  1. Calling his landlord about him makes you come off like an actual insane person, dude. I'd have told you the same thing she said even if he still lived there so you didn't show up and murder him in the house I owned.

  2. Technically there is nothing wrong with Crosleys Actually that's not remotely true, as this isn't the same as getting the off-brand Cheerios rather than the real ones. Crosleys are built poorly and work antithetical to the basic properties of how music is played from vinyl, namely the lack of a counterweight. As a result, there is too much weight on the records, and runs the risk of ruining them with multiple plays. Collecting vinyl in itself is expensive, and on top of it, you need to think about the purpose of wanting to collect/play vinyl. Some folks like vinyl because it's a a physical specimen in an era where CDs no longer do the trick. But many folks here collect vinyl because with the right setup, vinyl sounds superior to CDs or digital music. However, to get there, it costs a lot of money. Unlike most pieces of technology these days (laptops, phones, music players, etc.), a turntable with most of the basic functions needed to not destroy records, plus provide adequate sound quality, will cost at least $200, if not much more than that. Where Crosley gets you is that they, as well as couple of other brands, have put together much cheaper parts to get to an attractive price point (namely, $100 or so). Again, if you're not thinking of keeping your records in pristine condition, and collecting vinyl is an opportunity to support bands, then the Crosley will do. Some folks won't admit it, but some of them started with Crosleys as well. It may also allow you to find some decent dollar bin records and expand your musical horizon. But if this is a hobby you feel you want to stick to, be on the look out at garage sales, Goodwills, etc. for vintage turntables. Google them as you find them to see where they stack up as far as quality. Read the beginner's guide in this forum. It's at least a start. Sorry for the long diatribe. I feel like it's easy to point out your naivete, but every now and then one of us should just give you a clear answer so you're not quite so lost...

I still fucking hate that work, cop, when describing buying something. I don't know why, but it bothers the fuck out of me.

  6. we will need to band together and hope our trust funds and low estate taxes help us keep the hobby alive. i don't even want to think about what the recession will do to the value of my vinyl portfolio.

  7. I'm a multi- multi- multi-millionaire and keep most of my money in cash, in a secret vault, which lies deep beneath my secluded compound, adjacent to my arsenal of advanced weaponry. I will always have enough money to buy all the records I want.

  13. As a Canadian, with our weak dollar, my buying habits have definitely changed. USPS rates have gone up as well. A $20 record in the States is over $40 in Canada now with shipping and foreign exchange. As few records are made in Canada, everything is imported. Distributors are paying 30% more, stores are then paying 30% more and ultimately the customer, with the same margins applied throughout. As the new prices roll out, I imagine there will be quite the sticker shock for a lot of people, and not many people are going to be able to continue to afford it. In Toronto the record store market is saturated and if the dollar stays around 65 to 70 cents for 3-5 years, I imagine a lot of them will have to close up shop. They all opened when the dollar was strong and records were back, people were loading up on all the stuff they missed. As new stuff comes out, it's going to be tough for them to maintain their sales levels. And when they close, I'm hoping I can pick up some things at their clearance sales.

  20. Logic shmogic No one can properly refute this because what everyone is actually trying to say is: "I'm upset because it won't sound EXACTLY like RoC. The band members evolved and I didn't."

  21. The pessimism is ridiculous. The reasons the 2012 or 13 shows didn't work, 1. Omar lost his mother. 2. There was some bad blood still 3. they did it for the money. They didn't even do a tour out of Texas, that's how failed that reunion was. No one asked them to do this, no one paid for this. Cedric and Omar had a fight but then reunited as newer version of Mars Volta as Antemasque and that sounded better than the last couple of Mars Volta albums. I feeling that they're renengerized, not forcing anything and having fun and that's why this album/tour will be fun.

  22. I completely forgot to post my second video until Lauren texted me earlier--here's the rest of my stuff! I know I said it in the video, but forgive me for being tired in the second half. Hopefully not to late to say thanks, so...thank you so much to all the people who were part of this, it means so much to me. Best Christmas ever.

  23. Well his Doug record sold out of multiple pressings as did the Nicktoons. So yeah, despite the 10 people in this threading hating it with a vengeance, ETR records often sell pretty good.

  27. People who don't realize they are "covers" that also don't put records on turntables will probably buy them. So for whatever reason, he couldn't get the licensing for the original songs, but he is able to use the artwork, logo, and even call the "tribute band" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

  30. Once the 2500-3000 run out, that's it for this pressing. They might decide to repress it down the road (on coloured vinyl or something) like they usually do. But once the 3000 copies sell it won't be readily available until they decide to repress.
