  3. My first release was a licensing deal. It sort of just all fell into my lap. I was friends with a bunch of bands from booking shows and touring. I had a lump sum of change fall into my lap (got hit by a car on my bike and their insurance bought me a new bike and paid me $3,000 not to sue). I was 20 or so at the time and didn't know what else to do with the cash. It was before the vinyl boom really happened so lots of smaller labels weren't interested in vinyl yet. I booked a show for a friends band about a month or so after I got the cash. He was complaining his label had no interest in pressing their upcoming record on vinyl (he knew I was a huge collector), and I was like well I happen to just get a decent amount of cash, let's make this happen! He put me in touch with the label. The label was excited to have someone else deal with a "non home run type vinyl release". The label asked for 10% of the press and to give another 10% to the band. No extra cash for licensing or anything. The label actually helped me figure a lot out because at the time I knew nothing about pressing a record. they also fully pushed that we were taking care of the vinyl in all the PR and didn't ask for any money for any of that (which I'm sure he had to pay for). So I had 80% of the press left to sell and recover my money, which I did. Had a run for about 8-9 years running the label, put out 21 records. The first record was the only thing I ever licensed though. I never officially hung it up. Just started having kids and running a more profitable business so my priorities kind of shifted. My advice to you would be reach out to the bands first and see if they're interested. They probably either own the rights or can put you in touch with the people who do. You never known, may get someone like I did, who is just happy to see music they're involved with out on vinyl and not have to deal with the hassle themselves. Good luck!

  16. I know that Nintendo has a reputation for being very litigious, and oldschool about licensing, digital rights, etc. I would love to see it happen as well, but anything dealing with their properties is likely to be extremely difficult to do legally

  20. When pressing “Survival” we created a special release show variant. We still can’t have that show, but we do in fact have that “Orange Flame” version of the record. This is the most limited colorway out of 100 units total made, with alternative artwork, and a signature challenge coin to match the theme of the torch. We have decided that this weekend, January 15-17, we will be doing a safe, punk rock, pop up to celebrate with our community. Select members of our band, crew, and friends will each have a handful of copies and will simultaneously “pop up” in various cities TBA. Locations will all be OUTSIDE of familiar buildings. Times will be sporadic but all will adhere to just a single hour outside, or until sold out.(Its fucking cold) Yes, we will have a few copies available online for homies afar. We will be masked. You will be masked. It’s going to a quick pandemic friendly handoff, unfortunately not a hangout. We are excited and this is us pushing through. Stay positive and tune in tomorrow for full info on dates, times, and places. See you this weekend.

  25. The conversation about outgrowing their view is interesting to me. I've had the opposite experience. I did not enjoy them or their views in the 90s/early 00s. I saw them a bunch just by virtue of opening for someone else (Bouncing Souls mostly). I was young. I just wanted to have a good time and not be preached at. I didn't care about politics. I saw them on their last tour twice and realized there was an equilibrium of their views and my awakening (and age). Their albums are hit and miss for me.

  30. I was there too and yeah, the energy in the room was amazing. My wife and I were at the Fox Theater show 2 nights earlier as well. That show didn't go well overall so I've always thought that fired Jack up for Wednesday night. I'm so stoked for this Vault.

  31. Good to hear! I love GD but some of their represses over the years sound more like CDs pressed to vinyl. The Nimrod 2xLP was an improvement so I figured this would be as well. Plus, the orange color makes a lot more sense than the hot topic blue that came out a while back, imo. Looking forward to putting this on the platter.

  32. glad I offloaded my Iced Earth collection years ago... this has too be some of the cringest, crazy-uncle shit, Facebook rantings I've read in sometime “My name is Jon Schaffer. I’m from Indiana. A group of thugs and criminals hijacked this country a long time ago. Now they’re making their big move, and it’s not gonna happen. And that’s what it is. These are globalists. These are the scum of the earth. These are the criminals that are behind all the fraudulent fee on currency, they’re behind all the wars, they’re behind all the shit, they’re behind divide-and-conquer tactics, behind the racial divide. It’s all nonsense, it’s all garbage. People need to wake up and snap out of the matrix, because they’re going down. They’ve made the move. They’re messing with the wrong people here — trust me on that. And we needed it to be open like this — open fraud, open theft. Because now we see you, and you’re going down. Mark my words.”

