  6. Ltd. blue Japanese pressing just put up: https://revolvemerchandise.shop/products2/slowdive-slowdive-blue-japanese-lp-vinyl-record 300 copies. $35 is a bit steep, I want it but don't know if I can swing $43 shipped. Especially with no mention of any variation in the audio/mastering/bonus tracks.

  7. This album is pretty good. After all their talk of "reinventing" themselves I expected a little more experimentation though. Wish there had been more tracks like Black Car that had a little darker feel to them and heavier, deeper synths. Overall it's another Beach House album, which is great...but pretty interchangeable with most of their albums. The vinyl itslf was very quiet and nice. I actually sat and listened to this with headphones on, whcih I rarely get to do and got no surface noise, and didn't notice any distortion.

  8. Mine came today too. Even had a sticker on the shrinkwrap! I threw that part away though, destroying my eBay market value. Definitely sounds great. Already spun the whole thing twice. I'll probably be able to fit one more play through in before my upstairs neighbor gets home from work and I stop playing music at ignorant volumes out of consideration.

  9. Just picked up a few more Koz records so I figured I’d take a group shot. It’s a pretty minuscule collection compared to some other Koz collections I’ve seen here, but I pretty much have everything I want, other than April. The black/white marbled /300 April is a white whale of mine, I just don’t have $200 to drop on it. Red House Painters - Rollercoaster (second press, 2015, black) Red House Painters - Songs For A Blue Guitar (second press, 2015, black) Red House Painters - Old Ramon (second press, 2015, smokey clear) Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts Of The Great Highway (second press, 2018, black) Sun Kil Moon - Admiral Fell Promises (first press, 2010, marbled grey /150) Sun Kil Moon - Benji (second press, 2014, clear /1,900) Mark Kozelek - Lost Verses - Live (first press, 2009, white /500) Mark Kozelek - Live At Union Chapel & Sodra Teatern (first press, 2011, red/green /500)

  11. Psychostick is putting their first album out on vinyl as a 2xLP. It's the one that has the "BEER!!!" song on it, such a classic! I think they said if this does well they will eventually put ALL their albums out on vinyl....schwing! https://qrates.com/projects/16139

    MORE HORROR SECTION!

Also. From a conversation I had with Dave, new record expected to be out by October. No theme. Just about random movies. A full length LP.

  15. Nabbed the DW variant. Never heard of this band but a few friends have told me I'd dig them. They've never steered me wrong. And if it DW is carrying an exclusive variant, I'm even more confident.

  17. Black Car is such a great fucking song. I also wish there were more like it, but I really dig this album.

  19. Sounds like it came unglued from inside. I tossed them for a replacement the few times that happened to me. I might be misinterpreting you though... like the whole plastic part sticks to the record as you pull it out?

  20. I care! Please do. To me SIAS is shimmery, playful and sometimes insecure. And AM is more like R&B/hip-hop beat-inspired self-serious cocky try-hard bravado.

  21. To me, AM is just so un-interesting. It's got some good songs on it but i don't really dig the sound they were going for. Some of the songs are just flat out boring.

Went with the DW variant. I'm sure it'll probably have one, CC doesn't usually skimp on that if memory serves me right.

  26. What YouTwo said pretty much. SIAS is a harmless shimmery guitar album. Some pretty good stuff on there.

  33. It wasn't a UO exclusive variant. It was the same "mountain smash" colored vinyl variant that was available from Hopeless' Merch Now store. It's still available at Amoeba.

  41. I'll give my two cents. I'm an old school Monkeys fan. Their early stuff Eps, big fan of their first four albums. A few tracks off of AM were good, but overall, I wasn't a giant fan of that record. Not to mention, their fan base took a real turn for the worst. Now when you see them, it's just a bunch of fangirls on their phones taking pictures of Alex. After the first two listens of this album, I'm again, not really a fan of where they're going. Lyrically, it's not strong (that right off the bat lyric about The Strokes is extremely cringeworthy. Not to mention "kiss me underneath the moon's side boob"... Come on AT. As many have mentioned, it feels like this album shouldn't be an Arctic Monkeys record, but more so an Alex Turner featuring the Arctic Monkeys release. I wouldn't be surprised if they break up or go on an indefinite hiatus after this album cycle. I know he's trying to showcase his Bowie influence, but it doesn't really work here. I do feel like over time, this has potential to grow on me a bit more, but for right now, I'm not a fan.

  44. I love Om and High On Fire (and I never really thought I would) but there is no comparison between Sleep and those bands. Sonically, there are touches of Sleep in both bands but most of those bands' records have been consistently available (with a few exceptions) and there hasn't been the cultural mystery and fanfare for those bands as neither produced an album of as large of a landmark status that ended up being the bar against which a particular style has been held up to. Sleep have had a mythology of grandeur and rightfully so, I would say. The subsequent bands that were born from Sleep's break up are generally lauded and held in high regard by many but those same three guys aren't going to produce something that gains the status of Jerusalem/Dopesmoker on their own outside of the collective of Sleep as a band proper. They went on to form new bands under their own shadows. Sleep as a specific group (even lacking the original drummer from their classic, most successful lineup) and their name carry an air of sanctity in their genre and among their fans new and old. I doubt they ever sought that status specifically by doing what they did but their output and the scarcity and limitation of that output only further imbues them with aggrandizement. They had two albums as Cisneros/Pike/Hakius. Holy Mountain was well loved and established a culture of "Sabbath Worship" and Dopesmoker was venerated and used as a rite of passage in the Doom/Stoner metal community. It was bootlegged and scarce and it was also a major feat of execution and creativity. Both albums were out of print or non-existant on vinyl for a long time as well. That's why the fanfare over Sleep is and will likely remain greater than it is for Om and HOF. And all that carries over into the present with the weight of their unlikely reunion in 2009 and subsequent tours and then the idea that a whole new album was a possibility spurned by the release of a warmly received single in 2014. Sleep has been an institution longer as well obviously. Their fanbase has been gestating with their material for a long time and I'd say they are more popular now than they've ever been.
