I'm cautiously optimistic about the Tool reissues. From the sounds of things they aren't well underway, and Adam Jones has been taking thoughts from lots of people at SHTV including myself and seems to be really noting the information/recommendations. Lots of recommendations for 5.1 which would be aces, but he's a vinyl fan and he's heard a lot of feedback on how to do vinyl properly so hopefully they'll be involved and ensure the remasters are treated with care and not just "180g audiophile whoo hooo yay" marketing BS. He has liked a lot of the posts supplying insightful information...I recommended using a mastering house that can cut and master in an all analogue chain and suggested: i) Bernie Grundman Mastering (either Bernie or Chris Bellman would be fine) ii) AcousTech / Cohearent Audio (Kevin Gray or Steve Hoffman with Kevin Gray) and iii) Sterling Sound (Ryan K. Smith who took over from George Marino and now masters in George's old room, Ryan was his protege) I would easily buy both AAA 2LP vinyl release for stereo and Blu-ray for 5.1 of any of the Tool albums...cost is no barrier when it comes to these works of art.

I'll fully admit that locking in an order within the few hours it was available, yesterday, felt pretty good. Especially seeing it sold out; it made me feel like I had made the right decision in time. I've wanted to own this album for a while now but never felt like paying $100+ for it on Discogs. Colored repress at less than half the price? I'm down. Muh rarity aside, everything about this PO is appealing to me. And considering how fast it sold out yesterday, I'm sure a lot of people missed the boat. Sure, I'd feel a bit more special if yesterday's alottment was violet and the remaining "mass" order was black. But I'm also pushing 30 and sort of over the special-snowflake mentality. An album I've wanted to own is no longer /1,000; considering the state of the world and everything happening right now, I think I can live with that. Maybe I'll snap a photo of the center label and make it the wallpaper on my phone.

Nobody is against people having access to the vinyl, but there is a correct way to go about doing an unlimited run, and this has not been it.

Whoa. It's almost like they're favoring the people who want to own and hear this over the people who want to own it for its scarcity.

If they really wanted to make this right they'd make the center labels on this new batch say "NOT AS GOOD"

Flipping: To buy and resell (a house, for example) in a short period of time for a profit. Nobody bought a CD. The product description was "very limited vinyl". This is a vinyl forum not a CD forum so some people aren't going to care about a CD. This is not the same situation as purposefully seeking out limited items with the intent to cash in on people who missed out.

I would have 100% waited, especially since the PO yesterday bit into another PO that I missed out on. Friggin' hobby and money and shit.

I'm gonna take the taoist approach with the CD and have no expectations, that way I cannot be disappointed There are times I want to sell things like these, I too could use an extra $300, but the times I have I've often regretted it later, once that money is gone. I can earn money other ways, I can't produce another collectible from one of my favorite bands in other ways.

a simple "initial run of 1000 copies, more may/will be pressed based on demand after that" would have sufficed. i could have budgeted the 80 bucks accordingly instead of spending it yesterday in fear of missing out.

Glad to have been here for this preorder after so many recent fails. I knew this one would go quick and I did not hesitate. I missed Thee Oh Sees and Gizzard, but I got Macintosh Plus and this one, so... aesthetic.

Fuckin A. My man! They deserve the best possible treatment. I've had my finger on the trigger for the Lateralus but I can't fathom buying pic discs. Don't know where or why they even bothered to "just" do pic discs anyway... Everyone one of their albums need a special treatment. Including Opiate and The Gaping Lotus Experience. And hopefully they don't pass Undertow. Just because they're already readily available doesn't mean they don't need attention...

Thanks for the nice feedback! Amazon caps the number of results and paginates them but one option I've thought about was doing a lazy load for more results rather than having pages.

i could burn one but i like having the real thing, i put a lot of sentimental value in that. I hate Mp3s other than convenience on the go but when i have access to physical formats, id rather play a reel big fish cd 10 times in a row than listen to mp3s. Only thing i hate about the bonus cd is that its in an enveloppe and not a case that will fit with the others and that i will have to be super careful so my cat cannot access the sleeve and destroys it.. but its not a real problem since i didnt even receive one.

New song is super good. Looking very forward to this record. I wonder if, since it seems we're gonna get a more conventional release strategy compared to SoI, there are going to be any unusual limited variants. Going by Discogs listings, the band and/or those they surround themselves with don't seem to historically be hip to this idea (at least for their official releases). Maybe they have their collective ears to the ground? Changing gears: I have to defend No Line On The Horizon. I think that "Get On Your Boots" being the first single colored people's perception of the record as a whole. The album as a whole is actually a relatively unusual and challenging listen from this band, for the most part, which I have high appreciation for personally. I do agree with dan_smee that this song-as well as "Stand Up Comedy" are B-sides at best, but I disagree that "I'll Go Crazy..." is disposable. It's a solid pop single that retains the more atmospheric and experimental qualities from the more out there tracks. This should have been the first single for people to base their impressions on. I always love when bands put their sound in a blender, so I respect things like "Unknown Caller", "FEZ-Being Born" and "White As Snow". And in addition to the songs dan_smee mentioned, "Magnificent" and "Breathe" are also noteworthy rock tracks. Top to bottom, I personally highly rate this record. I can do without "Get On Your Boots" and "Stand Up Comedy", but I don't necessarily feel they kill the flow of the album as a whole work. Its far from their worst album-that dubious honor goes to October.