  33. Yeah because all the packages they've had since the beginning of December are probably being buried by newer packages coming in. That's a long time for something to not be updated though. Hopefully it's not lost. Anything I've had shipped to me within the last week and a half has arrived already so that's such a bullshit excuse.

  34. “ When it came time to make Life In Your Glass World, Citizen’s need to continue moving forward creatively went hand in hand with their desire to be fully in control of their creative destiny. Nick Hamm explains: “I don’t have a lot of regret but there have definitely been times when we felt powerless during the band’s existence. This time we really owned every part of the process. It’s easy to feel like you’re on autopilot when you’re in a band, but that’s not a good place to be this far into our existence. We consciously knew we wanted to break free.” For Citizen that meant taking the entire album-making process home to Toledo (the Glass City) and creating everything in-house. Kerekes built a home studio in his garage, a project that was as empowering as it was practical. “It’s super easy and convenient,” he says. “But I also felt like building the studio was a way to prove we don’t need anything but ourselves.” Hamm adds, “This is the first self-sufficient Citizen record. There was no pressure at all and moving at our own pace allowed the songs to be a little more fleshed out.” The looser recording process also afforded the band time to focus on each song’s individual mood, making their signature blend of aggression and melody all the more pronounced, and even capturing appealing imperfections. The result is an album that represents the members’ vision in its purest form, something that feels distinctly Citizen while also marking the start of a fresh chapter. One of the most immediately striking elements of the direction on Life In Your Glass World is the band’s attention to rhythm. Many of the songs feature undeniably danceable beats and sharp, groove-laden guitar lines, which give both the barnburners and the brooding atmospheric tracks a pulsating heart. “When you write songs the same way for X amount of years, you start to want to try something new,” Kerekes says. “These songs were mostly built from drums and bass first, which was different for us. I’d start with a completely different beat every time to get a certain energy.” The band’s desire to assert themselves is palpable both in the music and Kerekes’ lyrics, mirroring not only their creative frustrations but also a long year of personal upheavals. “There’s a lot of anger in these songs and we wanted the music to communicate that,” Hamm says. “I think a lot of people expect bands to slow down or chill out when they get to where we are, but we consciously didn’t want to do that.” The opening one-two punch of “Death Dance Approximately” and “I Want To Kill You” exemplifies the acerbic-yet-buoyant feel of Life In Your Glass World, and the latter sums up the album’s defiant themes. Kerekes puts it plainly: “Sometimes you feel like you’re being used. A lot of the lyrics are liberating, they’re reclaiming control.” The band wastes no time in showing their range, pivoting to the melancholy haze of “Blue Sunday” and the bounce of “Thin Air,” which meditate on the struggle to invest so much in something only to be let down and retreat inside oneself instead. Elsewhere tracks like “Call Your Bluff” and “Black and Red” showcase Citizen’s knack for big choruses, while “Pedestal” features towering drums and a distorted bass line that’s as malevolent sounding as Kerekes’ vitriolic words. “Fight Beat,” with its tense mix of otherworldly menace and memorable hooks, takes the band’s rhythmic-centric writing to its furthest point yet; lyrically, the song grapples with the realization that one has passed a point of no return, a sentiment that permeates the attitude of Life In Your Glass World. “This isn’t a baby step,” Hamm says. “It’s exactly what we want to do.” Much of Life In Your Glass World deals with the bleak and challenging aspects of being human, and the album often feels like an exorcism of pent up negative feelings. But those feelings give way to a sense of hope with the closing track “Edge of The World.” Interweaving guitars rise around Kerekes’ voice as he considers past pain with the kind of clarity that can only come from time and distance—and finds promise in looking towards the future. The song builds to a soaring finale as the clouds part and Kerekes declares, “At the end of the day there was beauty in tragedy.” It’s one last turn, the kind of affirmation that makes you reexamine everything you just heard with a newfound perspective. It’s a fitting conclusion for Life In Your Glass World – borne of the confidence gained through years of trials, tribulations, and self reflection – and one that asserts that Citizen’s true identity is rooted in the raw energy of constant evolution.” source https://digital.terrorbird.com/artists/citizen

