PO- The Nils 30th Anniversary Limited Edtion
TooManyHumans..... and one other reacted to Label Obscura for a topic
The Nils’ story has been described as a “Greek rock ‘n’ roll tragedy.” Forging a following in the mid ’80s with their melancholy punk-driven power-pop sound, the Montreal group became casualties of a record label deal gone bad, before spiralling into black holes of drug addiction and death. Despite languishing in legal limbo and quickly going out of print, The Nils’ 1987 debut album has become a Canadian cult classic, influencing members of Green Day, Hüsker Dü, Sloan, and Superchunk. Now, to celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary, Label Obscura is proud to reissue a deluxe remastered LP, available on 180 gram vinyl for the first time in decades. This edition of The Nils’ classic debut features new artwork from Yorodeo (the visual art collective of Dog Day’s Seth Smith), a gatefold jacket with archival photos, and liner notes by Jack Rabid, editor of New York’s influential music zine The Big Takeover. A series of live performances from the reformed Nils will follow throughout October. Pre-order here : https://labelobscura.bandcamp.com/album/the-nils-the-nils Listen here :2 points -

What Is An Audiophile?… And Quick Suggestion For Them
freedumb reacted to JammingWave for a topic
Hi guys! I would like to share with you my recent video where I say what is, with my own words an audiophile. I consider myself as an audiophile since I was 10-11 years old. I'll quickly tell you my journey since then. If you can't see the video, you can go to the actual page of my blog. I want to set clear that I'm not a music engineer. This is just me sharing what I feel with you guys. I would love to receive your feedback, and hopefully, you'll find my video helpful in some way. Keep those horns high Cheers1 point -

I've had some more free time than usual lately, so I've been binging monster movies: Exists (2014) The Reef (2009) Digging Up The Marrow (2014) Revenge Of The Creature (1955) Splinter (2008) The Monster (2016) Is there anything else similar I should be checking out?1 point -

OtherVagOption reacted to Derek™ for a topic
Anyone else really dig that Ocean Death EP? That first track is stupid infectious. Really enjoy that release, which I believe is the last thing he put out under the Baths moniker. New track is... okay. There are elements of it that I'm liking, but as a whole it's maybe a little too bright for what I was expecting. I loved the sampling and experimental / beat-driven approach on Cerulean. And I also really enjoy the moodier, darker pieces he constructs. This new song is neither. I get that it's a single, and also the first song on the album, but I just hope it's not indicative of the entire record's sound. Variant is cool, though. I'm pretty sure there's a line about blue and green right in the new track, too.1 point -

OtherVagOption reacted to aopps42 for a topic
That's extremely disappointing to hear they used such a low quality material for the box. At over $100, I don't see a reason to cheap out here on that. Charge an extra $5 if you need to, but that's super disappointing.1 point -
PO - Great Lake Swimmers box set LTD to 200
niblips reacted to Sidney Crosley for a topic
Interesting, but not overly cheap. The Dears box set, which was also limited, still appears to be in stock. I feel like at that price, the pressing amount seems appropriate - for big fans/completists only. Still, it looks like Paper Bag are working hard on reissues, and that's really cool. I feel like there's a lot of great Canadian music from the last 20 or so years that doesn't get reprinted/repressed, and it's nice to see them countering that. I'd be interested in picking up the first LP on its own, probably not the box set.1 point -
Man the audio quality on this video is far from audiophile quality...1 point

I was at that show too. The new songs sound awesome live. I really enjoyed the addition of the saxophone to the old songs as well. I am curious what Ted Leo's draw in other cities is like as there was not a great turnout in Detroit1 point

It's usually immediate but their referral system can get wonky. I'd check with the person who's link you used and see if they have theirs. If not, one of you contact info@ with both email addresses and they will usually just apply them.1 point

Question - cleaning old vinyl from a skip
Freki reacted to Metal Mike for a topic
True, there is some helpful here, but as a US English speaker, there's some honest funny here. I mean, OP might have to put his skip in the tip. He hasn't even considered a car boot or jumble sale. That being said, put anything that's water damaged or moldy in the tip. Keep any vinyl that's worth cleaning and worth keeping. Worst case scenario, you gotta put your skip in the tip. #skiptippin1 point -
Yeah, I had OG's of a lot of the originals but they all got stolen awhile back sadly so I am with you on reissues of anything solo or group as I have been slowly rebuilding it but there is a lot of great stuff that needs reissues. I got an invite to Eligh's record release so that should be coming before too long as well. When I unsubscribed from the hip hop add-on they told me I was put at the end of the line when I sign back up and I read on the boards they are going to have A LOT of spots for common and I am guessing the Living Legends wont get the same quantity so I don't know if any new signups are even going to be able to make the list. Anyone also know if they are going to make the add-on subscriptions separate from the ROTM after this month? I have zero interest in the st vincent record so im hoping they start.1 point

It's sounds fantastic. The book is a nice trip back 18 years. Reminds me of when I had a subscription to the NME and Q. Great album. Still holds up.1 point -
