  1. As shitty as that is, I'm grateful that the moderators had the decency to ban him, and I quite enjoy not having to read his posts. I also like to imagine him staring longingly at this thread while shivering on the outside, in the same irrelevant isolation as the bots and guests who can't be bothered to register. I'm confident he's still frequenting this thread on the off-chance a mystery batch will pop up, allowing him to grab a few more to flip. That being said – hi, Halo 2. Just wanted to remind you that you're a shitty tryhard dork of a pasty white kid, and your terrible tastes and ethics are a byproduct of the fact your parents never loved you. Happy holida[aayy]ys.

  7. Awesome..after my right sleeve was done, i didn't get any for years. Then a couple years ago I started on my leg sleeve (knee down to foot and which I still need to finish) but now I've gotten 2 since august and about to get a 3rd so hope the pace stays up. Figured from now on for Christmas, birthday, father's day and anniversaries I'll just ask for tattoos haha. Nothing better than that final wipe of clearing all the extra ink, gives me goosebumps every time double post

  8. That's not I was referring to. I meant to comment on your system quality as far as how an album sounds to you. Go listen to Tertia on a better system and you'll hear why we want a re-recording. Cause like Charlie said, if you think Tertia's sound quality is amazing, we wonder what other albums that have a low or poor DR rating that you think are amazing. I love Caspian. They're my favorite post rock band, if not my favorite band period, but the quality of their actual recordings, even as far as Waking Season, are middle of the road at best. Let me break down the dynamic range of Waking Season for you: Source: Samplerate: 44100 Hz // Channels: 2 // Bits per sample: 16 Bitrate: // 983 kbps // Codec: FLAC DR Peak RMS Duration Track DR6 0.00 dB -9.22 dB 5:21 01-Waking Season DR6 0.00 dB -8.90 dB 6:14 02-Procellous DR5 0.00 dB -8.59 dB 10:24 03-Gone In Bloom And Bough DR6 0.00 dB -8.02 dB 5:15 04-Halls Of The Summer DR8 0.00 dB -11.48 dB 3:33 05-Akiko DR8 -0.04 dB -11.26 dB 3:38 06-High Lonesome DR5 0.00 dB -7.59 dB 6:04 07-Hickory '54 DR7 0.00 dB -10.73 dB 6:11 08-Long The Desert Mile DR5 -0.08 dB -8.15 dB 2:34 09-Collider In Blue DR6 0.00 dB -8.05 dB 7:49 10-Fire Made Flesh Waking Season just barely breaks the transition section coming in at an 8 for 'Akiko' and 'High Lonesome'. That is still two and a half points away from being mid-tier, and that's at their best. Most of the album comes in at a lack luster 6 overall. That's down right awful honestly. And that doesn't have anything to do with the band, but the quality of the dynamic range. Keep in mind that is loseless and listening with proper equipment. It goes down dramatically if you are using an inferior source, or inferior equipment. Let me give you some post rock benchmarks: 5 | Isis - Mosquito Control 6 | Mono - For My Parents 7 | This Will Destroy You - Tunnel Blanket 8 | ITTCT - Above 9 | Omega Massif - Karpatia 10 | Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞ 11 | Russian Circles - Guidance / Alcest - Kodama 12 | Mogwai - Atomic / Earth - Hex 13 | Slint - Spiderland / Sigur Ros - Von Honestly, not a lot of post music breaks the into the good category dynamic range wise. It's kind of sad. But if you want to listen to a pretty big difference get a loseless copy of Mosquito Control and Spiderland, then listen to a DAC, headphone amp, and a good pair of open headphones, then compare. The difference is night and day, and that's not even getting into the good category. And keep in mind, this isn't about the album, but the quality of the sound. Since post rock albums don't hit that 14+ mark too often (because it's a fairly new[er] genre), here are some examples of the best sounding albums recorded and analyzed for their dynamic range: 13 | Beck - Mellow Gold 13 | Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine 14 | Neil Young - Harvest 14 | Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill 15 | Nirvana - Unplugged 15 | Fleetwood Mac - Rumors 15 | Bob Dylan - Slow Train Coming 17 | Miles Davis - Live At Montreux 19 | Steve Earle - Copperhead Road Anyways, I doubt any of this will matter since you will just blast some CD in your car or spin a record on a DJ table. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

