From the beguiling refrain of the title track, to the soulful topsy-turvy of “No Big Deal,” cathartic chorus of long sought-after live favorite “Real Life,” anthemic swell of “The Weekend,” and angular shades of ‘Thrones,” A Fine Mess is a bracing and distinct addition to Interpol’s oeuvre. I just played this again the other day, and I'm gonna have to disagree and say I'm still a bit underwhelmed by it. Maybe that's not the right word though. It definitely has a much different vibe than PV; I suppose I was hoping too much for a carbon copy follow up to that album, and was a bit let down by it's more subtle nature. Lemme play this while I'm chillin on my porch with an ice cold beer this summer and I'll get back to you. :p

Echoing this. Love the band. Love this album. But even as someone who occasionally springs for reissues, variants, and deluxe editions that I don’t really need... I can’t justify this one. If there was more unreleased material, I could maybe be swayed. I will undoubtedly check out the live performance of the album, but realistically just once or twice at most. Really don’t feel compelled to use the funds or shelf space to physically own a copy of it. And demo versions are cool or whatever, but I’d be lying to myself if I said I’d ever reach for them over hearing the magic that they’ve fully realized in the studio version of the record. The presentation sounds great, and I’d love to get my hands on that hardcover art book. I think that if you don’t own already own copy of this record for whatever reason, and you have the wherewithal, this boxset would be a nice addition. As someone who’s becoming increasingly aware of shelf space and also content with a copy for a while now, I can’t talk myself into it. And for once I’m a little proud of myself since I seem to lack self-control with this band especially.

Basically the same boat. A, B, and D are flawless after careful inspection. (I went with the clear, too.) Already dropped Holy Roar a line... partly to see what can be done about a replacement, if at all, but mostly to plead that they stop shipping product like this. Tried to keep it extremely polite while also making it clear that it's a wide scale problem, and not just a finicky collector's gripe. I was part of their subscription service for a while and they were incredibly good / thoughtful / pleasant about answering any questions I had or fulfilling requests. Fingers crossed that their questionable shipping methods will quickly become a thing of the past.
