  1. Or, you could stop ordering records and then an hour later change your mind and cancel. They would be better off not having to deal with "customers" like yourself who can't commit to something they ordered less than an hour ago. The site is great. Create a feature that stops idiots like the one above from ordering so you can focus on more important things and you'll really have something great on your hands

  8. Hi all I'm Ian, from NYC and I run the programming for www.popmarket.com - scheduling Daily Deals, loading the store up with new records daily and am curious what you guys like/dislike about the site if you've ordered from us before? We're a small operation - used to be owned by Sony, recently spun off as an independent group of 8 people - and value any & all feedback. So, if you have any artists or specific records you want to see us put on the site, or any general questions/criticisms - would love to answer & chat! Thanks, Ian

  9. Same here. Aside from the D&D and Eggos, my local is trumpeting Black, Clear, and Smoke variants. Won't have mine until Friday, but I hope they are in there. I understand this line of thinking completely, but there are still so many reasons for folks to not rely on streaming services to have digital copies of the LPs we buy. For example, many of my LPs simply aren't on Spotify, etc. Some artists and labels just don't do business with some/any streaming services. Another reason is connectivity. I often vacation or hike and drive in areas with spotty/no/expensive signals; streaming just doesn't work for me there and, often, that's one of the places I want that music the most.

  10. Yeah, no sweat. It was a random idea I had, but if you'll be returning it, I wouldn't worry about it. The more I think about this post, the more I feel compelled to ask you why this album failed to meet your expectations. Not in dude, what's wrong with you? way (but really; what's wrong with you?) but in a genuine manner. It's fine that the album isn't your cup of tea, but I'd personally love to hear what doesn't do it for you, specifically. For me, this album is the cat's pajamas. It's the bee's knees; the kingpin's ball. It's fine that you don't agree with that or any of the following, but I personally love that Caspian showed us that they're anything but a one-trick pony. Waking Season suggested that, but D&D confirmed it. Aside from the most prominent use of vocals that we've heard from the band, they also veered away from the soaring, shiny, triumphant tremolo on earlier material. They've spent years showing us that they can capture the sound of hope with builds that are just as good as any under the post-rock umbrella; on Dust, though, I feel like they really flexed their songwriting muscles and showcased their ability to reach comparable heights but through other means. There's a sort of spacey somberness woven through the whole album – even in the interludes – and a lot of the moments that hit hard manage to do so in a fashion that is notably more grandiose and well-executed than the bulk of post-rock in recent years. I just recently revisited the album and I'm a little confused on why anyone wouldn't regard it as one of the strongest, most mature additions to their repertoire of incredible music. To each his own, of course, but I'd love to hear where you'd disagree.

  21. What you're saying is pretty hardcore/punk so I'll give you some props for that but it's not really helpful, relevant, or useful. Popmarket is downsizing from a corporate-owned company but they aren't downsizing all the way down to one angry dude in a bad place in his life who uses his record business as a means to exert control in a world that feels chaotic, unsafe, and non-respecting of him. Ian can correct me but they have to, at the very least, pretend to want to participate in society in a meaningful way that is mutually beneficial with the people they interact with; and, for better or worse, that means responding to emails and canceling orders on occasion.

  22. Thanks for your response, we hear you! We are currently working on some staffing challenges but have recently added some full time, dedicated customer service reps that will significantly expedite the response time for order inquiries. As for the cancellation policy, that goes hand in hand with the customer service staffing, we aim to reply to all inquiries within 24 hours (before an order would ship), so will definitely be able to assist quicker there should you need to cancel. Also, just to give some context behind the customer service issues - I am WELL aware of the issues and frankly a little embarrassed by some issues that we've heard from our customers, we really do value you shopping with us and are huge music nerds/fans like you guys as well, so we understand the importance of getting it right and hope you'll bear with us as we go through the growing pains of downsizing from a big corporation to a small, independent company. Thanks again, and I'll make sure the Out of Time 3LP gets to you on street date (I pre-ordered one myself, can't wait for that, package looks amazing). Best Ian

  23. To be honest I'm just going to head out to a local shop and pick it up. I figure it won't be hard to get my hands on. I cancelled my Amazon order a while back because I realized I was giving the retail giant TOO MUCH MONEY. Time to give back to the little guys

  24. That particular listing for the signed EMOTION LP was some sort of restock. I had already bought a regular LP from the site when there was no listing for an autographed copy and then one day I just randomly checked her store and saw the listing had changed to "Autographed." It sold out shortly thereafter but the listing hasn't changed for some reason. I wouldn't expect a restock, but who knows?

