  4. Actually, they know how to GOUGE..... as in, "APC is GOUGING their fanbase with a $125 box set of trinkets." They apparently don't know how to GAUGE.... as in, "APC didn't GAUGE how little interest there would be in a $125 box set." Sorry for the grammar police post. (Not to be confused with the ganja police.)

  5. So no one is going to address the octopus in the room, huh? – why is the cheapest base MSRP for this thing still $30? Because Maynard?

  6. I like to stick to non-gimmick records like Macintosh Plus releases that never ship, Hellraiser soundtracks that come in cubes three times as large as necessary and Frank Ocean records that are only available for 48 hour windows of time.

  7. Playing catch-up. Watched the entirety of American Vandal last night for the second time. Immediate favorite. I also second any DARK recommendations (and switching to subtitles). It might not be as good as some of the shows it is compared to, but it holds its own and has the most beautiful intro I've ever seen. I also keep hearing good things about Big Mouth, but I can't get past the first episode. Lastly, Hang the DJ warmed my cold dead heart more than San Junipero ever could.

  17. i can only assume this tour will come nowhere near where I live and will just never see Electric Wizard... also Weedeater announced a "God Luck and Good Speed" tour which is going to rule. Seeing Primitive Man and then Weedeater the following night is going to be a one two punch of ear loss.

  18. I saw them in Boston a few years back with Satan's Satyrs. They were great. But they have a reputation for being real hit or miss. Hopefully this is a more sober lineup.

  19. White Heat - The White Stripes Comprises a bunch of early recordings of otherwise unreleased material as well as a few demos of album songs. Found at one of my local record stores. https://www.discogs.com/White-Stripes-White-Heat/master/724945 My copy is on red wax. It sounds pitched upward slightly on a standard record player, but my turntable has pitch shift function. I just have to pitch it down a few cents and it sounds great for what it is. The "album art" is super bootleg though.

  27. https://megamart.subpop.com/releases/king_tuff/the_other Loser edition on Rainbow Marble The two songs that have been released so far a kinda blah Thomas self-produced the record and brought in Shawn Everett (War On Drugs, Alabama Shakes) to assist with the mixing process. No less hooky than previous records, the new songs ditch the goofy rock-and-roll bacchanalia narratives of earlier records in favor of expansive arrangements, a diversity of instrumentation, and lyrics that straddle the fence between painful ruminations and reconnecting with that part of yourself that feels childlike and creative and not corroded by cynicism. The record features contributions from Ty Segall (drums), Jenny Lewis (vocals), Greta Morgan (vocals), and Mikal Cronin (saxophone). Thomas views the entire experience of the record as a kind of psychic reset. “I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone. King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything.” The Other tracklisting: The Other Raindrop Blue Thru The Cracks Psycho Star Infinite Mile Birds of Paradise Circuits in the Sand Ultraviolet Neverending Sunshine No Man’s Land On top of all this good news, King Tuff has also announced a North American tour beginning May 3rd in San Diego. Cut Worms will open the shows, and all tickets go on sale this Friday, February 9th. Visit www.kingtuff.life for more updates. May 3 - San Diego, CA - The Casbah * May 4 - Phoenix, AZ - Valley Bar * May 5 - Santa Fe, NM - Meow Wolf * May 7 - Houston, TX - Rockefeller Hall * May 8 - Austin, TX - Barracuda (outside) * May 9 - Dallas, TX - Club Dada * May 11 - New Orleans, LA - One Eyed Jacks * May 12 - Atlanta, GA - The Earl * May 13 - Nashville TN - The Basement East * May 14 - Lexington, KY - The Burl * May 16 - Washington DC - Rock & Roll Hotel * May 18 - Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg * May 19 - Philadelphia, PA - First Unitarian Church * May 20 - Boston, MA - Brighton Music Hall * May 22 - Burlington, VT - Higher Ground * May 23 - Toronto, ON - Horseshoe Tavern * May 24 - Detroit, MI - El Club * May 25 - Chicago, IL - Lincoln Hall * May 26 - Minneapolis, MN - Turf Club * May 29 - Denver, CO - Globe Hall * May 30 - Salt Lake City, UT - Urban Lounge * June 1 - Seattle, WA - The Crocodile * June 2 - Vancouver, BC - Fortune Sound Club * June 3 - Portland, OR - Star Theater * June 5 - San Francisco, CA - The Independent * June 7 - Los Angeles, CA - Teragram Ballroom * * w/ Cut Worms

  28. Different reaction over here. Psycho Star is decent, but even with all the recent rock music aping '70s stuff, this might be the *most* blatant '70s sounding song I've heard this year. Down to the video as well. And I don't like The Other at all. I think some of the lyrics are awkward and delivered clumsily, and King Tuff just isn't someone I'm gonna go to for serious reflections on life. I feel like he's not playing to this strengths here. I get he was sick of the "King Tuff" persona though, so I'm glad he's found something he's passionate about.

  30. Good point. They have been top notch. I just saw a FB post from them saying a yellow eyes and another record arrived at their shop and went to look at the subscription and was like holy shit those were due in the fall. I just had not been paying attention to where they were in fullfillment of the subscription. It also looks like that forn record became tbd which is a bummer. They would be smart to do this. People would pay an extra upcharge to guarentee the rarest pressings. I know i would.

  31. you know, i have was dead & his other two sub pop albums and thought they were all pretty good. but i don't know if i want to add a fourth record by him, tho i'm sort of a little bit curious. loser sounds like it will look nice.

  32. Wish Profound Lore did a subscription. I buy most of their releases and miss out on a lot of the rarer pressings for some reason.

  33. Eh, I'm not too worried about it. I've had nothing, but good experiences with them thus far and I can't imagine they'll be dodgy at any point going forward. Might not show up on time, but it happens and they've been fairly on top of communicating any issues.

  35. I imagine opening a record store is less "this is easier than having a regular office job!" and more "this is hard work and failure that I would rather endure than an office job because I'm a very specific kind of person who can tolerate instability and being broke as long as it has to do with music/records!"

  39. I’m thinking about not ordering because the singles are boring, eMotiv was garbage, and I haven’t been impressed with Maynard’s output since the last APC record. I’ll listen to this one. Hopefully the singles make sense in context and it’s a good record. If it’s worth buying on vinyl, I’ll get whatever copy is around - hideous artwork or not.