  9. I wish I had a cache of GIFs. If words can't quite convey what I'd like, I typically just Google a GIF that hasn't been overused on the forums and then hope for the best. I'll see what I can do though – there are many instances where I roll my eyes or bite my tongue and try to take the higher road to avoid jabs or bickering, and I think that's why I haven't really been opting for that route. I guess it all depends on how feisty I'm feeling. As to what you've said, @mrewest, I've got to agree. (And no, I wouldn't say you're being annoying or ranting.) This thread has been a bit of a sanctum for the niche VC group who enjoys their post-genres, simply because instrumental music receives some reception on this board that wavers between lukewarm, on a good day, and basically nonexistent on the bad ones. Nobody wants to make a thread and see the same 2 or 3 people chime in once, and that's a big part of why this thread is so great. I didn't even spot the Malacoda Effect until you pointed it out. That's pretty hilarious. With any due respect, a lot of Gumbo's posts feel redundant to me... and I guess they occasionally go in one ear and out the other. So the blatant love for Malacoda, or the pitches for Show Me A Dinosaur – it feels as though I read over those things in other threads, and then again - sometimes multiple times - and it's just such a buzzkill. I don't know if you legitimately have a personality disorder, Gumbo, or if it's just the way you carry yourself online... but I often wonder. It's a big part of the reason I don't even bother with half of the posts in this thread as of late, and another reason I tread carefully when it comes to giving you flack. I joke about your overzealousness for all things tremolo stemming from blunt trauma at shows, but in reality if you really do struggle or have struggled with some sort of disability, that's not something I'd be comfortable ridiculing you for. That being said... it's perfectly cool to be "high on life" and to have opinions that don't mesh with everyone else. But I guess it all boils down to how you voice that. I enjoy reading positive opinions on records I find lackluster, and also trying to wrap my head around negative outlooks on albums I think are fantastic... but what I don't enjoy is seeing wall after all of text that essentially translate into "well you're right and here's why I think I'm right:". I could handle that once – one concrete, defensive post per opinion – but I don't need literal pages of one person challenging everyone who disagrees that Tertia shouldn't be remastered, that Caspian shouldn't be a jam band, and that ISIS shouldn't reform to tour. I just don't.

  16. @mrewest: so you mean pre-Gumbo days? You can go ahead and say it. No need to beat around the bush. I don't really have a problem with Gumbo as a person – probably not someone I could handle "IRL", though I wish him no harm – but I've got to admit that his online persona can be a little exhausting. Sometimes it's entertaining to see someone get so giddy over babby's first crescendo album, but most days I feel like I'm wading through posts riddled with hyperbole that are pitching random Bandcamp groups or recommendations that Charlie and Don made two years ago. Perhaps more tiring than that, though, is the adamant debating. I appreciate that he's never rude about it, and that petty name-calling or insulting of tastes are never brought to the table, but holy shit – the guy cannot let stuff go. "Okay, I see why you feel that way, but..." "I get where you're coming from, however..." "Well, that's fine, but for me..." On everything. Ever. Don't start with that. This thread has been and can be more than just Caspian praise: contrasting opinions are fun, but please accept when it's time to stop beating a dead horse. "That's cool, I can respect where you're coming from." And change the subject or contribute something (preferably other than a Bandcamp link that's simply EITS with a bit of distortion). That's all I'm saying.

  25. It doesn't look like Discogs has it listed, however it would be worth adding it to the site and adding it to your want list. I've had success in the past doing this and shortly after having someone put a copy up for sale. You have enough info from that picture to put a listing up, if you're unfamiliar with this process send me a message, I'll help you out.

  27. Everyone else has echoed my sentiments so let's just understand we're all here for the same reason. We want to discuss the genre, but within reason. Put your thoughts out there & then move on. How about this? "Hey I think you guys should check out this band. They sound like _____ & _____. Good stuff." And if someone checks them out & shares their thoughts, great! If not, move on. When anything gets oversaturated, it's instant eye roll material. I worry about mentioning something 2-3 times, let alone THIRTEEN in a matter of a year. Also, we all feel bad about the shit you've gone through but I think we all agree we come here to escape real life bullshit. I'm sure a lot of people here have gone through some serious shit, but we're here to find common ground on some music. Using life's shittiness as an excuse to annoy literally everyone kind of sucks. It's like you're trying to give us a guilt trip. Just chill out & if that's not how you want to handle things, maybe there's another forum out there more suited for you. I know if people constantly told me I was annoying as fuck I'd tone it down. And if my ranting is annoying, let me know & I'll shut the hell up! But I miss how this thread used to be!

  32. Right. A million percent right. I hate post-rock that's long, drawn out, repetitive & goes nowhere. SAME THING WITH FORUM POSTING. Goddamit Gumbo, I know you like Malacoda. We all know you like Malacoda. Never mention it again. Even if you see it live. For the love of God. 13 different posts since February about Malacoda FYI, just in this thread. I just checked.

  38. Movie is a solid 7.5. It really suffers from that first section, but once it finally picks up, it goes places. Unfortunate that I didn't care about anyone really other than K2. Also can I say how that score pulled me out of the movie? I know Giacchino had no time to develop something good, but I can't help but feel like he should have stuck more with the Williams scores a bit more. When I'm liking the trailer music more than the actual score, that should be worrisome.

  39. I think "Disc 5" is actually "Disc 2" of the 2xCD deluxe set. Not sure if those tracks will make it into th vinyl version. If they do, i would guess it will be on a cd, but based on the last few releases of 90's Seattle vinyl I'm guessing it will NOT be included. Come to think of it, this really should only be on 3 sides with a cool etching on side 4 to look at as I spin disc 1, and then again as I put disc 2 away, right?

  42. Ian, I'd like to see my order that was placed on November 30, 2016 (Tom Petty box vol 2 and two My Morning Jacket records), or at least get some indication of when I'll receive it. I do understand that there is a backlog of customer service inquiries, but I've sent 2 e-mails and haven't heard anything back. I ordered some items for Christmas presents and would like to know if they'll be showing up before the holiday. *Edit - Ian contacted me via PM and got things sorted out right away. Thank you Ian!
