  17. Not the Chinese. Much as they did during the recession with NYC real estate, Hong Kong will stockpile various Mondo variants, limited Record Store Day reissues and clear vinyl copies of Bowie's "Blackstar", filling entire warehouses with anything hipsters were after between 2001-2015.

  19. I think anything that followed up the 05 albums was gonna get backlash. Those were difficult albums to top. ET had a bunch of little things people thought was wrong with it (Two being too straight forward plus Sheryl Crow, remaking 2 classic tracks and making them sound worse than their Suicide Handbook version, lackluster recordings vs their live counterpart), on top of all that he had just gotten sober, which was after a couple years of audience clashing, and playing either ramshackle or spectacular shows. So his persona was a bit dicey and his fan base was wary. It was a burnout period for everyone TBH. Ultimately I think ET has aged really well. I do think the production on it is pretty bad, but the songs are really great. Cardinalology was really well produced but outside of 2-3 tracks, the songs aren't there. It's a pretty forgettable record IMO.

  26. Thats what I said only couple of years ago. I now buy 10% of what I used to. And its not about economy, its just that record prices have doubled since I started 10 years ago and sooner or later you realise that you can buy pretty much the best digital playback system with that same money (99% of new music is recorded digital anyway and is available to download in high resolution for "free") and only cherry pick the essentials on vinyl.

  32. I take all of my records out of the shrink. I, then, insert them into brand new sleeves before I catalog them in my record cabinet. I have a gripe, here, though. Excuse me for the redundancy, but why should it matter what anyone does with things they purchase with their hard (or not-so-hard) earned money? I owned about 400 records before I even owned a turntable, and do you know why? These records mean something to me. When I got my copy of Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity" in the mail, I opened it and set it down next to me and felt relief. Relief that a piece of art that meant so much to me (and still does) was now mine. It was someone else's once, and I hope they found the same appreciation for it as I do. I own a host of records that I feel a connection to, because I feel a deep connection to the music. That's why I collect. Forget the fact that it's higher fidelity, or that the album art is cool, and that sometimes there are vinyl-only tracks and special releases, and the litany of other reasons that vinyl is a great investment. I invest because I love music. If I choose not to play a record in my collection, why is that a problem? It's really that difficult to wrap your head around the fact that people collect for different reasons? I don't understand why a majority of the users here feel the need to berate and belittle, as if it's a fucking birthright. Fact is, at one point, you had just one post on this board, and either you did or didn't ask a question that was asked one too many times, but when it's met with so much animosity, it drives people away from this community. This community thrives because of the people in it, and I'm sure there are some bad apples on here, but for the most part, why is a new user expected to comb through thousands of posts for an answer to a question when they can just post their inquiry in twenty god damn seconds? It's sort of shitty. I love this place, I love being a part of it, I've found tons of records from people here and I frequent this board every day. It never gets easier to see people being assholes. Again, I guess that's your prerogative, though. P.S. I have a copy of "The Decline" on Clear.

  34. So the email said they'd be out by the end of the month, but the MerchNow product page is saying mid-February. And if you add it to your cart, it says "Your order is estimated to ship around 2/26/2016 due to a preordered item". And to make it even better, Chris is selling a test press of it on eBay. Ugh, I just want my order to ship so I can burn that No Sleep bridge and be done with it.

  37. Dont understand the whining going in here. Yes, it is a little pricey, but the quality is great. On par with his other vinyl releases. I'm sure if this was released as a "limited" press, there would be little to no complaining. It sounds great. Looking forward to avalanche and loser anthems!

  39. In his defense, this doesn't happen nearly as much as people think. Substantial temp changes will warp a record the same whether sealed or unsealed. In my experience, most sealed records keep pretty well as long as you treat them nicely. But, I get that people want to throw whatever neg vibes they can at people who scored a copy of a record they weren't as fortunate to get.
