I once did a show with Sebastian Bach where I spent a few days at his house. THe artwork for Slave was painted by his Dad, David Bierk. His work was amazing. The original painting was hanging in the dining room and was huge - it didn't come close to all fitting on the cover. I stared at it for some time looking at all the detail. His dad was insanely talented.

I would say it's good you played the original years ago so you could experience the ambiance and mood when it first came out. So, I would say definitely pick up the I + II collection to help get into the saga. The sequel is a very fun game and refines the Shenmue experience. And Sega did a great job porting the collection over with the game save carryover from Shenmue to Shenmue 2 intact. North American Shenmue fans were denied that functionality because the idiot Peter Moore made a deal for Shenmue II to appear exclusively on the Xbox in the US. Plus the collection is usually pretty cheap. Both games are also easy Platinums. And with Shenmue III, I thourohly loved the game. Yu Suzuki managed to keep the same feel and spirit of Shenmue in the third all of these years later.

obviously I'm that asshole who's been listening to the record since late July (and actually spoke with Nicky about it - more on that soon) but I think it's their best since GoE. the record is incredibly diverse for a Nothing record and doesn't just stay in that shoe gaze lane the entire time. An incredible step up from Dance on the Blacktop (which I really liked) and just above Tired of Tomorrow for me. GoE will always have the nostalgic edge for me but objectively this is right up there if not better.

Yeah, won't be tip on like the Tone Poets is my guess. But I've been getting really clean BN80s for $18 lately. Cant complain at that price for AAA from Optimal. Also glad they are redoing a lot of the titles from the crumby BN75 run with these new Classics reissues.

That's awesome! I'm going to try to find some more of his dads work online if it exists. Slave is such a rad album cover. I'm excited to hear the bonus material on the RSD release.

I have a memory of listening to this album on minidisc while delivering papers after school during winter. Goddamn that was a simpler time.

Excellent to hear. I think I do recall you mentioning that it was their best since GoE, earlier in the thread. Wasn't sure if that was a single take based off a review stream if you really had time to digest it. Really hoping my opinion lines up with yours because that'd be a real treat. I've held off on both singles so far in hopes of being completely surprised with the first play – truly have no idea what to expect but it's tempting to let my imagination run wild with a post like yours.
