PO: Wear Your Wounds - Live On BBC 12"
Deathbyart and 4 others reacted to jbannon for a topic
Thanks guys for posting. I finished up mastering the release over the Holidays. It's a special release for me. These songs took on a new life/vision while playing with the full band and it became important to me to document and release them in some way. I managed to work out a fair (albeit expensive) licensing deal w/ the BBC and here we are. A friend of Gunface's, Dáire Lynch, created the oil painting while listening to the "WYW" album as well. We all thought it was great and were honored to include it as the cover art. It's going to be a busy year, this is just the beginning. I'll try and post here more when able. Thanks people. -J.5 points -

Pre-order here: http://www.pwelverumandsun.com/store#mounteerie Now Only, written shortly following the release of A Crow Looked At Me and the first live performances of those songs, is a deeper exploration of that style of candid, undisguised lyrical writing. It portrays Elverum’s continuing immersion in the strange reality of Geneviève’s death, chronicling the evolution of his relationship to her and her memory, and of the effect the artistic exploration of his grief has had on his own life. The scope of Now Only encompasses not only hospitals and deathbeds, but also a music festival, childhood memories of conversations with Elverum’s mother, profound paintings and affecting artworks he encounters, a documentary about Jack Kerouac, and most significantly, memories of his life with Geneviève. These moments and thoughts resonate with each other, creating a more complex and nuanced picture of mourning and healing. The power of these songs comes not from the small, sharp moments of cutting phrases or shocks, but the echoes that weave the songs together, the way a life is woven. The music, fully realized by Elverum alone at home, is fleshed out texturally and seems to react to the words in real time. In a moment of confusion, dissonance abruptly makes itself known; in a moment of clarity, gentle piano arises. On the title track, the blunt declaration of “people get cancer and die” is subverted by a melody that can only be described as pop. As Elverum reinvents his lyrical process, he is also refining his musical vocabulary. Elverum’s life during the period he wrote Now Only was defined by the duality of existing with the praise and attention garnered by A Crow Looked At Me and the difficult reality of maintaining a house with a small child by himself, as well as working to preserve Geneviève’s artistic legacy. Consumed with the day to day of raising his daughter, Elverum felt his musical self was so distant that it seemed fictional. Stepping into the role of Phil Elverum of Mount Eerie held the promise of positive empathy and praise, but also the difficulty of inhabiting the intense grief that produced the music. These moments, both public and domestic, are chronicled in these songs. They are songs of remembrance, and songs about the idea of remembrance, about living on the cusp of the past and present and reluctantly witnessing a beloved person’s history take shape. Time continues. ELV041: NOW ONLY by Mount Eerie : LP + download (PRE-ORDER) release date: March 16th, 2018 A sequel or continuation down the path that began with “A Crow Looked At Me”. 6 word-filled songs about the raw strangeness of the present moment, waking up in wreckage, living with pervasive echoing real ghosts and a growing young child. Autobiographical. contains: 6 songs, 44 minutes, heavy old style gatefold tip-on jacket with special subtle blue paper on the inner liner sheet, all the lyrics, free download card 1. Tintin in Tibet (4:37) 2. Distortion (10:58) 3. Now Only (5:54) 4. Earth (5:52) 5. Two Paintings by Nikolai Astrup (9:22) 6. Crow, Pt. 2 (6:50)2 points

Here's what I watched over the last week Hatchet II - This was a real fun one and exactly what I wanted in a slasher. Not serious at all, great kills, tons of blood and enjoyable practical effects. Trying to get to the third one soon, want to be able to watch Victor Crowley when it's available. Moebius - Very strange film. I'd say it's a psychological thriller with a mild bit of body horror. It's completely dialogue free. Not an easy recommendation, but it's short and an interesting watch. Gerald's Game - I thought this was a pretty faithful adaptation of the novel. It was well done and I think he did a very good job translating the story into a movie. I didn't really care for the book overall (especially the ending), I was just too curious to see how Flanagan made this work to pass it up. Dark S1 - I'd say I maybe 60-70% really liked this. The time travel / mystery aspects of it kept me interested, but the drama side of things tended to drag and didn't do nearly as much for me. It's also a gorgeous looking show and the score fits almost perfect, a few bonus points there. I also watched Carrie and Christine, turning my weekend into a bit of a Stephen King themed few days.2 points -

