It's not really screwing anyone over, although it must be tough on stores that would like to get a variant but don't want 10+ copies. I want to go back to the days of random variants. Most of this now is manufactured demand used to leverage both stores and fans.

My splatter just arrived! Pretty excited to get this on release day, especially since I couldn't get tickets to the secret show in Seattle at The Crocodile tonight because of work. The record was shipped UPS next day air and arrived with no damage (no shipping confirmation beforehand btw). Pretty impressed.

I agree it hasn't been my favorite year of stuff. But the Moby, Arctic Monkeys and TVOTR were all very well done. Beach House would have been better if it was a different album but the packaging and record look great for that one. I'm also really digging Mitski. But some of the other stuff has been hard to get into and only got 1 listen.

The self titled! Because...well...the "Deathstar" look. But I am a big fan of the newest as well, both variants of Artificial Selection are pretty neat.

I hear you. I just think that it speaks to the pervasiveness of the oddness we are living in currently. I don't think a lot of the issues are particularly new but most of what has been chaotic is coming to light to greater masses of people than probably any other time in recent history. The other side of the coin is it could just be a way to imbue another level of hype into the selling of new music. Just attach it to the current excitement being felt in the political arena. Though I do agree with the sentiment that, when people say "I'm not political but..." and then follow up with a stance, there is nothing that is not political. Politics is how humans organize their addressing of policies, needs and justice protocol. Literally everything is political because politics is designed to intercede in controversy so as to resolve issues. We just haven't done a shitload of resolving for a while because people can't agree on what the "basic good" of people actually is. I really don't think the consensus ever used to be this widely split on what constitutes the righteous good of all.

The cognitive dissonance is strong in this one.

Metavari / Makeup And Vanity Set Split 7" Now Available! It's been a total accident, but we were able to continue our tradition of releasing an EP from our good friends in Metavari each year by having them take part in our inaugural Seven Inch Of The Month Club! They partnered up with the legendary electronic artist known as Makeup And Vanity Set for a split EP, and the end results are unfathomably good. Both artists worked together during the writing and recording process to try to align this release thematically and sonically - bringing in a strong industrial influence alongside their modern synth and retro-electronic sound. Both of these tracks are also congruent in their stances on the current political climate of our country. While the Metavari half uses gorgeous, haunting vocals in a metaphor about injustice, Makeup And Vanity Set takes a sharp stance on gun control through a poignant sound bite placed perfectly in the midst of the KMFDM-like sonic pummeling. Our friends at Nuvo are being kind enough to premiere the music video for Metavari's contribution, a song titled How Much Darker. You can find that video and interview right here. I actually don't mind the production on this one. This is going to be a grower, for sure, but in a good way. You Wind Me Up is probably the only track that gets the one-eyebrow-raise for me.

Deadpool was entertaining enough for 90 minutes but it's definitely made for 12 year olds. If it was the exact same movie with nothing edited out but got a PG-13 it would've made a billion dollars.
