  1. Got one of my biggest wants yesterday, I had to pay $75 plus shipping, but it was a white label audition copy of Irma Thomas "Wish Someone Would Care" LP in mono. The cover just has light wear and the audition stamp on the back and the LP is almost mint, can't believe it made it this long in this shape and some lucky bastard before me either the seller or a past owner found it at a thrift shop. On my second spin already, this is an incredible album and the sound quality on this copy is top notch. I'm a very happy collector today, I have been hunting this record for 8 years and lost ebay auctions for more than I paid for stock copies in the past

  2. Them Are Us Too was formed in the Bay Area by friends Kennedy Ashlyn and Cash Askew in 2012 after meeting at school. Fast friends with an appreciation for the same music and art, they recorded a demo and began performing intimate and memorable gigs on the west coast. They quickly gained a cult following as word spread about their youthful, innocent, and fresh take on the revered 80s dream pop and shoegaze sound, and Kennedy Ashlyn’s voice was immediately compared to Elizabeth Fraser, Kate Bush, and Harriet Wheeler – while Cash Askew’s washes of intricate guitar felt akin to Robin Guthrie, Ronny Moorings, or Kevin Shields. Their music felt familiar but new, nostalgic, and heartbreaking, with songs delivered simply and earnestly. They betrayed their age (both only 21 when they signed to DAIS) by releasing one of the most incredible debut albums of 2014, “Remain”. Tragically, Cash Askew passed away in the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland in December of 2016, sending a shockwave of loss through our community. While Kennedy Ashlyn would eventually emerge as a solo artist through her project SRSQ, there were unfinished Them Are Us Too recordings and demos that Kennedy and those close to Cash felt deserved be heard in her memory. Kennedy returned to the studio with producer Joshua Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv), Sunny Haire (Cash’s stepfather), Matia Somovich (INHALT), and Anya Dross (Cash’s girlfriend) to complete unfinished demos and sketches, write new compositions, and honor Cash Askew. The result is “AMENDS”: an album of tragic beauty and depth that tugs at emotions and inspires. In Kennedy’s own words: “Amends is a collection of songs that would have been the second Them Are Us Too record. This release is an amendment to our catalogue cut short; a final gift to our family, friends, and fans who have supported us for the past 5 years. “Amends” is a collaborative effort between TAUT and some of Cash’s dearest friends and family, culminating in a final “thank you” and “goodbye.” Nothing will ever compensate for the loss of Cash, but as we struggle to put together the pieces of what the world is now, what life is now, I hope this record can help to fill in the gaps. And give us some amount of peace.” Released on standard black vinyl, as well as limited edition clear (100 copies) and green (400 copies), compact disc and digital formats. https://www.daisrecords.com/collections/frontpage/products/them-are-us-too-amends-lp-cd

  3. I prefer my Beach House dark, gloomy and shoegazey. That one was just too polished and poppy for my taste. If they could make an entire record like Sparks I would be in heaven

  10. Yeah, it was that interview they did where they were talking about how they "completely reinvented themselves" on this record and hearing some synths and stuff on whatever single that was I was like, "ok, they're going in a little bit more electronic direction, this could be ok." Then...it was a Beach House record. Which is great! I love Beach House and have since Devotion came out. But...I donno.

  11. Yeah it sucks that he isn’t taking Paypal. I bet it sucks even more that you can’t buy it and flip it like you’re flipping the F-Zero release for $125 on Discogs. https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/11959887?ev=rb

  24. Even with the releases they own, SS/T&N have never done retail/mass pressings. But yeah, licensing is probably the biggest factor in this case.

  25. Oh for sure, but as I've said twice, to read that they said they were completely revamping/reimagining their style and to get just some refinement is still a disappointment. It's still solid, it's definitely Beach House, but I had certain expectations after reading that.

  27. It’s been such a long wait for a proper LP followup to YM&TV. Ordered without hesitation, and thoroughly stoked to hear it. Between this and Deafheaven, there is some July goodness coming courtesy of DW this summer.

  30. They don't market very well or do much of anything special. If this was identical yet had "Mondo Exclusive" slapped on it would have probably sold out. Because that's just the world we live in.

  34. They were great at Dunk. Johnny was having some amp troubles, but it was still great. The lights are SO intense there. I also liked how Phil would connect some of the songs with little jammy interludes. Caspian also has a new drummer; their old lighting tech has taken over for Joe, who has bowed out of the machine to focus on his family. The new guy seemed to handle everything pretty well; he was right on the money with the rhythm change in Fire Made Flesh. Seeing the Bern, Switzerland setlist hurts a little bit though after the fairly predictable Dunk setlist XD. Glad I finally got Waking Season, Sad Heart, and Castles though! Castles is an absolute beast live. That ending is so crushing. Really surprised they did absolutely nothing from Tertia though, although the Jo Quail sit-in on Rioseco was pretty cool!

  35. I gotta disagree here to an extent. The album to me, at least for Beach House standards, is a massive branch out. It's definitely still BH and has their signature sound, but I love that they just went wild in the studio with every track. You can really tell right from the first track that it's a sonically expanded experience, which is crazy given that they've always made lush soundscapes their trademark. Black Car best song for sure though! I also seriously dig Woo and Dark Spring... and Lemon Glow... L'Inconnue... The second half of Dive... Drunk In LA... Fuck, this album is really good. I guess I should grab me a copy of the loser, after a lot of back and forth I think yellow looks best. The insert and holofoil on the cover really sell it for me.

  38. Not vinyl related, but if you want a free wire tap for your home, eBay has a code for a free Google Home mini ($49). This in exchange for spending $150 with code PFREEMINI Oh, don't forget to add it to your cart first. Sold directly by Skynet, err Google.

Yo, I absolutely love the Buried Inside jam. Spoils Of Failure was also the shit. "Time As Commodity" is absolutely one of my benchmarks when it comes to "what do I mean when I say 'heavy' music?"

  46. There's so much great music that already exists it's so hard to have an interest in newer stuff like this. It's probably why I don't listen to a ton of modern music anymore. You can pick up a comp and hear Zambian afrobeat that sounds like nothing else and it is the freshest sound you've never known you needed.