Said the native Americans. They come from shithole countries bringing disease, colonialism, slavery, and something called the Chainsmokers. I’d love to hear one good reason why all these ‘real’ Americans think they deserve the land that they stole or colonized and therefore shouldn’t need to be respectful to people that are, shock: actually humans too.2 points -

I’m in the “they can do no wrong” mindset, so I can’t say I agree with this. I DO wish Jonny Craig wasn’t such an asshole though and was able to stay with them, because everything they’ve done with him has definitely been my favorite. Honestly, my least favorite album from them is “Happiness,” and I’m always surprised to find I’m in the minority there.1 point -

It's intellectually dishonest to pretend like the bad word is the problematic part. This is the same argument MAGA-heads employed when the Access Hollywood tape came out - "oh-so-sensitive liberals can't handle a president who talks like #realamericans!" I think the media is too easily coerced into reframing the argument as "whether or not it's ok for Trump to say a cuss". Coarseness and vulgarity are one thing - certainly one wouldn't want to say these words around kids, and to some degree I do think your personal conduct should be above reproach when you're the president of the United States, but also, c'mon. I know pastors who'll pepper a "shit" into a conversation as context allows. No, the issue is the context of "[black and brown countries that have been decimated for generations via occupation and tampering by western governments] are shitholes. Why should we let them in? Why not let in people from [the whitest country on the planet] instead?" He says shit like this all the time, but usually even his smooth oatmeal brain will manage to frame it in a way that allows GOPers plausible deniability, so they just have to do a little cursory hand waving before getting back to gutting Medicaid and cutting taxes for billionaires. This time is the most explicitly racist thing he's said as president. You can't even call it a dog whistle, the mental gymnastics required to offer an alternative explanation are dizzying.1 point

Watched a couple things this last weekend: Jack Goes Home - Pretty crazy and fucked up film. Seems a lot of people didn’t like it too much, but I was thoroughly creeped out for a lot of it. Stars Rory Culkin and Lin Shaye. Definitely recommended if you’re more of a fan of psychological thrillers. The Void - I know most of you have seen this but I was pretty late to the game. Been meaning to see it for so long. Lived up to the hype for sure though. I love it so much. I’m such a sucker for practical effects and they were great.1 point -

It's called Evolution because it's a concept album about the life of the Galapagos tortoise. Danny Carey has recently developed an interest in equatorial sea life. That's why he started The Legend of Seagullmen. The new album closes with a rework of a Rage Against the Machine song featuring Zach De La Rocha during the breakdown called Know Your Anemone.1 point -

First of all who is this "we" you speak of? Are you Native American? If not then you. shouldn't say jack shit about owning any right to America. Also You misspelled "racists" as "true Americans." Go crawl back into your hidey-hole and shit post on reddit to help you cope with that fact that you live a sad life. If you really think the problems in America are because of immigrants than you must be dumb as a brick. Yes of course immigrants must be the reason we have astronomical student debt, a crappy economy/housing market, crumbling infrastructure, tremendous national debt, massive class differences, a corrupt political system, and politicians that act like neanderthals compared to the rest of the world. Must be immigrants not us...1 point -
Haiti in particular has been getting fucked over in major ways for literally centuries, first by French colonialism then by US imperialism. So it is pretty fucking disgraceful for a sitting president to call it a shithole when his predecessors are essentially the reason it is the way it is today. It's like if your neighbor slashed your tires, called your car a piece of shit, then got all sanctimonious when you asked for a ride.1 point