  36. Yea I’m not gonna read into this one much. Seems like it’s all personal stuff. And the last LP and the quiet slang stuff wasn’t good. In fact you could probably halve the first two lps into one good one by cutting out some filler. It’s not a catalog i really revisit. And then shit like this happens and it’s like “well what do I do with this shit?” And I feel like that’s been happening a lot lately.

  37. I have a Tom Waits record that is like this (although it's just 2 LPs). From what I understand, these are made for automatic record changers so you can stack two LPs and then play sides two sides in a row. Check this video:

  38. It is what it is man. Punk rock in general is pretty hypocritical when you think about it. It's a genre based around negative feelings, being as anti conformative as possible, fighting the system, yet every punk band is trying to be successful at what they do by making a living selling music. That alone is pretty hypocritical lol. I still listen to the newer stuff but not like I used to. The band was one of the first shows I ever saw on the new kind of army era. I still really dig the earlier records, I dig them as people, I'll be picking this up.

  39. I appreciate the warning, but that is honestly exactly my expectation. I want to get involved, and there are some releases I want to see that I don't think would ever happen otherwise, so I'm happy to buy in with money and time.

  40. My honest advice is don’t try. unless you are willing to commit to taking on the hours of a second job and not only not making a profit but realistically losing a couple thousand dollars per release. if you are still interested there are a couple people here that run labels that could probably help, but I’d guess their initial response will be the same.

  41. This was one of my fav albums from them for a time period. Haven't bought anything of theirs since The People or The Gun. Lately I can't really get past the hypocrisy of a band making songs called "Anti-Violent" and preaching tolerance while also selling their fans messages of "Kill This" or "Kill That" while pushing hatred and violence towards friends and neighbors with different political opinions. Seems outright irresponsible of them to continue doing so during this hostile political climate. I always loved their passion in their music, and the unity and camaraderie that was part of their shows, but the last few times I saw them it just felt more like shortsighted screaming and tribalism. Perhaps it's an age thing, when I was young I hated Bush and wanted to scream against his politics and hug people in the crowd who were part of my "tribe." But as I grow older, I'm increasingly made to feel like I am viewed as an "enemy" as I start to enter into what some view as "patriarchy" as an older fellow from a specific demographic which is popular to bash on and make assumptions about these days. Also, I fully realize that Anti-Flag have always been hypocrites in their music. So it's not them who have changed, but myself. I'm not buying in to the hypocrisy anymore.

  43. Wow, don't know about you, but for me this Beach Slang news is like a heavy-hearted, youthful rebellion cigarette in the gutter, dusty thrashed record cover, glam-bam swagger of a kick in the balls.

  45. You are correct, we do them for almost every album we release on vinyl.

  46. To be fair, this is the same band that has 30+ different versions of a split 7" with a Japanese band. So complaining that a band that has always put out different variants of releases, and are collectors themselves, is putting out too many variants is odd. If people are willing to buy them, cool, have at it. It's not like this was unexpected. The alt cover variants is something PN has done with I believe every release they've been involved with. Sound the Alarm was no different.
    1 point
  47. lol. You're angry at people when you don't even know they were involved. They were not. Pure Noise is doing their new album, and honestly did a job getting it in on time, etc. Anthem and B-Sides was through Smartpunk Records and likely some help from the band.
    1 point
  48. We repressed this album because the 1st pressing mostly sold out.. not supporting a band because their album is readily available and trying to make money when they can't tour is a very strange concept to me.
