  3. Sweet Christmas. My pre-coffee brain totally conflated the two. Post edited, but my overall sentiment still stands. PS - Figgy, you are not allowed to correct me today; you thought Halloween was October 29th. That makes us Brothers in brain death.

  6. Oh man, oh man the show tonight was incredible. I hadn't seen The Appleseed Cast since the LLO tour (first and only time to see them prior to tonight), so it was nice seeing them play other stuff. Lots of Mare Vitalis, which was awesome. They're so so so good. And it was nice not having to suffer through a subpar opening. Boom, right in with the TAC. Setlist: Kilgore Trout Cathedral Rings Here We Are (Family in the Hallways) Sunset Drama King Silas Knife Fishing the Sky Santa Maria Forever Longing the Golden Sunsets Steps and Numbers Caspian. Jesus fucking christ, Caspian. Where to even begin? The last time I had seen them was in 2011 at SXSW, so it's been a while. Loved hearing the stuff from Waking Season--'Gone in B&B' especially is a gut check, because I remember listening to that the day that Chris passed away, and being pretty wrecked by it. I was blown away by the stuff from D&D--it all translated so well. 'Arcs of Command' was so fucking good. I know the cliche is "face melting", but my god that's not an exaggeration. That song ruled. They took a break after 'The Raven', saying that this is the part where they'd leave the stage, pretend they were done, and come back to play more. My other favorite 'Rioseco' right into 'Darkfield' again just blew my mind with their weight and impact. Everything was loud and hard hitting--just unreal. The new song 'Castles High, Marble Bright' was good--better than I thought it'd be, honestly and I thought that was the end of the show. But people in the crowd started chanting "one more song! one more song!" I thought there was absolutely no way that they'd come back out, but after a few minutes, instead of dying out, the chant was actually getting LOUDER, and eventually they came back on the stage. Phil basically said that at the beginning of the tour, they'd all promised themselves that they would only play what they were about to play in very special circumstances. And that this was one of them since the crowd was so amazing. Proceeded to play 'Sycamore'. Blew my fucking mind. I saw it back in 2011, but it didn't mean as much to me then as it did now. And I guess prepping myself/knowing that I wouldn't be seeing it, made them playing it even more special. Had a great time rocking out. Need to not wait 5 years to see them again. Setlist: Waking Season Echo and Abyss Some are White Light Gone in Bloom and Bough Arcs of Command Sad Heart of Mine The Raven Rioseco Darkfield Castles High, Marble Bright Encore: Sycamore.

  12. That story of the band having to glue the jackets doesn't make any sense. I find it hard to believe. Imprint prints gatefold jackets for around $1500, why would they even think about doing that work themselves? They just want to cash in. I have no problem with that, although personally I'm not going to buy an LP for $50 and I don't care if it sells out and start selling for more money. I can live without a record. From what I've read from their FB, they want the fans to pay extra for their merch because of their mistake of signing on a major label. Now, that's another of my reasons to not buy anything from them.

  13. Yeah, Wingard had only contributed to the You're Next score in the past. And I thought scored a short film as well. Also, mad props to him for loving SURVIVE and placing them on his OST for The Guest.

  14. Unfortunately, this is the kind of release that works very well for me in film, but will rarely, if ever, get a spin on its own. I've purchased several scores of this ilk over the years and, after watching them collect dust, have made the decision to put that money towards other things*. *things=records

  29. To be fair, for this 2016 pressing Warner made Failure personally buy them for retail cost. WB manufactured the discs, but Failure had to glue together the jackets and put the records in the sleeves and all that. Yes Failure loves you that much. They should have an Apple like sticker "Designed and assembled by Failure. Made in Warner Brothers' Pressing Plant."

  31. You two have just reminded me why it's probably time to revisit this. I liked it when it came out, but never really got into it the way I got into Tertia way back when. I definitely agree that Caspian are a step beyond anything else going on in post-rock nowadays. It goes beyond just moving away from the post-rock staples too, there's just so much richness in every bit of instrumentation and so many unusual and interesting sounds going on. I get similar vibes from Dust that I get when I listen to Low Level Owl by The Appleseed Cast, in that I get pretty lost sometimes trying to figure out 'how the hell are they doing that?'. It makes the repeat listenings all the more satisfying, whereas often with some of the instrumental stuff I've heard of late I've not felt much need to dive back in and do the same. Then, on the other hand, maybe if the guitar in the last minute of Rioseco didn't sound so absolutely perfect I might not have dropped £350 on a guitar pedal trying to copy it. Oops.

  36. Why do you need the lenticular. It's a huge waste of money. You are paying an extra $20 for the lenticular sheet. Just by the standard reissue. It's the same pressing, just a cheaper package.

I went to look at a collection this evening, it was probably 500 records. Everything was 70's / 80's disco, funk, soul, and rock. Your typical generic collection. Most of it was in mediocre shape too. I couldn't believe it when I pulled a sealed original pressing of Pearl Jam - VS. I passed on buying the collection, but offered the guy $10 for the copy of VS. He said yes
