied such things were normal and suggested dropping the tracking force. Since the records were playing quietly again (minus the few that had been previously damaged), I ignored my intuition and went about playing all but my most expensive records. A couple weeks later, the pops, clicks and occasional distortion returned.I sent the turntable back a second time to Sumiko and they worked on it while I traveled abroad. When I received it back in February, Sumiko claimed that the cartridge had needed re-allignment (which they had done) and that my problems should be solved. However, sometime during their possession of the table (or during it's shipment to them), the table itself had gotten chipped up in several places (including the horn of the tonearm breaking off)-- something that they failed to tell me until the table was back in my possession. Furthermore, the noise returned to playback within a week or so of using the table... at which point, I demanded they give me a new turntable... because that's what they had promised to do if they couldn't solve the problem and because they had failed to properly report the damage to my table.Near the end of March I finally received that new table-- one that was clearly refurbished based on the way it was packaged. Since then I have been slowly going through my collection and seeing which vinyl was permanently damaged during this whole ordeal. For example, those 5 or so records that were on repeat when the problem initially surfaced are choke full of surface noise (much of which couldn't be heard on the old table) and will need to be replaced. However, the tricky part is that I am not completely convinced that the "new" table is tracking properly and so I have some questions.1) Certain records have been giving me distortion during highs and or lows. But that distortion is not consistent. For example, I was playing a QotSA album last night and one of the songs was distorting on the bass line. I played the song back 3-4 times and each time the distortion became less frequent. This morning it only happened twice over the course of the song (as opposed to the 10 or so times last night).2) I'm getting pops, clicks, ext on records that I was pretty certain I had left alone during this whole ordeal. Granted, it's been a whole year now so who knows how many records I played once or twice during the periods where I thought the table was fixed. But what confuses me is that the amount of noise I'm getting on these records completely varies during playback. It's always worse on the outer portion of the record and seems to lessen each time I play the record back (so similar to the situation described above). For example, I was playing Outkast's Aquemini last night and was getting a shit ton of surface noise on the beginning of side A. I played the opening songs 3-4 times and each time the surface noise grew fainter (though it's still there and seemingly permanent). These are records that used to be super quiet and, in many cases, have only been played a handful of times.Could it be that these records were damaged via the old table and this is just the needle re-orienting itself inside of a damaged groove? And with each playback the needle is retracing the proper path and so the noise lessens? Could it be that the cartridge on this reurbished table is old and needs to be replaced? (At this point I don't trust Sumiko what-so-ever). I've also moved since the initial problems started. And my new place is noticable dustier than the old spot. I've always kept my records clean and wiped them down with some solution and an old school dishwasher brush before playback... but perhaps the new spot requires an adjustment to this process? Do you guys have an anti-static brush you recommend? Any thoughts as to whether the acyrilic platter is a worthy upgrade?FYI I've used a scale to check the tracking force of the table and it's set at the proper 1.75g for the Red. I also have double checked that the platter is level.Sorry that this post is so long winded and thanks in advance for any responses