  27. I'll sort you out, man. This is exactly why it has moved up to my favorite album by them, and my favorite post rock album in general. It seriously is a masterpiece. Very well articulated as always. I think the whole backstory, the place and the mindset that they were in when writing it really amplifies it all. That dark edge, and heartbreak behind it really sets it apart, making for their strongest, most daring, and innovative work to date. They stepped it up with Dust and I love every single note. I prefer sad music, and this record fucking does it for me, but it's so versatile. I love listening it in my room late at night after a long day, running throw the woods while it's raining to clear my head, blasting it in my car. There really aren't too many moments where I could put on Dust and it not be appropriate. Plus I think it comes off as some of their best live material to date. As I've said before, I'd love a front to back Dust tour. Saw your IG post. Definitely a beauty. Second time is the charm for me, hopefully. Haha.

  28. Every since I completed my collection, it has made me more anxious to get anything new that comes out. Haha. If I don't get it right away I get scared I won't get it. But I ordered it. If I don't get it, I'm sure I'll get one some way or another.

  29. Her online store has a listing for autographed copies of Emotion on vinyl (https://www.carlyraemusic.com/store/e•mo•tion-standard-vinyl), but it's out of stock. When were those offered for sale? Would it be silly to assume that if signed Emotion Side B LPs are offered, there might be a restock of signed Emotion LPs as well? Since I have nothing new to offer with this post aside from a dumb question, here's a photo from the last time I saw her live:

  37. Nah, I'd probably gone to $30 for him. Still a solid deal, but I wouldn't feel like a piece of garbage. edit: nvm, I didn't know this was as inexpensive as it is. $10 is a fine offer in this situation. For how stoked you were to get it for $10 I thought it had to be a $100+ record in vg+

  38. Added some pics (sorry I'm not Jimmy Olsen or whoever) and additional info that I could: https://www.discogs.com/release/6288693 Hopefully it's good, I hate the "police" force over there. "It's not the right format..." "You didn't add this..." "blah blah blah blah blah". Really gets on my nerves when they say something needs to be edited and then expect you to do it. It's right there, you noticed, why can't you help "contribute"?

    Cleaning Your Records

A record brush typically is only good for removing surface dust and debris that is loose on the record. As a general rule it will NOT address more stubborn grit and contaminants that may be embedded in the grooves itself. For that you would want at minimum a good cleaning solution, a brush to scrub the record, pure rinse water, and some sort of cloth or vacuum to remove the contaminated water and rinse water. A good record cleaning machine is a critical tool for your records and probably the most overlooked part of the entire vinyl hobby by most people in my experience. Ultrasonic being the best, a vacuum based system being second best, and manual systems like a Spin Clean would be last on that list. Things like wood glue I consider extremely bad practice for countless reasons so I wouldn't even remotely consider that a safe option no matter what anyone decides to argue otherwise. If budget is an issue then get yourself something like a Spin Clean and you'll be good for a while. If you can afford it, I suggest something closer to a VPI 16.5 at minimum and if your budget really allows then something like the Audio Desk Systemme (ultrasonic cleaner) would be the best by far. Just remember something like this is essentially a piece of gear you'll keep with you as long as you own your record collection so it's absolutely a forward-thinking investment. Don't be afraid to spend some real money here because the benefits over the years will more than make up for the initial investment. I cannot emphasize this enough. All records benefit from cleaning including brand new/sealed records. Why? Even records from the factory contain contaminants from the pressing process itself. It's good practice to clean all your records before spinning them whether new or used. I also highly suggest keeping some spare inner sleeves, preferably anti-static and scratch free sleeves like Mobile Fidelity inner sleeves or other similar rice paper sleeves. Regular paper sleeves are chock full of debris and paper scrap that will just recontaminate your freshly cleaned record. Once a record is cleaned, it's relatively safe to re-use the sleeve if it was replaced though eventually you may want to replace it again just to ensure your sleeve is absolutely clean. As mentioned above there are several cleaning solutions that work well and also DIY solutions that are very affordable. Most of those are mixtures of pure water (distilled, de-ionized, etc.), some type of soap like Dawn, Kodak PhotoFlo which acts as a surfactant, and often pure alchohol (isopropanol NOT rubbing alcohol.) I weighed in on this only because I've worked closely with brands like VPI and their RCMs and am in the process of designing a new vacuum-based one for sale to the public at a lower price point as their 16.5 as well with added functionality and better design features. Hoping to have that done in the next month or two at most.
