  1. I thought this might be worth sharing, kind of a cool story. So I told my buddy about Whirr a few months back, and he got into them pretty quickly. Ended up going to the San Diego show (I live in the Chicago area), and I asked if he'd pick me up one of the /25 posters. Figured they'd be gone, but worth a shot. I guess he ended up talking to Nick Bassett and got one which is awesome. I'm not certain how exactly this came about, but I'm guessing my friend mentioned that I had turned him onto Whirr or something and that I was dealing with some rough shit at the moment - my dog just passed away last week, and that's been heartbreaking to say the least. Not to get all morbid or anything - but a friend also passed away in the same week, so it's been heavy to say the least. Anyway, I got this poster in the mail today (along with a setlist), but didn't realize what was on the back right away. I'll just post the pictures to tell the rest of the story. Truly shows how genuine the Whirr dudes are - they did not have to do this at all. My friend said he didn't ask them to write anything at all, so it seems to have been done on their (Nick's) accord. I just think it's pretty fucking special. Might seem 'whatever' to some people, but I figured I'd post regardless. To clarify, my dog's name was Tess/my name is Alex. I wish I could frame both sides of this. Must figure something out... Also, anybody notice that it says #1/25 on the front, but on the back it says #1/100? Accident maybe? I honestly couldn't care less about the 'limited' aspect - it's one of a kind to me. One of the most thoughtful, random yet perfectly timed gifts I've ever received. I'll back Whirr forever, no doubt about it. tl;dr my dog passed away, my buddy grabbed me a poster in SD, and Nick from Whirr wrote a message on the back. says a lot about the dude/band as a whole vs. their online troll persona.

  5. So awesome to see them give a positive experience out of a difficult time. It's actually inspired me to share my own little Whirr story, although mine comes from a pleasant time. For Christmas this past year, my girlfriend of 5 years (Amy) contacted Nick about sending some of our records out to him to be signed by the band and returning them back. Instead, he picked out his copies of Distressor on 180g and the 2nd press of Around and got them signed by everyone, and included a nice surprise. I have every Whirr variant ever pressed, so to have this piece to add to my collection is so cool. Anyway, here's the surprise I got:

  6. Posted this in the record storage thread, but might as well post it here too. Need to find a better solution for mass cassette storage. The way my cassettes are currently stored...

  7. I don't care for 5SOS but I really appreciate how much they've helped other bands with free promotion. It's kinda amazing to see the amount of fans All Time Low, State Champs, etc. have received because of a simple tweets these guys post. But I digress, this isn't the ALBUMS YOU WANT PRESSED THREAD it's supposed to be updates for things Hot Topic is currently pressing. So we should really try to stay there.

  14. Apparently they're wising up from the past couple of nights where folks were hoarding 5 copies, because there's a strict 1-per-person limit here in Oakland tonight.

  17. Yeah I'm going to have to go with Yip being the cause here. The Floral Green mp3's i have sound like a shitty web rip but they were straight from the CD. The beginning of Make You Cry especially sounds like dog shit

  18. i fell asleep on my couch and missed the show in my city on Friday. They have pretty consistently had vinyl, a few shirts, patches and show poster the past times i have seen them. see no reason why this time would be any different.

For the rest of the weekend, buy anything from B9 and add something from Test of Time (CD, record, shirt), screen cap and send the receipt and your email address to Facebook.com/testoftimehc and I will pay half of your shipping (US only, regular shipping). I started this Friday and forgot to post it here. Thanks! www.b9store.com -Charles

    Upgrade advice

Setup complete! Getting the placement just right took awhile since they are physically smaller than the Polk's. They sound great though, bass is perfect and Norah's voice sounds amazing!

    CONFESSIONS

I'm getting pretty pissed at a dude a work who's trying to guilt trip me into playing music with him. This dude has never been in a band, pirates everything he listens to, has 0 experience, is living with his parents, and divorced with 2 kids. I have no problem with people making shit, but he's grossly obsessed with metalcore and is giving me a hard time for not wanting to fuck with any of this. I've played music for half of my life, I've done the garbage jam sessions in garages, playing shows to 5 people, touring, etc. I'm good, I have a family and a mortgage and already had my fun. This dude is posting shitty inspirational quotes like 'You can't do epic things with normal people'. I want to say "dude, this is going to suck for a while. That's what being in a band is. You're about 15 years too late". /rant

  37. Eh, maybe so, but their obsessiveness is the main reason Universal is doing this set right, with the original masters and a 100% analog transfer start-to-finish. Most labels these days are happy to churn out shitty digital transfers that basically transfer CD data over to vinyl and charge naive customers $30 for the privilege. The only way that changes is when people complain to the labels... Loudly. And support the releases that do it right. (While not buying the others.)
