The Nils’ story has been described as a “Greek rock ‘n’ roll tragedy.” Forging a following in the mid ’80s with their melancholy punk-driven power-pop sound, the Montreal group became casualties of a record label deal gone bad, before spiralling into black holes of drug addiction and death. I'm sure it'll drum up some interest on eBay and serve as a symbol of flipper greed. I can't blame them for riding the wave until the inevitable crash, but I think I'll stick to more modestly priced releases.

It was confirmed with the band (Reddit) that the $45 release was the standard vinyl with the rushed CD in the mail beforehand. I made that up to create some mini heart attacks.

It doesn't even have a ribbon going down the middle to make grabbing the Lps themselves that much easier, either, given that they're sunk halfway into the box . You essentially have to tip the LPs out of the box and catch them with your other hand as they tumble out. I don't like junking box-set boxes but I've never found one as flimsy as this before. I mean, it's the only box-set box I have that isn't lacquered or otherwise treated with a water-resistant coating of some kind. Assuming they they stick to the pizza box format (the GLS box-set mock-up sure looks like they are), I think I'll only buy box-sets from this reissue sub-imprint when/if they go on sale. Maybe they'll invest in custom-sized, lacquered boxes if the feedback from fans is negative enough. I get the gimmick (it goes back to the aesthetics of The Paper Bag Princess where the label borrowed its name) but it comes at the expense of us who paid a lot and imagined at least half the cost going towards a sturdier box.

No reason to be using boxes like that. Such a cheap-out move. Very disappointing.

Jawbreaker was phenomenal. At The Drive-In was on fire on Saturday, too — way better than when I saw them earlier this year. My new discovery was the Regrettes — great 60s pop-meets-indie-punk stuff with good female harmonies. Built To Spill is nothing to look at, but my god, can Doug shred. So happy to have seen them play Keep It Like A Secret.

I would pay so much for the More of Our Stupid Noise compilation on vinyl...it was one of those CDs I bought when I was 13 because it had treble charger and Hayden on it, and grew to love so many of the songs on the comp, many of which I wouldn't revisit again until at least a decade later.

That's extremely disappointing to hear they used such a low quality material for the box. At over $100, I don't see a reason to cheap out here on that. Charge an extra $5 if you need to, but that's super disappointing.

True, there is some helpful here, but as a US English speaker, there's some honest funny here. I mean, OP might have to put his skip in the tip. He hasn't even considered a car boot or jumble sale. That being said, put anything that's water damaged or moldy in the tip. Keep any vinyl that's worth cleaning and worth keeping. Worst case scenario, you gotta put your skip in the tip. #skiptippin

Yeah, I had OG's of a lot of the originals but they all got stolen awhile back sadly so I am with you on reissues of anything solo or group as I have been slowly rebuilding it but there is a lot of great stuff that needs reissues. I got an invite to Eligh's record release so that should be coming before too long as well. When I unsubscribed from the hip hop add-on they told me I was put at the end of the line when I sign back up and I read on the boards they are going to have A LOT of spots for common and I am guessing the Living Legends wont get the same quantity so I don't know if any new signups are even going to be able to make the list. Anyone also know if they are going to make the add-on subscriptions separate from the ROTM after this month? I have zero interest in the st vincent record so im hoping they start.

Your best bet is to spend some money and get a video surveillance system. Set up multiple camera angles, like 6 or more cameras to catch everything they do. I think they even make wireless cameras so you can set one up along the street.

I honestly have no good suggestions. Unfortunately, if they think you're behind any thing that happens to them, they're dick-y enough it seems to retaliate. I would move. Nothing is more important than your family's safety and your sanity.

Just got my copy. As much as I wished this contained every b-side on vinyl or another disc of demos or a live album, this is a really great set. It's pressed well. Mastering is great. It's sounds fantastic. The book is a nice trip back 18 years. Reminds me of when I had a subscription to the NME and Q. Great album. Still holds up.

I'm not sure what these go for either. Since we're both clueless, we can call it a square deal and I'll just buy it for whatever a new CD is priced at in the U.K. these days. PM me your Paypal address and we'll get this show on the road.
