PO - Brand New - Science Fiction
tetsuodaironman and 4 others reacted to Derek™ for a topic
Lighten up friendo. The big draw with the CD right now is that - for the time being - it appears to be the hot commodity separating the majority of us from those who paid half a hundred bucks and got something more to show for it. That is the perception. Nobody wants to feel like they were left out – if I paid $50, you paid $50, and Joe-Shmoe paid $50, but Joe and I received additional content that you didn't, you wouldn't care at all? Point two: your first post implied that this is a dime-a-dozen CD. Which clearly isn't the case. They're each individually unique in some minor way, because they're each hand-assembled and numbered. Pretty cool for a band that's established a loyal, cultish following for the past 20 years and are (supposedly) on the verge of ending their run. Point three. Other people think that's pretty cool too, and are willing to pay $200-$400 for it. That alone makes it desirable to a lot of people, whether they plan to sell it or not.5 points -

If you don't end up getting a CD with this pre-order, you must obtain all possible variants to maintain a tier-3 ranking of Brand New fandom. Anything less than that and you can get the fuck out of this thread. $75 AUD is a drop in the bucket if you stop and really think about it.5 points -

I've easily spent more time lurking this thread then I have spent listening to the album. This is hands down the least ridiculous BN thread I've seen (so far).2 points -
I'm not 100% what you're getting at since there's a ton of shitposting in every Brand New thread – we're at 40 pages after just one week – but I feel like I usually end up nerding out with other users in legitimate discussions on releases we're passionate about. To the point where we're questioned whether or not we have lives, actually. I occasionally elaborate on my thoughts on albums, themselves, but it's typically only after I've digested some thorough listens – I'll probably share those in due time, in this thread, but I've only listened to the record 4-5 times at most so far. It's felt like a decade since I was able to sit down with a Brand New record and not know what was around every corner. There's something extra appealing about the "mystery" of the record before it truly unfurls and I'm able to identify every line from every song, you know? I'm trying to make that last as long as I can since we're almost guaranteed to never get that opportunity again, with this band. Regarding the art – I really like what we've been given, too. No qualms with it regardless of the origins. Maybe it sounds cheesy but I really like how it's a really nice balance of dark and night time, but still retains a lot of light and dashes of color. Representative of the album and the themes it balances, in my opinion.2 points

You could say that; more instrumental/acoustic. 1989 was awful and the attempt of taking a pop song and sprinkling in Kendrick Lamar doesn't work. Hot take: Speak Now is peak Tswift.2 points
-
Fuck yeah. Those deluxe, hardcover editions with expanded liner notes and additional bells, whistles, art, etc. are definitely my jam. Hoping that's exactly what the "Limited" edition is. A separate variant would be cool as well but it's not something that's 100% necessary.2 points

"Hi Eros, I am yet to confirm with the label. We were originally allocated 500 of the white LP. We have since been advised we will be getting another 300 more. Our total we will be selling is 800. Im assuming it will be limited to 1000 however we need to confirm with the label and it may take some time to get an answer. Thank you for your patience."2 points -

More than happy with indie version here. I'm by no means a Brand New fanboy though. Still don't dig Daisy and this album is still only good in my opinion. Someday I may grab Daisy just so I've got all of them, but that's way down the line.1 point -

Five Iron Frenzy Vinyl Reissues (SMLXL)
mmhmm reacted to Tyler_Durden for a topic
So awesome! Upbeats and Beatdowns was my first real taste of ska when I was a teenager. I borrowed it along with Value Pac's first album (which was my first taste of punk rock). Those two albums changed my life and opened up the floodgates to a world of music I didn't know existed. The only FIF album I've ever been able to find was their Miniature Golf Courses Of America Present Five Iron Frenzy 7" (Asian Man Records) years ago which has "Mama Mia", "Arnold and Willis and Mr Drummond", and "Handbook for the Sellout" on it. I think I may have gotten it from their fan club way back in the day. https://www.discogs.com/Five-Iron-Frenzy-Miniature-Golf-Courses-Of-America-Present-Five-Iron-Frenzy/release/5869881 point -
