  1. There will be though, at least according to all of the press around the announcement of the reissue series: http://pitchfork.com/news/68446-beck-launches-vinyl-reissue-series-with-odelay-sea-change-and-guero/ " Reissues for Mellow Gold, Mutations, Midnight Vultures, The Information, and Modern Guilt are also forthcoming. 2. His vacation should be a trip around the US. He should bring instruments and a band with him. If he wants to set up and play in my town, I wouldn't be mad about it.

  7. While I'm sure this record will be great, here's the really exciting news — through their new label, Cursive will be reissuing all of their records, starting with Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes and Storms Of Early Summer: Semantics Of Song, later this year. FINALLY, those first two albums will be back in print on vinyl!

  9. @Tommy - you are a good soul to remember my desperate, and ongoing search for "IT". I was highly on top of this one and was able to get it I think before the email even went out. I noticed he posted it a couple days ago on the Soild Gold section of the site and have been checking in quite often over the last few days, then went on an F5 spree for most of the morning after seeing the post yesterday until I was able to jump in and get it. I might even get desperate and try to trade this for IT after I listen to it just so I can say my ears at least tasted both, while only actually owning one!

  18. I'm glad that the mailing list went out not too soon after, as people were being told to wait for that as their official sign that the order page was live. Hopefully, as many copies as possible end up in the hands of Dr. Dog/Scott/PIAPTK fans. 10% or more of the copies of his last LP "IT" ended up on eBay and Discogs for $100+. I was lucky to get a marked up copy for *only* $60. Anyway, all parties involved with this are awesome. I hope you all get one.

  21. I've enjoyed Black Hammer a lot too. Lemire is one of my favorites. After Death has been real good too, but he's just doing art for that. I had them throw the first issue of God Country in my box, but I haven't gotten to picking it up yet. Probably later tonight and reading it this weekend.

  27. Well, looks like the Tertia test press is mine. I'm curious to see what number he has since @Sasan says he has the same number (#8/10). Asked for pictures just in case. Haha. But I did manage to get it for a really good price. My Caspian Sheath test press collection is complete now. Never though I'd say that.

  28. A few days into London and I'm sick. Man, I was really looking forward to exploring today. Have a fever and what not, so I'm staying in, making ramen, and watching TV with the lady later. Having such a good time though. I love it here! Plus I think I've secured a test press of Tertia. Never thought I'd be saying that.

  31. As a guy running a small label, it sucks when the shipping process goes so terrible. I am very hands on with everything I do, and it's literally just my wife and I. We do everything from social media posts, project management, distribution, marketing and (some) PR, website, design, mailorder, ISRC coding, literally everything. It always bums me out to hear when someone gets a record from us that is damaged when we take great care in the packing process, yet somehow the USPS (or other carrier) absolutely trashes the package. Mind you, this doesn't happen often, but it's worse when the person on the receiving end assumes that we as a label would pack it up already damaged or as if we intentionally made it so the customer would receive a damaged item. I have literally all label lines of communication linked to my phone specifically to ensure that I can get back to people almost immediately, and trying to keep people in the loop as quickly as possible is usually the best step we've been able to take in trying to keep the damage minimal. Vinyl is expensive as hell, so it should be treated as a big deal for both the label and the customer when things go wrong, rightfully so. I'd like to think we are pretty good with working with people on the rare occasion when this does happen, and although it costs us in the end, it's the right thing to do. Hell, in one case, a guy in Ireland got a record that was literally FOLDED IN HALF. He sent pics, and although it cost us about $50 to resend it, hoping that it would not show up the way it did the first time, we did it anyway. It's a bitch, but again, it's the right thing to do. Only part that sucks is the money lost, especially when a pressing plant sends over defective product to the label (trust me, this can happen even after you've approved test pressings....it's not a fail safe). So it goes, I guess. In the end, it's worth it to see the customer happy, or if that's not possible, try to compromise and make it work to get there. Long winded post, sorry. I guess it's just that as a label manager and a guy who orders a ton of vinyl over mailorder for myself, I can see both sides of the coin.

  35. I have adored everything they've made recently... Joy, Departed was top 4 of the year, the song on the TWIABP split is reeeally good, and that 4-song EP was an incredible burst of feeling. I must be the odd one out but I like everything they've been making recently so much more than what they started making. Forgettable just isn't that interesting to me, comparatively. Stoked, honestly, and I'm gonna preorder as soon as it goes up.

  42. He actually did state on ETS that the 24-bit downloads are the masters being used for vinyl. The only changes they will go through at the cutting house (the pressing house is unlikely doing the lacquers, Hesitation Marks was cut by Chris Bellman and pressed at crappy URP) would be things like making the low end mono, de-essing, things that make the record playable. Their goal is to match the master they're sent as accurately as possible. Have you downloaded the multitracks for Year Zero? Listening to a recompiled In This Twilight with the same dynamics as the 1989 CD of Pretty Hate Machine cranked up on a good system is pretty awesome. This is what's frustrating about Trent, he has so much cool shit going on like appreciating surround sound (releasing The Social Network score as a 5.1 high resolution Blu-ray, who else does that? Hardly anyone!), dropping unmastered fully dynamic multitracks to two entire albums as well as a bunch of other stuff (Jane's Addiction Chip Away/Whores) - I can't even count on one hand how many times I've heard that happen, instrumentals, fighting like hell for fans to get the best tickets to show with their names on them scalper-free and calling out TM/LN at the same time (shame they deleted the forums where his post was), insanely brilliant live shows, doing two masterings (HM, even if the audiophile one turned out to be a big disappointment), dumping 400GB raw live footage via torrents, but then eviscerates the dynamics of Broken and calls it definitive! Has his hearing gone the way of Rick Rubin's? I don't know, I'm not his audiologist, lol. In a perfect world they'd have released the DRminusinfinity version of Broken as a 16-bit download and done a nice new fully dynamic remastering for 24/96 version. You don't, and if you do you're doing it wrong, listen to 24/96 while jumping around at the gym, you do listen to 24/96 on your main system designed around maximum playback fidelity.

    any anime nerds?

Been meaning to check out Sword Art Online but I plan on seeing Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Ghoul, FMA: Brotherhood and Samurai Champloo first. On a sidenote, I finally got into and finished Death Note recently (I know, I know, I'm late to the party but I took a decade-long break from anime since I lost interest in middle school). It was on my to-watch list for years and even though I get the ending, I'm not sure if I was fully satisfied by it. Fully agree about Kimi no Na Wa and the other Shinkai and Hosoda works you mentioned. Your Name is actually my favorite film of 2016 (and I thought last year had a plethora of great movies), it just blew me away. I hope I can get my hands on the Blu-Ray sooner rather than later.

    What.cd has shut down.

You know what they say: once you go FLAC, you can no longer listen to 320 on a legitimate setup and stop yourself from wondering how much better it could potentially sound. TPB is a shitshow and always has been. Decent for new leaks but terrible as far as organization and reliability are concerned. I haven't used it in years, and the fact that it's constantly under the crosshairs of anti-piracy organizations certainly gives me no incentive to try it again.

  48. I finished the cabinet I was working on. Cost under $200 and should hold about 700 albums or so. I'm just really proud of the top. Too bad you can't see too much of it. Next step is getting a separate amp for the record set up. Feels good to design and build it myself instead of going to IKEA or paying an arm and a leg for a piece of furniture. It's a nice median between the two.
